Face hair. In tears and pic included

I'm sick of shaving

I'm sick of being 28 years old and having to shave twice a day

I'm aching. I have to wear inches of makeup to cover my stubble

I'm all bumpy and rashy, and disgusting

Can someone please just recommend the best Philips Lumea? Will it work? I'm confused at the entire range and my head is sore from trying to work out which will be the strongest for my mess of a face, neck, chin and sideburns

Thank you SadBlush

There was a thread in Style and Beauty where people discussed the best Lumeas and how it helped them. Had some really positive stories. xx

FuckSakeFuckOffFelicia · 02/04/2019 15:20

I'm prepared to buy a Lumea today

If I put on concealer, Doublewear and No7 I can get through the day but just this weather and holiday soon is breaking my heart

The Vanquis cream apparently reduces the hair

I'm gonna make another appointment with a different GP

My period comes once every six/seven weeks and I'm putting on weight easily so I guess it probably is hormonal

I'm just gutted and I hate to sound like such a baby but today I'm bad Sad

Laser worked amazingly for me for about 3-4 years then another pregnancy seemed to muddle it up. It's still far better than it was when I first had it though. I find an epilator once a week keeps me OK

I suggest Groupon for heavily discounted rates for laser

I do have PCOS and having and while I struggled many women get pregnant just fine.

I was offered something like this but think I needed to be on birth control because it was considered high risk in pregnancy.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 02/04/2019 15:21

I hear you OP Flowers

The only thing that's putting me off is I've read that you can end up with the skin darkening and I'm not sure if that's preferable but I keep eyeing 'hair zapper things.'

First thing first- you have a rash which will need healing before you decide to do anything else. Is your razor sharp enough? Are you using soap/gel for sensitive skin? Try Sudocrem at night to clear up the rash. Also use a razor targeted for men- we get fobbed odd with inferior pink handled crappy things for twice the price Hmm

PrincessAndThePee · 02/04/2019 15:21

Op do you eat a high protein very low carbohydrate diet? This is usually recommended to be the best diet for suffers of PCOS.

ABC1234DEF · 02/04/2019 15:21

I have a MTF transgender friend who had electrolysis on her face incredibly successfully and was stubble free before even starting testosterone blockers. I don't think it was cheap but it didn't take many sessions before there was a big improvement and whichever option you decide, it sounds like it's definitely going to be an investment in your overall health and happiness.

Re: the GP, get a second opinion, see a different GP in the practice or even swap practices if you aren't happy. If you have a look on your practice website (or phone and ask) you may find that they have one with a special interest in women's health or endocrinology.

I hope you find a solution that works for you Flowers

PrincessAndThePee · 02/04/2019 15:23

If your heart is dark and skin pale (it looks like it is) it will probably work.

Grin at the OP having a dark heart! Harsh even by viper standards Wink

Tamarasnotmyname · 02/04/2019 15:23

Yep, get the lumea with the facial attachment and do it every 7-10 days shaving in between. I’m 2 months in and my tash, chin, armpits and bikini line are practically hair free. I’m going to start on my legs soon too. I’ve got pale skin and dark hair so it worked quite quickly for me. Definitely the best money I’ve ever spent.

LostInShoebiz · 02/04/2019 15:23

This is not a criticism of you in the slightest, more that I’m angry at your doctor. You need to get back there, dig your heels in and demand a second opinion/referral/anything. Too many health issues affecting women are just taken for granted. I have experience of this albeit not with a women’s health issue. My hip was reset badly after a break and I was told I just had to suck up the pain because being a woman involves lots of painful things.

You DO NOT have to put up with anything if a solution is out there and your lazy doctor should be working a hell of a lot harder on your behalf.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 02/04/2019 15:23

I'm too scared to try electrolysis but need to try something, as I'm fed up of being teased by DS that I could be in the Greatest Showman. Whilst it is quite funny the way he says it, it is a little depressing. I am fed up of shaving. My GP isn't interested either, despite having PCOS, I am not trying to conceive so it's not seen as worth treating.

CoraPirbright · 02/04/2019 15:26

I tried both IPL and laser on my bikini line (honestly was like a woolly mammoth!). The IPL did nothing - like shining a torch on it!! But the laser was amazing! Not cheap but 8 years later, still no hair apart from literally about 3 which I had zapped in a top up session. What you want is a proper clinic with a nurse not a beautician at a spa. I used Harley Medical Group and they often have sales. I would def look into it. Glad you are going back to the GP too - the first one was stupidly unsympathetic. Good luck.

