Do you iron?

We don’t do any ironing except for the odd formal item. I probably haven’t used my iron for 6 months.

My DM is very shocked by this.

Do you iron & what age bracket are you? I’m in my 30s

I iron DHs work shirts and my linen stuff. I drag the ironing board out about once a fortnight.
I'm 56.

fussychica · 15/03/2019 09:14

Yep everything pretty much. Hate tumble drying with a vengence. 60s. Do it as soon as it's dry usually. Takes very little time. I love freshly ironed bedding.

My DS, 20s, never irons anything.

AlphaJura · 15/03/2019 09:17

I only iron for a special occasion like a wedding or funeral, shirts and dresses mostly. I don't own an ironing board, I just use the table with a towel on. My mum irons everything (in her 60s). I don't own a tumble drier either but it's fine if you hang them up flat and fold properly afterwards.

MumUnderTheMoon · 15/03/2019 09:22

I'm 34 and I don't iron might have to next year for dds school shirts though. Boo!!

howcanwe · 15/03/2019 10:16

I'm 38, and I do iron everything.

Delatron · 15/03/2019 10:48

I’m genuinely shocked about ironing tea towels. Who comes round to look at your lovely ironed tea towels? The minute you use them they get crumpled?
Life really is too short....

Monkeybunkey · 15/03/2019 10:51

Early forties, have ironed one thing (formal item for a wedding) since I moved house nearly 4 years ago. Had to hunt down the iron as I couldn't remember where I'd put it when I moved in! I tumble dry stuff which seems to get the worst of the creases out or hang out on the line in the summer.

TapasForTwo · 15/03/2019 10:56

Why does line hanging or tumble drying not get the creases out of my clothes?

user1497787065 · 15/03/2019 11:30

I iron everything except towels. It is just laziness not to do so. The appearance of everyone is vastly improved by well ironed clothes.

zizza · 15/03/2019 11:55

I'm 50 and rarely iron anything. I've got a few items of clothing that need an iron but don't get worn often, and DH irons shirts when he needs to wear them for work.

Mind you... I admit I ironed a couple of pillow cases the other day. Got a new set and they were really crumpled out of the drier and I wanted the bed to look/feel nice when I put them back on. Felt very 1950s housewife all of a sudden 😂

😂😂 Got your judgey pants on this morning, at least they are well ironed though eh?

CabbageHippy · 15/03/2019 12:05

nope unless fully crumpled or a posh do - I also don't pair my socks into neat little balls

I did come unstuck once though when I went to an event & had only ironed the front middle part of my shirt as I was wearing a suit - turns out it was blooming hot so was faced with removing jacket & looking like a crumpled mess or sweating Grin

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 15/03/2019 12:05

Nope.

AdorableMisfit · 15/03/2019 12:43

I'm 40 and I iron once a year - a tablecloth for the Christmas dinner table.

bumblingbovine49 · 15/03/2019 13:38

No apart from the occasional thing for a smart occasion. Also very occasionally a short for DH if I the mk it looks really created ( he couldn't care less what he looks like).I am 54 and my mother ironed every thing including tea towels etc and taught me to iron very young. I never did it myself after leaving home though

bumblingbovine49 · 15/03/2019 13:44

Oh and I mix tumble and line drying. I put underwear and sports clothes and towels and sheets in the tumble dryer but hang up every thing else

I don't iron regardless of how it is dried. I don't let clothes sit in the washing machine though and I sort of pull and stretch wet stuff and hang it carefully. I like to put dry clothes away quickly as we don't have a utility to and I don't like lots of clothes around my living area so ironing is.cut out of the process. I do have an iron and maybe use it once every couple of months

MadisonAvenue · 15/03/2019 13:57

I iron everything except underwear and socks, towels and fitted sheets. I don’t mind doing ironing and clothes look much better for being ironed. You can definitely see a difference.
I’m 49.

Angelinthenightx · 15/03/2019 14:18

Yes i iron 6+ hours ish every sunday with a bowl of sweets and netflix ,im 39 years old , I know many people who do iron and others that dont.

trendingorange · 15/03/2019 15:16

I've started ironing anything cotton (clothes not bedding) as I'm pretty slobby ... do this helps raise my appearance a bit.
I did used to iron bedding and linens etc, but not much room in my new house and so I don't find it a nice relaxing job which I used to.

Delatron · 15/03/2019 15:36

6 hours every Sunday! Wow. Imagine all the other stuff you could be doing. Sorry but life really is too short.

TheKitchenWitch · 15/03/2019 16:06

Yes, only things that are crumpled though (shirts, some tops, trousers). So about 30-45 mins a week I reckon. I listen to podcasts while doing it. I find it's no better or worse than any other housework tbh. I do what is necessary or what I think needs doing. I'm 46.

labazsisgoingmad · 15/03/2019 16:33

mid 50s only iron if going somewhere posh or if clothes have become creased

BarnamintBaileys · 15/03/2019 16:43

Early 40s and yes I iron the kids’ uniforms and my work shirts. We can’t afford a drier and even if I take things out of the washer and hang them up straight away they are still really creased. To me, it’s just another chore on the list and I know for a fact that the hour or so a week it takes me to get it done would not be spent doing anything more interesting or life-changing!

FrenchyQ · 15/03/2019 16:50

I didn't up until a month ago...but then I figured that i found it quite therapeutic
I'm 40

ginghamtablecloths · 15/03/2019 16:56

I'm 64, I iron t-shirts (only those which would look crumpled otherwise), blouses, dresses, pillowcases, pyjamas and tea-towels. Nothing else. It probably takes no more than half an hour, if that.
