Face hair. In tears and pic included

I'm sick of shaving

I'm sick of being 28 years old and having to shave twice a day

I'm aching. I have to wear inches of makeup to cover my stubble

I'm all bumpy and rashy, and disgusting

Can someone please just recommend the best Philips Lumea? Will it work? I'm confused at the entire range and my head is sore from trying to work out which will be the strongest for my mess of a face, neck, chin and sideburns

Thank you SadBlush

If your PCOS is like mine, letting it grow a week or two should give you enough material for threading. Threading is far, far more effective for PCOS growth as it gets individual hairs at the root. Can you take some time off work to do this?

Yerroblemom1923 · 01/05/2019 15:06

Appreciate you can'tgrow it long enough to wax but what about plucking individual hairs out? It would last longer and weaken the hairs so not as stubbly and would stop the dark stubble. Just an idea...

Fluggers · 01/05/2019 15:21

@BowiesJumper emm..three although I kinda cheated a bit and did two a week apart

I'm also using the Vaniqa cream morning and night - lots of people said it didn't work for them, but I'm fairly sure it's working for me

I'm totally going to do another treatment this weekend (week after the last one). See if it helps! If it doesn't work in a few treatments, will also look into Vaniqa!

Thanks so much for posting this thread, it has really helped to read about others with a similar problem!

I used to be exactly like this and got the Philips Lumea hesitantly because honestly I tried everything and was scared of spending £270 on another 'thing'

BUT it WORKS! It recommends using every few weeks but I was impatient and used it daily to start with. Within a couple of weeks I hardly had anything coming through. Now I 'top up' every few weeks and it seems to keep it at bay. Any hair that does come through ( which isn't much) is not as thick or dark so it's not even noticeable.

Honestly, gave me such a confidence boost and feel fine about people looking close up at my face, not wearing as much make up etc.

Worth every penny

I have ended up funding my own treatment - electrolysis which is the only proven method to permanently remove hair

I have to disagree.

I paid so much money out for electrolysis (definitely over £10,000) over 20 years.

I got it down to needing electrolysis every 10 days as opposed to when I started 3 times per week.

I have nothing hormonally wrong with me

Wasn’t offered anything on the NHS but was referred to an endocrinologist who said it was in my dna. Like trying to change my eye colour.
Men can have electrolysis to remove facial hair because hormonally they are a man but this was more fundamental.

No amount of electrolysis will shift it.

I gave up years ago and now shave.

Nanalisa60 · 01/05/2019 16:39

I would make another appointment with another doctor at your surgery and tell the doctor how this is making you feel!! Don’t forget to lay it on thick!! Cry and demand some help!! As It affecting your mental health!!

Loopylou6 · 01/05/2019 16:40

Does anyone here with pcos have no periods for months, then spot daily for AGES?
Have you had your appointment yet op? X

Fluggers · 01/05/2019 18:14

I haven't had my hospital appointment yet, but my bloods indicate PCOS so being referred to a specialist

I've been eating keto and I'm down to 9st 11 so I'm happy with that

My face is still spiky..it'll probably take a long time for it to go, but I'm having tremendous results with the Lumea and Vaniqa

Figmentofimagination · 01/05/2019 18:18

I promise to update @Fluggers. I'm just trying to decide the best way to get rid of the random hairs that didn't get removed with waxing before I use my lumea. I usually pluck them but don't want to miss the odd one. I read in the troubleshooting about burning smell is not removing all the hairs.

Teddybear45 · 01/05/2019 18:18

Electrolysis / Lumea doesn’t slow down PCOS hair growth. Nothing except the pill / metformin (with weightloss and a low carb diet m) does. I’m guessing OP has already had those. You should just use the cheapest and most effective option - tweezing / threading is it. My local threader does my whole face every two-three weeks. I don’t get massive stubble in between.

64632K · 01/05/2019 18:23

Try threading whilst you save up for IPL or laser.

Fluggers · 01/05/2019 18:59

No @Teddybear45 I've had no medication from the doctor

But the combination of the Vaniqa and the Lumea is changing my face 🤷🏽‍♀️

Teddybear45 · 01/05/2019 19:09

I suppose it depends on how severe the PCOS is.

ARealAlien · 01/05/2019 21:08

Have NC again, but was on the thread earlier. Just wanted to say awesome news Fluggers. It's definitely working for me too.

@Teddybear45 I have endo & PCOS, to the point I needed IVF and have had one tube & ovary removed because of cysts bursting so it's pretty bad, and the lumea has changed my life.

ARealAlien · 01/05/2019 21:13

I also can't take the pill (bled constantly) and had a bad reaction to metformin so those weren't options for me. But the Lumea - 5 stars and then some. It's worth a try, you could use the 100 day return if it doesn't work for you.

Ohhellothereladyface · 01/05/2019 21:17

Have you tried Nair cream etc while you are waiting for permanent hair removal? It might make the hair grow back softer and be less abrasive to your skin. Hope you’re ok!

Teddybear45 · 01/05/2019 21:17

And there are people with severe PCOS who don’t get a single cyst. @ARealAlien. Women with irregular periods and high adrogens (which causes hairiness and male pattern baldness and spots) - lumea / electrolysis etc doesn’t work if your hairiness is caused by testosterone. It’s a waste of money. It’s why reputable dermatology centres often don’t even consider it for pcos suffers before their testosterone levels come down.

Eateneasterchocsalready · 01/05/2019 21:25

I find it utterly abhorrent that people who want sex changes are funded and yet us women with a condition that's like a sex change don't get anything!!!

ThreeFish · 01/05/2019 21:27

fucksake
I’m in NI too. There’s this place in Groomsport.
www.bloomfieldlaser.co.uk/laser-treatments.html

I’ve been there, though not for the same condition as you, the dr that I saw was lovely and took the time to really listen to my issue, and sorted it. Not too expensive. Worth a phone call in the morning?

Flowers
Fluggers · 01/05/2019 21:46

@ThreeFish it's me with a name change..

I emailed them, twice. No reply 🤷🏽‍♀️

People on the mainland have lots of options, sadly NI is severely lacking in so many areas for women

ThreeFish · 01/05/2019 23:11

Phone them then? Maybe it’s an incompetent receptionist. Admittedly I didn’t email as I wanted to be sure they would be in a position to help me and talk it through before I had to pay a consultancy fee.

jinglet · 02/05/2019 12:38

I have PCOS and hypothothyroidism (both can cause excess hair growth in areas you don't want and hair loss of the scalp 😭😭😭)- I tried laser for my excessive facial hair and it worked while I had regular sessions but then the hair came back with full force once I stopped. I was referred to both an gynaecologist and endocrinologist who had me take a cocktail of medications to regulate my hormones- it helped the facial hair but not the hair loss sadly. I then had to stop the medications due to pregnancy. Now that I've had the baby, I've got the beginnings of a beard growing but because I'm EBF, I can't take anything for it or go for laser. I tried Vaniqua- it can be hit and miss on most people and takes months to work. One of the side effects is acne though- so be warned. Good luck OP- you'll get there. X

ThunderStorms · 02/05/2019 12:44

Why don’t you self identify as a man.

Then go to the dr and say you need laser treatment to help you transition back to being a woman?

Sorry for being facetious, but I can’t stand the way distressed women are turned away from treatment that men can get easily (when they don’t need it or should be paying for it)

Good luck OP Flowers
