Crazy money spent by you or someone you know

I'm talking spending £10k on dinner for 2 or £30k on 3 bottles of wine (not investments just to drink) etc?

Anyone got any good stories of shocking amounts of money they (or people in their company) have spent? Houses and cars don't count.

I've only ever seen this on tv shows with one exception.

I don't think I'd ever have so much money I could drop £1,000 on a yoga mat etc

A dozen of them!

The hotel had zero soundproofing. Was supposed to be single storey suites and they were - but stacked on top of each other and I could hear the people below us boiling their kettle! Resort needed golf buggies to get around but they never turned up and we just didn’t like it. Called our travel agent and they moved us to the Banyan Tree - it was beautiful and we didn’t care about the extra cost. It actually cost us more than £5k as we had to pay the whole whack but our TA was great and got a refund from the other place once we were back to set off against the cost.

That was in reply to Hollowtalk btw. Don’t know how to quote!

I spent £300 on a pen and my wedding ring was about 2.5k. Other than that I’m not a big spender!

TheLazyDuchess · 18/04/2019 15:39

I have a suspicion my ex put about £3000 worth of coke up his nose over the space of a few months. While I was counting pennies to afford loo roll...

A taxi driver friend used to drive someone (who had been banned from driving) into work and back every other day. £100 a day when the return train journey cost under £10 and he lived right next to the station and worked a few streets away from the other city station.

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 18/04/2019 15:48

I accidentally bought myself a £200 veg knife, made the mistake of telling someone good at banter about it...have not heard the last of it since...

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 18/04/2019 15:48

I actually still prefer my £3.99 Lidl one.

Ohhellothereladyface · 18/04/2019 15:51

I spent £600 having my eyebrows microbladed only for the pigment not to take and as such I still have to visit the beauticians every few weeks to get them tinted and shaped like I did before.
I’m aware £600 isn’t millions but to me that was quite a lot to spend on my eyebrows, even more so for it not to work!!!

My boss had clients out a few years ago in a nice but not extortionate restaurant. The food was quite reasonable but he ordered a bottle of wine for €1400. Not sure who he was trying to impress.

EscapeTheCastle · 18/04/2019 16:18

My boss bought the largest Jo Malone Candle for the showroom seating area. £300.00 of nice whiffs.

@Sunshine1235 and @cheesenpickles

It's state funded education. Although do wizards pay taxes? I'd assume so.

MaMisled · 18/04/2019 16:32

ExDH and I have no issues with money/maintenance etc He's not a big earner at all but just showed me the receipt for a meal on a first meeting of a woman he met on a dating app. £218 ! She hasn't responded to his calls or messages since!

This was over 20 years ago so I hate to imagine what it would be in 2019 prices. My ex (and he was my ex at the time but we'd stayed good friends) spent £4,000 on dinner for 4 of us at Gordon Ramsay Royal Hospital Road. This was in the days when Gordon was a proper chef (and only had 2 restaurants) so he did the actual cooking and came out to talk to the guests that evening. It was the best meal I've ever had! I was given a 'ladies menu' (i.e. no prices) and it was years later that I found out from a mutual male friend (very close friend of my ex) that dinner was £1,000 each! It was an amazing experience.

VictoriaBun · 18/04/2019 18:11

Recently spent £800 on a coffee machine - it was crap so returned it and still using the nepresso.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 18/04/2019 18:14

I am honestly boggling at all of these! Shock

Who the fuck does Gordon Ramsay think he is? Fuck him.

Costacoffeeplease · 18/04/2019 18:16

MotherForkinShirtBalls no, sorry Smile

bibbitybobbityyhat · 18/04/2019 18:17

I went out for lunch at a well known London restaurant recently, for a friend's 50th birthday. There were 3 of us and we aren't big lunch time drinkers so ordered 1 bottle of house wine (£30.00) to share. Nice wine it was too.

On the next table was a man, his young son (child of about 7 or 8) and his mother. The son and mother had 2 bottles of pink champagne. The cheapest pink champagne on the menu was £89.00. I was shocked by that tbh but I obviously live a sheltered life!

supadupapupascupa · 18/04/2019 18:17

£950 on a bag. £2k on a stylist. But that's it. I'm pretty good with money otherwise. Don't shop much.

MT2017 · 18/04/2019 18:21

About £50 on a McDonalds for 5 people in an airport in Turkey.

We now always get stuff from the hotel to take on the return journey or find a supermarket!

MT2017 · 18/04/2019 18:22

(I know that wasn't silly money per se, but it was for a McDonalds Grin)

OooohAhhhhh · 18/04/2019 18:24

£25 on 2 bottles of water and 2 small packets of crisps at Geneva airport Shock

Guylian2019 · 18/04/2019 18:25

I once spent £500 for a hotel room for 1 night just for me!

$1000 for 3rd row seats for a concert for me and a friend.

I once spent £80 on resources for 1 lesson because I knew my class would love it.

zod1ac19 · 18/04/2019 18:25

MT2017 Dalaman by any chance?!
