Things you find oddly comforting

Thought this would be an interesting thread. Things you find comforting but you don't know why. For me it's thinking about the 90s and looking back on all the fads, music, fashion of that era (pokemon, Spice Girls etc). Makes me feel really calm and happy. This can also go the opposite way and depending on my mood, it can also make me feel a sad longing for the past! So weird and I have no idea why I have such strong emotions linked to this particular decade! I also find the sound of the tumble dryer soothing and have been know to watch the laundry spinning round in the washer Blush

Comfort food is good too. Jacket potatoes, beans and cheese x

ILoveMaxiBondi · 24/03/2019 00:39

Plucking my eyebrows. If I’m stressed or irritable I take myself off for a wee brow tidy up and instantly feel better. I think it’s the “order being restored” element that does it.

Also like you, nostalgia from my teens/childhood. Music and tv shows. Friends/Dawson’s creek that sort of thing.

Falling asleep to the crime podcast 'casefile'. Aussie podcaster with such a soothing voice delivering horrific details of crimes. Comforting!

Roscommonet · 24/03/2019 00:42

The shipping forecast

IAmRubbishAtDIY · 24/03/2019 00:43

Rain
Cats purring
Photos of hot drinks with steam rising

SurgeHopper · 24/03/2019 00:43

Day dreaming. Usually about romantic situations. I find it very soothing.

I find cooking very comforting.

When I think about the 90's ( when I was a teen) I just remember feeling frustrated and in the wrong place really.

IAmRubbishAtDIY · 24/03/2019 00:43

The shipping forecast

Ooohhhhh! Yes.

SurgeHopper · 24/03/2019 00:44

The shipping forecast
^

Yessss indeed

A while ago there was a whole thread about this, it was great.

Stroller15 · 24/03/2019 00:45

When it's late at night and everything is quiet, I find it comforting to see an airplane in the sky to think someone else is awake. Silly I know, but I've had this as a kid already!

Redshoeblueshoe · 24/03/2019 00:46

I have got to agree with shipping forecast

JaneJeffer · 24/03/2019 00:49

Listening to Gregorian chants.

LilQueenie · 24/03/2019 00:50

I'm the same with the 80's

ILoveMaxiBondi · 24/03/2019 00:51

I’ve never heard a shipping forecast in my life! I must make a point of listening to it some of these days.

Listening to Gregorian chants.

What’s one of those when theyre at home? Confused

HappybutsometimesGrouchy · 24/03/2019 00:53

Biting/chewing my baby finger . Have done it for years and years , mainly when I’m sleepy or concentrating . God knows why but it is a wonderful feeling .

Hearing cars at night and wondering where they’re travelling too .

Being up really early and hearing neighbours moving around , car engines starting . Frosty morning when you hear them trying to clear the windscreen even better .

The smell of my auntys house - always smells of fresh flowers , cooking , and a posh sort of scent everywhere . Think it’s a mix of diffusers and candles and v expensive firtniture.

And er, sucking on a facecloth or sponge Blush, have done so for years now - no clue why .

Stroller- I do the exact same thing with cars! When I'm lying awake at night (as I often do) I always listen out for cars so I know there's somebody who's up and about.

Have also never heard of a shipping forecast!

Fear- the chewing finger thing is interesting. I love squishing my nose with my index finger and moving it about, hearing and feeling the cartilage 'click'!

The same wee elderly couple walk past my office window a few times each week - I can tell sometimes they've been to a few of the charity shops on the road from the items peeping out of their carrier bags - I love picturing them arriving back at home going through their various 'finds' over a nice cup of tea!

I don't even know these people but it makes me feel all happy when I see themGrin

HappybutsometimesGrouchy · 24/03/2019 01:09

Hello- aww, that's so nice!

Clean bed and clean pjs

ILoveMaxiBondi · 24/03/2019 01:10

Ahh yes I’ve heard that chanting before, I just never knew that’s what it was called! I find it a bit spooky.

YesQueen · 24/03/2019 01:17

Rain, especially when it's early, you can hear it on the windows and you're tucked up in bed and don't have to get up

The smell of my horses nose

Feather and down bath stuff. I can't stop sniffing it Blush and ended up getting the diffuser

Heated eye masks (I get Korean ones off eBay) especially when your eyes are dry/sore

Routine things that always happen and are comforting because they're routine (weird I know! - buying the first British strawberries, drinking the first Starbucks eggnog, that kind of stuff
