Do you iron?

We don’t do any ironing except for the odd formal item. I probably haven’t used my iron for 6 months.

My DM is very shocked by this.

Do you iron & what age bracket are you? I’m in my 30s

School shirts, occasional work shirts. I'm 45.

My mum had a (bottomless) ironing basket and spent all of Sunday evenings ironing. Put me off big time! (My Nana ironed everything including socks!).

TapasForTwo · 15/03/2019 23:28

Like another poster, I find ironing quite therapeutic and satisfying. I don't have a lot to do, and watch something interesting while doing it. If the clothes have been line dried the smell is wonderful as well.

I do own some clothes that would look terribly scruffy if they weren't ironed.

Jenniferyellowcat · 15/03/2019 23:33

No, never!

FurrySlipperBoots · 16/03/2019 01:51

I'm 30 and I iron everything except socks and underwear (except cotton knickers, will do them unless I'm desperately running out and too tired to be bothered). It's a very annoying habit I've picked up from my mum. I even do teatowels!

kateandme · 16/03/2019 06:12

someone needs to make a chart.i want to see if how many kids or age etc makes a difference.

Xanadu58 · 16/03/2019 06:26

I iron everything and I'm 50 .

S021 · 16/03/2019 06:28

No - 50s
DH does his own shirts

DinosApple · 16/03/2019 06:33

No. 30s.

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 16/03/2019 06:33

I iron nothing except particular garments or fabrics (linen, silk etc.).

Sometimes collars and cuffs need a quick spray starch and iron to make the shirt look a little smarter and often I only get the iron out for one or two garments per wash.

ohcarriemathison · 16/03/2019 06:34

I used to iron absolutely everything for PFB DD.
After my third I completely stopped.
Can't even remember when I last used my iron, last year at least. I'm 40.
My parents (67, 61) seem to always be ironing, I'm puzzled how they have so much with only 2 of them in the house.

AuntMarch · 16/03/2019 06:41

Never have yet.
I don't dress formal for my job though or I would I expect.

PhryneFisher · 16/03/2019 06:45

Only one child’s school shirt, the other wears polos.
And that’s only ever if the tumble dryer isn’t working for some reason.

It’s a waste of time, bad for the clothes (I decided) and it’s the only household chore that you do entirely for the benefit of others, because the only reason people iron is because everyone else does, and you don’t want to be the only one in the office/child of the only kid in school with a creased shirt.

Amore22 · 16/03/2019 07:36

I don't like ironing but do like pressed clothes so.. bought a steamer a few months ago and it is much quicker and easier for me. Don't iron everything, just what is really needed. DH gets his shirts done though at a launderette 5 pnds for five shirts.

megletthesecond · 16/03/2019 07:37

Never.
Line dry as much as I can to blow the creases out then straight onto a hanger.

Lungelady · 16/03/2019 07:43

I love ironing my own clothes...I am 60. Takes me about an hour a week.
Dh does his own or we send his shirts to an ironing lady, who also does my bedding.
I taught my dcs to iron at about 14, and they had the option of paying me to do their clothes.
I only tumble dry bedding .

TapasForTwo · 16/03/2019 07:47

meglet I line dry when I can, but it doesn't get the creases out of my clothes, even though I pull them into shape and stretch them to get rid of the creases. Where am I going wrong?

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 16/03/2019 08:16

No. Ironing is pointless wifework invented by men to stop women writing symphonies and painting masterpieces and generally taking over the world.

Kim82 · 16/03/2019 08:19

I only iron school and work uniform and the odd outfit if we’re going somewhere nice. I don’t iron day to day clothes. I’m 37.

hazeyjane · 16/03/2019 08:21

No.
Nearly 50
The only reason we have an iron is hama beads

marble11 · 16/03/2019 08:21

I iron everything. I have friend who don't and I can tell their clothes look crumpled. I am 34 and I havr always ironed. It takes an hour at most once a week.

DivisionBelles · 16/03/2019 08:24

I iron on a needs only basis. DH (ex-forces) does anything that desperately needs doing as he's much better at it than me. I can't actually remember the last time I ironed!

Windingstreams · 16/03/2019 08:28

I’m 41 and I’ve not really ever ironed beyond a couple of items. My husband wears shirts for work but our cleaner does those, or he would. I’m surprised at the old schoolers still ironing for their husbands!

Jojoanna · 16/03/2019 08:34

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu 😂😂

wwwwwwwwwwwwww · 16/03/2019 08:34

30's I do.
I just don't think things look and hang right without ironing. I have to be honest when I see people with an unironed shirt to me it's the equivalent of unpolished shoes it just looks unkempt. I don't think those shirts that claim to not need ironing look the same. Obviously it depends on the item leggings don't need ironing. Most our pure cotton I think thing with elastic/ synthetic fabrics do better with just going through the tumble dryer. I love getting into bed with freshly washed and ironed sheets but understand that's a personal preference.

WoollyMummoth · 16/03/2019 08:39

Hell no! My free time is way too precious to spend ironing. Clothes go from washer to hanger to wardrobe. I have been know to theatrical roll on linen dresses on the bed to remove creases. I’m racing towards 50 at an alarming speed.
