I'm sick of shaving

I'm sick of being 28 years old and having to shave twice a day

I'm aching. I have to wear inches of makeup to cover my stubble

I'm all bumpy and rashy, and disgusting

Can someone please just recommend the best Philips Lumea? Will it work? I'm confused at the entire range and my head is sore from trying to work out which will be the strongest for my mess of a face, neck, chin and sideburns

Thank you SadBlush

I wouldn't recommend Vaniqa cream I was able to have it prescribed before and it didn't help. Good luck. I am 27 and have been struggling with the same issue for the last 10 years, because of my pcos. I hope you find a solution Flowers I have bought a lumea and I'm going to give that a try.

FuckSakeFuckOffFelicia
There is a thread in Style and Beauty at the moment called 'Phillips Lumea has Saved my Life"
Loads of information there too for you.

Tilikum · 06/04/2019 00:02

Your GP is terrible! So callous.

You've had lots of good advice about the Lumea and low carb diet, I really hope you find something that works for you.

In the meantime, King of Shaves shaving oil is supposed to be the kindest to skin, so maybe you could try that?

On my amazon app today (assuming it's the same for everyone, but I'm not 100%sure), there is a Deal of the Day of the Lumea Prestige IPL, on for £300 instead of £575. Not sure how much it normally is on amazon though, as I've not been looking lately, so it might not actually be that much of a special deal as Amazon things are usually cheaper anyway, but could be worth looking at (I bought one several years ago, around £300, but an older model I assume), and I've been fairly pleased with it for my face, but I don't do it often enough.

Girlsnightin · 06/04/2019 07:58

I can also recommend the Lumia. It got rid of my chin and electrolysis was very painful and did nothing.

Update:

New doctor has referred me for blood tests to check PCOS and thyroid

And prescribed Vaniqa

I'll reply properly soon - I have to drive to work now 🙂

Thank you so much to everyone

Especially the two posters who sent me a Lumea and some Vaniqa

You are angels and have moved me to tears

Palominoo · 09/04/2019 10:19

Great update op, love your navy nails.

Fazackerley · 09/04/2019 11:45

Aw! Good luck Op x

pisspawpatrol · 09/04/2019 11:49

Oh OP, been there, done that, got the t-shirt, scars and ever growing facial hair too.

I haven't read the whole thread (on the mobile app and it won't load properly) but your GP is talking bollocks about not having PCOS because you conceived.

PCOS is an endocrine disorder, not just a fertility issue and whilst it can make it difficult to conceive, I know plenty of women with PCOS who have children.

Symptoms of pcos that many women suffer are a specific type of ovarian cyst (it looks like a string of pearls on an ultrasound and is different to the other kind of ovarian cysts) excessive hair growth on face and body, irregular or lack of periods, acne, exhaustion, difficulty losing weight, ease in putting weight on, hormone irregularities and others. Not all women with PCOS have these symptoms or have them particularly badly.

Good resources: Verity UK charity; they have Facebook support groups and there is probably a local support group in your area. Endocrinologist is your best bet in terms of a specialist, but if you can't get referred there try to see a gynaecologist. If you're in or near the west Midlands, there is a new and specific PCOS clinic at Coventry hospital.

If you want to PM to chat about it you can, I'm an old hand at all this PCOS malarkey.

I'm so pleased for you OP :)

My Lumea arrived and I've done the first treatment so have my fingers tightly crossed it works for both of us and anyone else that does it.

GinaCarbonara · 09/04/2019 12:17

I have a Lumea, it's not the most recent model but it was the best one when I bought it 4 or 5 years ago and it's made such a difference to my facial hair. I hope it works for you.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/04/2019 12:21

I'm looking at the lumea now, very cheap on Amazon ...decisions ,decisions!

Selectioner · 09/04/2019 13:16

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen

I'd been looking at it on amazon for about 5 years, kept hovering over the buy button.

This thread made me finally click on it.

It was so easy to use. I have high hopes.

It spurred me on because I was reading the reviews and it said it works best on dark hair. I've got a few grey hairs in the last year or so (on my head, but I don't know if the grey will spread) and I thought it's now or never.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/04/2019 13:17

I have pale skin and black hair but my skin is REALLY sensitive,I'm worried it'll burn me! I can't ever have facials as my skin reacts so badly.

Thebatmother · 09/04/2019 13:28

DameDiazepam I have very dark brown hair and very pale, very sensitive skin but was absolutely fine with laser treatment. Even when I’d got up to the maximum setting my face was barely even pink afterwards and never felt sore. You’d not known anything had been done after each session in terms of appearance. This wasn’t with a Lumea though as it was a course at Skin.

Thebatmother · 09/04/2019 13:34

Really good luck Flug. So glad your GP took you seriously and that this is the beginning of better times. How amazing that posters sent you a Lumea and some Vaniqa. There are some vile trolls and goady fuckers on MN but this thread makes you realise there are still so many really good hearted and generally lovely posters too .

FlugIsAFlaskAndAMug · 09/04/2019 13:36

Hi again Blush

I used my new Lumea yesterday (thanks again to the lovely poster who sent me hers..)

Not sore at all, nor even red

I'm Casper the ghost with black stubble

I had it at 5..great flash and I'm so pleased

I'm also delighted with my new doctor - here in N.I. it's £90 to buy that Vaniqa cream. I didn't even ask for it; she offered it before I even mentioned it

I'm thinking of everyone who is suffering ❤️

FlugIsAFlaskAndAMug · 09/04/2019 13:38

@Thebatmother honestly - I offered both MNers money but neither would accept

Two of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me

I will be passing on the kindness, as soon as I get the opportunity

Selectioner · 09/04/2019 13:42

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen

I'm pale with dark hair. I also have sensitive skin and I found it fine.

It has a 100 day money back guarantee, so if you do react to it you can send it back and get a refund.

Chocolatepeanuts · 09/04/2019 13:43

Hi OP so delighted to hear somrone sent you a lumea how amazing. Im in NI, had ipl years ago for my lip, chin, throat amd sideburns. It worked well bit have recently went to a clinic in omagh for abotber 6 sessions of laser. They have the same machine as therapie, you sign up to a course but pay as you go so its a bit more affordable. I pay £75 a session for 6 sessions. PM me if youd like the name but hopefully you won't need it xxx

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/04/2019 13:51

I didn't know it has a money back guarantee, that's a game changer Grin

Is that regardless if where you buy it?

Gingernaut · 09/04/2019 13:56

I found Vaniqua very greasy.

For me, it made little difference to the hair and caused a mass of spots.

Good luck

Selectioner · 09/04/2019 13:59

No idea. Hang on I'll look in the box.

Thebatmother · 09/04/2019 14:02

Flug it’s rare you come across such kindness from complete strangers but it really gives you faith in humanity when you do . Fingers crossed for great results with the Lumea and Vaniqa and with the tests at GPs. Hope you feel less dismal and that you are on the road to getting this under control. I don’t even think of mine anymore and back when I was shaving and plucking for hours a day and had a permanent shadow and was so self conscious and miserable, I couldn’t think about much else. You’ll get there too I’m certain.
