Crazy money spent by you or someone you know

I'm talking spending £10k on dinner for 2 or £30k on 3 bottles of wine (not investments just to drink) etc?

Anyone got any good stories of shocking amounts of money they (or people in their company) have spent? Houses and cars don't count.

I've only ever seen this on tv shows with one exception.

I don't think I'd ever have so much money I could drop £1,000 on a yoga mat etc

£10k on invites. Wow!

The views from the Shard are amazing but you can get them for the price of a glass of wine of a pot of tea if you go to the hotel. Did you enjoy the pool though?

My DP knows someone who's just spent £85K on a Savoir bed. 😳

VelvetSpoon · 19/04/2019 20:32

The room was lovely, you got a complimentary Ipad to use during your stay and they bring you jasmine tea. Which was lovely but its still £500...also the bed was ridiculously big, too big in fact (we ended up sleeping about 5ft apart) and we went when it first opened at which point they'd not even finished the pool!

mooncuplanding · 19/04/2019 20:34

Knew someone who spent £80k on a treehouse and slept in it twice

norrismcwhirtersfridgemagnet · 19/04/2019 20:59

I was given a bottle of wine by a celebrity I was working for. Put half in a spaghetti bolognaise and drank the rest. Then found out it was a 1961 Chateau Latour worth £3K.

AlletrixLeStrange · 19/04/2019 21:02

Hogwarts is free, the ministry of magic cover education costs. Confirmed by JK Rowling. Spent £2 on a portion of about 15 chips at the beach yesterday. Livid.

TheInvestigator · 19/04/2019 21:04

Our summer holiday this year was £38000 for accommodation and £13000 for flights. No idea how much we're going to spend on food and activities when we're there.

ColdCottage · 19/04/2019 21:22

@norrismcwhirtersfridgemagnet OMG I would have cried. I'd have sold the wine if it were me.

@TheInvestigator where are you off too and how many people??

OP posts:
ooooohbetty · 19/04/2019 21:27

@TheInvestigator are there 35 of you going?

TheInvestigator · 19/04/2019 21:29

It's me and my 2 kids. We're going to Cambodia first, staying inside a wildlife reserve and then we're going to joali in the Maldives.

Smumzo · 19/04/2019 21:37

Before I had kids of my own and DSD was a toddler I used to spend thousands on designer dresses for her. She loved them. She loved shopping and was the most lovely child. I was seconded and paying zero rent for a fabulous house in London and making huge sums of money.

Studentnurse1981 · 19/04/2019 21:48

I spent 1500 on one pair of Louboutin boots . I love them and they will last a lifetime

Studentnurse1981 · 19/04/2019 21:50

Oh and dh bought be a vintage Louis Vuitton bag which was over 5 grand . It's beautiful and will be given to my daughter for her 18th

IndianaMoleWoman · 19/04/2019 22:00

DH’s boss spent £10k on a holiday...which turned out to be at Centre Parcs! It was peak season and their fanciest chalet apparently but I was still aghast. The distance we could travel for £10k!

lboogy · 19/04/2019 22:07

Bloody hell at some of these stories. I bought a small Burberry bag for 350 though that pales in comparison reading this thread

SammySamSam09 · 19/04/2019 22:08

My horse is proving to be quite costly. Expensive to buy & expensive to keep. I don't even want to add it all up or I'll have a heart attack Grin

Propertywoes · 19/04/2019 22:27

My neighbour spent over £1300 on a designer tracksuit. He's got a plain white designer t shirt that cost him £900. We are all just normal people!

ginswinger · 19/04/2019 22:52

I used to organise high end holidays for wealthy folk. The key is to think for them and to know what they will want at any time before they know they want it. The most anyone spent was almost £1m on a holiday.

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/04/2019 23:19

£500 on a drunken wild night at the Groucho Club with a friend. We went for “a quick drink after work”, had 5 bottles of Champagne and lots of cocktails, declared undying love for each other, snogged and I was poured into a taxi and 3.00 am when the club closed and he decided he was walking home (he never walks anywhere), got lost and ended up in a taxi at 6.00 am.

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 19/04/2019 23:38

This is obviously not the most I've ever spent but on holiday last year I spent £21 on 1 tube of pringles and a copy of Harper's bazaar. I just paid in local currency without thinking then realised how much it was in £ when I sat down to eat the pringles!

PH03b3 · 20/04/2019 07:04

£1100 honeymoon
£1200 hotel flights plus £1000 spending money for holiday for my last big birthday.
Quite a bit of money to me but memories that last a lifetime and the photos never fail to make me happy.
My £160 handbag most I've ever spent on a handbag and i love it i won't buy cheap ones now currently saving up for a nice (lower end) designer bag.

ColdCottage · 20/04/2019 12:28

@Smumzo what did you do with them all when she out grew them?

Pinkiii · 20/04/2019 12:35

No one I know personally but I work in a section of aviation that deals with private planes. One of the clients I looked after wanted to Charter a private flight on a friday to go pick up his dog from switzerland for the weekend ( and take it back on sunday) this would have cost around £45k i was gobsmacked Shock

ooooohbetty · 20/04/2019 12:41

I think I'm well flash now I buy handbags in the sale reduced to £50.
