I want a cat, but how do I make sure I get one that’s not an arsehole?

One that will be friendly and sit on my lap and purr, and not just hit my face at 5am for breakfast and then fuck off out until it gets hungry again?

Or are they all arseholes who let you pet them just often enough that you’ll keep feeding them?

I am a little weary of having my hands washed by sharp tongue Hmm

BlueSkiesLies · 01/04/2019 17:49

My cat isn’t an arsehole, he is lovely

He’s a BSH and so docile and fluffy yet playful and with an interesting personality

bebeboeuf · 01/04/2019 17:52

I was lucky and my first cat was not an arsehole.

Then I got cocky and decided to get another cat.
This one was an arsehole.

So 50/50 chance in my limited experience.

The arsehole has put me off tempting fate again, so I remain catless

Meet Rosie. She's a dog cat.
Eats anything. Loves affection. Hunts leaves as gifts

Cats do what they want, when they want.

I have 2 ragdolls who are lovely and like a smooth but defo not lap cats

WBWIFE · 01/04/2019 18:01

@missfliss wow love her!

gamerwidow · 01/04/2019 18:05

Definitely go for an older rescue cat. The shelter will have a good idea of their personality and whether they are independent or like a cuddle.
I have a both an idiot arsehole cat and an idiot cuddly cat Smile

@OldGrinch I second the Burmese option. Here are ours in their usual morning position. Love them.

PohtaytoPotahto · 01/04/2019 18:46

Get a ragdoll.

NotMeNoNo · 01/04/2019 18:51

Burmese if kittens. Or rehome older cat. Reading the OP I could hear my cat saying "I want a new owner. How do I get one that's not an arse?" his definition being very different.

I think my cat is BigStripey's long lost brother.

chilledteacher · 01/04/2019 18:51

My cat has just dragged the remains of a rabbit through the house all over the freshly mopped floors to find me to show me. Definite Arsehole.

Smotheroffive · 01/04/2019 18:57

little0miss0mac oh my god that has to be the most cute kitties adoration pic I have seen in a long time.

How cute beyond cute. Two of them lined up! Squeeeeee!

little0miss0mac · 01/04/2019 19:43

@Smotheroffive Bertie, the chocolate one, always gets closest. Just as well, as George, the grey one, likes to nibble noses when he's feeling particularly loving which is a bit of a shocker if you're asleep. 😃

Smotheroffive · 01/04/2019 19:52

The noise level went up in our house considerably when I showed your pic! Is also including pleading noises ....Confused

Smotheroffive · 01/04/2019 19:53

...but Bertie has his paw on your face...ahhh...aww...

OldGrinch · 01/04/2019 19:53

@little0miss0mac your cats are gorgeous! I love Burmese too they have the best personalities. Heres my Stuart the velcro cat!

BlueSkiesLies · 01/04/2019 20:04

@missfliss that’s so cute! What breed?

My BSH brings in leaves to me too!

fblake · 01/04/2019 20:13

I'd get an older rescue cat. Kittens are little psychos in cute tiny furry bodies who plot their owners doom!

OVienna · 01/04/2019 20:44

My cat is a dreamboat! Get a rescue Persian!

Mwnci123 · 01/04/2019 21:29

I had the loveliest cat as a child, but we found him as a kitten by the road. He is one of two cuddly ginger toms I've known, so I have this idea that they are the best ones.

Vinorosso74 · 01/04/2019 21:44

Just a thought after being at CP today. Some of the soppiest cats I've met are the beaten up looking ex strays. They look tough with all their scars but they are generally so friendly. I do wonder if that continues once they're settled in their new homes but they do seem genuinely happy to have attention and regular meals.

ScarletBitch · 01/04/2019 22:02

Yes cats rule the roost, your their servants lol! 😂

missfliss · 02/04/2019 06:22

@BlueSkiesLies - she is a poppet. She's a British shorthair ❤️

YesQueen · 02/04/2019 08:53

@Vinorosso74 definitely that applies to Ollie!

MrsCatE · 02/04/2019 09:11

My cat's a huge, bitey arsehole. He lurvvves MrCat and as experienced by a pp, he's waiting for me to die so can have DH to himself.

Just one example of his arse behaviour: If I laugh, he will make his way over to me in a purposeful manner and bite whichever part of me he can reach before slowly retreating (secure in the knowledge I won't retaliate). I just cry because he hates me and I I lurvve him. Bastard.