Innernutshell · 02/04/2019 15:26

Mine was like this - started with my early menopause aged 40. I had to shave daily for years.

I tried laser more recently - I'm in my 50's now but a lot of my hairs are now grey so it didn't work so well and I've now resorted to electrolysis.

I also previously tried lumea but it didn't work on me.

Electrolysis is working although it's taken more than 30 treatments over the past 3 years. I think I might almost be there with most of it gone - although I still have lots of fine longish blonde hairs that come though - similar to peach fuzz ones that have always been there at the sides of my face. I'm not sure its actually possible to get rid of all of those too unless I want another load of electrolysis.

I didn't get sore shaving though and now wonder if I've have preferred just to continue with that. {always used Lidl's 3 blade razors}

Hard though Op.

ABC1234DEF · 02/04/2019 15:26

This is the only 'women's' razor I rate, but the green version for sensitive skin

^^ what she said

Ceci03 · 02/04/2019 15:29

try and take a loan and go private if gp wont help. or try a different gp first? you dont have to suffer like this. it's easily treated if you get the right treatment. a dermatologist might be a good first step. just pay the money if you can at all.

Innernutshell · 02/04/2019 15:32

I was prescribed Vaniqa but it did nothing.

Later when I returned to my GP they refused to do anything.

In a way I wish I had kept it all - I'd actually have a full and proper beard - if only I'd had the confidence to challenge perception about how someone should look - but I was always too ashamed. Blush

Vandree · 02/04/2019 15:33

I really feel for you OP, I am not hairy but I am 38 with horrible acne which can be painful and I could cry sometimes because I don't want to go out. I would urge you to see a different gp because it really does sound like PCOS and I am angry at your gp who said what they did because pcos isnt about fertility it affects all areas of your body and can really affect your life in other ways not just fertility. I was able to get pregnant easily on my 2nd, I still have pcos. I read that Metformin which can be prescribed for pcos can help reduce hair growth. The other posters have great tips on hair removal so I have no advice there but I just wanted to assure you you aren't alone and tell you to get a second opinion too. It might be worth asking for a referral to a gynae also.

FuckSakeFuckOffFelicia · 02/04/2019 15:35

I'm using a men's Gillette Fusion razor with fresh blades every few days

I guess I just have sensitive skin and let's face it..I shouldn't really be shaving there anyway Sad

I'm in NI so the best we have here is a Therapie or Skin clinic, I'm not sure of any with nurses/doctors

Everyone says wax or thread but I honestly couldn't grow it out

This is taking over my bloody life, I am just preoccupied with it

Most men do everyday. I think you probably need to just find a way that works for you. Have you tried Tend skin?

Onemorewonthurt · 02/04/2019 15:37

Definitely look on groupon pp suggested. I've bought 6 sessions of full arms and underarms for £39. I've had 4 so far and am really impressed with the difference. I'm going to my chin and upper lip next Smile

PrincessAndThePee · 02/04/2019 15:39

Yes, but PCOS sufferers or people with hormone conditions often have very sensitive skin.

Ohyesiam · 02/04/2019 15:42

Op, I’ve been there and I know how it feels . I got a groupon deal for IPL , it cost me £200 and it’s a complete life changer. It’s stronger than laser.

I’ve also got a Smoothskin gold which I chose after researching lumea etc , for my legs and bikini line. It’s ok , no where near as strong as IPL.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 02/04/2019 15:43

Also PCOS, also had kids without any problem. Also fat and hairy and sensitive skinned. Also pale and dark haired, also sought help here, also read about lumea.

It's brilliant. Honestly brilliant. Within three zaps the hair was finer and so much slower growing. I probably do it monthly now.

It's a miracle in a little lavender coloured bag.

Fannybaws52 · 02/04/2019 15:45

This is Hirsutism and is a dead giveaway for PCOS or other hormone disorder.

IPL won't work on this. They aren't normal facial hairs, they are like male beard hairs so plucking, waxing and creams aren't suitable.

Vaniqua or Episoft is the best place to start but you probably have high testosterone levels in your blood causing the androgen hairs. Look into lowering carbs and sugar in your diet and speak to a better GP about Dianette or Spiro which help fight back against the increase in testosterone.

Most laser hair removers won't do much. This type of hair needs electrolysis or a specialist laser treatment. Don't throw your money away on a Lumea or No No.
