Do you iron?

We don’t do any ironing except for the odd formal item. I probably haven’t used my iron for 6 months.

My DM is very shocked by this.

Do you iron & what age bracket are you? I’m in my 30s

Only if it’s linen. DHs shirts are done by the cleaner. Life is WAY too short for ironing. Last time DC saw the ironing board they asked if it was a type of see-saw!

GrumpyOldMare · 16/03/2019 09:07

I even do teatowels

Glad I'm not the only one!

Herefortheduration · 16/03/2019 09:17

DH, 47 irons for himself and occasionally for DD when she wants something done. I am 51 and needed to iron a top a couple of weeks ago, I had to ask dh were he kept the iron since we had our kitchen done in April last year. (The spare bedroom, in case you care) so obviously I don't iron at all really, lol

Herefortheduration · 16/03/2019 09:18

My mother, 75 irons everything, even knickers and socks!

Fluffyears · 16/03/2019 09:58

Nah I have better tings to do. If so ethibgnpoons really creased I will do it, if we have something formal like an interview i’ll do it but other than that I really can’t see the point as most things look ok with washing. I’m 40 and my underwear ironing grandmother would turn in her grave is she knew!

elephantoverthehill · 16/03/2019 10:20

Yes I agree ethibgnpoons do really need ironing. Grin

Stormwhale · 16/03/2019 10:41

Late 20s. I only iron dds school stuff, and anything that doesn't look presentable when dried. Usually a shake and put over the airer is perfectly adequate, and most things from the tumble drier are fine without. I can't stand up for long so it just wouldn't be workable to iron everything we own.

Pinkbells · 16/03/2019 10:52

40s. My husband does the ironing :-) I used to put absolutely everything in a pile from the line/tumble drier into a basket then iron the lot, but I've got a lot more savvy about it as I was sick of having a basket of stuff 'waiting to be ironed'. Now we have a laundry room which is easier, it's toasty warm in there so we've put a couple of wall mounted airers up, with hangers on. We dry T shirts and jeans on the airers, so they can just be folded and put away, then anything else is tumble or line dried and folded if possible. The only thing that gets ironed now is formal cotton shirts, duvet covers and things like that.

Pinkbells · 16/03/2019 10:52

Haha, I never iron my ethibgnpoons Grin Grin

MrsJBaptiste · 16/03/2019 11:02

Who has time to iron?
Ironing takes so much time
I'm too busy to iron

Yet some people probably spend hours on here each day.

It's a badge of honour on MN to not own an iron or for some children not to know what an iron is (LOL, oh so funny...)

FWIW I iron most things. Even when things come out of the tumble drier they need going over. I can't stand wearing creased clothes, it looks so scruffy.

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 16/03/2019 11:18

Spending hours on here every day = entertaining

Spending hours ironing = pointless, soul- and planet-destroying waste of energy

See the difference?

NorthernRunner · 16/03/2019 11:28

No I buy clothes that don’t require an iron 😂 and if anything does need ironing my husband does it. He is in charge of the ironing and the sewing and I do the cooking and laundry 😊

greenpop21 · 16/03/2019 11:31

Yes, I'm in my 40s. Only creased items though. I've just ironed some T-shirts. I don't iron bedding to tea towels like my mum did-but she loved ironing and even ironed my Dad's pants !!

tomhazard · 16/03/2019 11:32

Nope. Only for formal items needed for interview or similar. Everything else gets a good shake

tomhazard · 16/03/2019 11:33

Oh I'm early thirties

userxx · 16/03/2019 11:33

I have an ironing board and an iron in my house in case visitors want to use it. I just use fuck loads of fabric conditioner so the creases fall out. Life's too short.

greenpop21 · 16/03/2019 11:35

Makes me laugh when people say life is too short to iron, clean etc I have to disagree. Ironing takes very little time and I manage to go to work full=time every day. I like wearing clean, crease-free clothes and having a cleanish house, I also like living and enjoying my life so the two are not mutually exclusive.

LegoCake · 16/03/2019 11:40
  1. Don't own an iron! Blush
Oliversmumsarmy · 16/03/2019 11:48

greenpop21 it sounds like you are on your own and only iron your clothes.

There is someone upthread who irons for 5 or 6 hours every Sunday.

TapasForTwo · 16/03/2019 11:52

I don't find life too short to iron greenpop. I simply dislike wearing wrinkled clothes. I probably have more of the type of clothes that require ironing anyway. OH does his own ironing. I just fold DD's T-shirts and jeans as she doesn't care if clothes are ironed or not. So my ironing is minimal.

All of my friends iron or have it done for them BTW.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers!

grafittiartist · 16/03/2019 12:09

Love ironing! Just get something nice to watch on telly and get left in peace. A treat!

greenpop21 · 16/03/2019 12:12

Tapas you've misread my post=I iron.

I have a family of 4. DH irons most of his shorts for work, I do everything else though DD18 does some of hers.

greenpop21 · 16/03/2019 12:13

shirts not shorts

TapasForTwo · 16/03/2019 12:51

Sorry @greenpop21, I was agreeing with you Grin

My life isn't so crammed full that I don't have an hour a week to do some ironing.
