Do you iron?

We don’t do any ironing except for the odd formal item. I probably haven’t used my iron for 6 months.

My DM is very shocked by this.

Do you iron & what age bracket are you? I’m in my 30s

I am OMG Shock by this. I must be insane.

I iron pretty much everything. All bed-linen, DH's shirts, polo's, trousers, DD's shirts, jeans t-shirts etc. My shirts, dresses, blouses, jeans, skirts.

Quite a lot doesn't go in the tumble drier, and even if it does, ie: bed-linen it comes out rumpled. Anything that is dried outside or on the rack drier, is a bit crisp, so an iron softens it up.

Perhaps it is because most of it is 100% cotton?? Or maybe I am just old Wink.

PhilomenaButterfly · 15/03/2019 17:07

I'm 51 and don't own an iron.

sanityisamyth · 15/03/2019 17:09

Yes. All of my DS's clothes are ironed, even his PJs. My work clothes are ironed too. I like feeling like I've made a bit of an effort.

PlainVanilla · 15/03/2019 17:10

Of course. I have always ironed and used to do the family ironing when I was younger, more often than not. Started around age 12, now 60.
Over the years I have discovered that using a tumble dryer massively cuts down on the effort required and, if you are really clever, in winter you catch the load just before the end and fold things like trousers neatly over a radiator to "air" there is no need for additional ironing.
However, if in doubt, iron. It is not difficult and makes a massive difference.

Notso · 15/03/2019 17:13

I'm 38 and iron pretty much everything. We don't have a tumble dryer, although I still ironed when we had one but maybe a bit less.

HeathRobinson · 15/03/2019 18:47

@cushioncuddle - I don't leave things to sit in the washing machine and I give them a couple of shakes before putting them on the airer. Or the line, when I can. It works very well for the 'soft' sort of clothing I wear - t-shirts, sweatshirts etc, even jeans.

I only tumble dry towels, bedclothes and knickers.

Pimmsypimms · 15/03/2019 18:55

We're 41, Dh irons the school shirts on a Sunday night and sometimes a few shirts for himself, I don't really have anything I need ironing in winter, I do tend to iron more in summer though.

Silversun83 · 15/03/2019 20:36

Nope. I used to 'help' my mum iron when I was little but not since then! I don't know why, as my mum pretty much ironed everything, that I didn't consider it to be necessary. My DH irons his work shirts, but that's the only reason we own an iron! I guess we'll be ironing the DCs' uniforms when they get to school age though.

Silversun83 · 15/03/2019 20:36

Oh and we're mid-30s.

wonkylegs · 15/03/2019 20:39

As little as possible - DHs work shirts, the odd bit of linen or silk clothing and the posh table cloth. Everything else gets folded from the tumble dryer and that's good enough.

ethelredonagoodday · 15/03/2019 20:40

Not if I can avoid it. Tumble and shake out.

ethelredonagoodday · 15/03/2019 20:40

And I'm 40.

isntthatalwaystheway · 15/03/2019 20:42

Yes, I iron everything! Even down to our smalls Smile When DC Naps I do a little pile few times in the Week - really enjoy it actually! Did I actually just say that!

isntthatalwaystheway · 15/03/2019 20:43

Oh i'm early 30's..

Jsmith99 · 15/03/2019 20:43

I seldom iron anything. DP irons his work shirts because he’s a fussy bugger and he doesn’t trust me to do it properly, to his standards. He’s quite right about that.

recklessgran · 15/03/2019 21:22

I'm 63 and only iron DH's shirts, nothing else. Use tumble drier as never been a willing house slave.

LeadMeToTheChocolate · 15/03/2019 21:26

We have an iron!
Couldn’t tell you where it’s kept though!
Creases (or odd socks) won’t kill you.
I just smooth on a hanger when wet and hang off a curtain rail, anything that looks like a ‘proper grown up’ would need to iron. Dries in a few hours and usually creases drop out.
Who ha storm for ironing?! I’d rather nap!

LeadMeToTheChocolate · 15/03/2019 21:27

Nanalisa60 · 15/03/2019 21:37

Work shirts
Pillowcases and duvet cover

Seem to do more ironing in the summer as wear more cotton clothing, in winter put clothing on radiators after been on washing line to air that seens to take creases out.

Don’t mind ironing as I watch tv at the same time

I’m 58

Meowandthen · 15/03/2019 21:43

Quite honestly I don’t give a shirt if other people iron but if not, it’s your choice to have creased clothes. That said, it is joyless so I pay someone to do it. I work too many hours to bore myself ironing.

Do it if you want but why the interest in whether others do or not? It’s so irrelevant.

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 15/03/2019 21:55

Age 45 I only iron items not been in the tumble dryer and DS2 school shirts. I detest ironing, my mum irons everything

YouBumder · 15/03/2019 22:03

Very little unless I have to, I am in my mid 40s. I don’t iron school uniforms either if they are tumble dried they don’t need it. My mother thinks this is “terrible” and particularly “terrible” that I don’t do any of my husband’s laundry at all. Yes I do work just as much as he does.

Urser10000000 · 15/03/2019 22:52

Yes even bedding

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 15/03/2019 22:58

No which is a complete sentence Grin
I last ironed in 1989, it is a filthy habit, and should be stamped out!

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 15/03/2019 22:59

And I am 48 and a half, and do not own an iron Grin
