Who is watching? Women's race at 2:15, men's race at 3:15
Go light blues Wink

Weather is set for light winds but rather wet.

disclaimer: normally I have zero interest in boat racing.

correction women's at 2:13, men's at 3:10.

I'll be watching but I'm rooting for the dark blues! Wink

Hope it's not wet enough to sink the boats!

ForalltheSaints · 07/04/2019 11:16

I don't watch it. Some of those are students 'reading rowing'- it should be undergraduates only, and no-one who has taken part in any Olympics or world championships.

I agree ForalltheSaints - it used to be worth watching, now it's count the celebrity / professional rower getting some practice in.

ScreamingValenta · 07/04/2019 11:41

I still think it's good fun!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:01

I'm still going to enjoy it and the women's race is just as good and interesting as the men's race.

Getting an extra insight this year as dd has friends who row.

Some of the lead up commentary is hilarious 'so what do you expect to happen to their hear rates?'

Watching it here supporting the light blues ! My mum came from Histon near Cambridge and studied nursing at Addenbrooks .
She died of cancer in 2011 but I still remember her listening to the boat race on the radio every year .
I’m also thinking making it an undergraduate only race might be a better idea

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:11

It's a bit like university challenge isn't it? means that youngsters have little chance. I guess though it does allow for people to start rowing from scratch at university and have time to develop their skills.

Also, seeing how much revision is needed at present if it were undergrads at this level they'd fail their end of year exams!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:13

They are off!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:18

Cambridge are well ahead.

Hammersmith bridge now.

Poor dark blues. Thank goodness they can't see how far back they are.

I'm watching - go the light blues!!!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/04/2019 14:27

I’m watching. Light blues. Feeling a bit sorry for the Oxford women but I’ve seen Cambridge in the same boat (see what I did there?😂)

I’m so pleased that the women now race from the same place. A long time coming!

ScreamingValenta · 07/04/2019 14:28

Am I the only one here cheering for Oxford? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:30

Oxford have pulled it back a bit.

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 07/04/2019 14:30

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:30

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/04/2019 14:32

Well done Cam women!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/04/2019 14:34

I wish it had been a closer race, but well done Cambridge!

OP posts:
ScreamingValenta · 07/04/2019 14:34

Awww. Sad

Great rowing from the light blues though.

All on the men later then to recover things for Oxford. No pressure, guys! Wink

Love the insightful commentary - 'you either win or you lose'. Thanks for that!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/04/2019 14:34

I must admit I don’t like a massive win, even when it’s Cambridge. I feel like both teams deserve to be in it till the last second.
