Do you iron?

We don’t do any ironing except for the odd formal item. I probably haven’t used my iron for 6 months.

My DM is very shocked by this.

Do you iron & what age bracket are you? I’m in my 30s

I'm 54 and have never ironed anything I've 3DS'S and learnt that it was a waste of energy, both electricity and my own!

Tavannach · 14/03/2019 23:36

Yes, I find ironing really soothing. I love seeing beautifully pressed clothes, but I don't iron every day just special occasions and work clothes.

Chocfritter · 14/03/2019 23:41

No, no and never!!

AnnaFiveTowns · 15/03/2019 00:01

No. I hang clothes on the airer as soon as the wash is finished and that's good enough.

hooverlines · 15/03/2019 00:11

Iron everything including bedding, i find it quite relaxing and I do it while watching telly. I'm 21. Nothing better than washing, drying, ironing and then putting away a pile of lovely fresh, clean, fragrant laundry!

MarthasGinYard · 15/03/2019 00:13

Dp does all the ironing

He won't do bedding so I sometimes do

bliminy · 15/03/2019 00:54

I'm 49, I can't remember the last time I ironed anything. We do have an iron... somewhere. I have some linen trousers I'll need to iron when it gets warm so I'll have to find it at some point.

DH travels a lot so he packs his work shirts unironed, then irons them in the hotel if they need it.

No school uniforms here.

I feel like I ought to teach my kids how to use an iron, then I just think 'YouTube'.

Kokeshi123 · 15/03/2019 01:28
  1. I iron the odd nice dress or top. Husband's shirts go to a laundry service. We all look fine.
VanillaBlossom · 15/03/2019 01:35

Life's too short to iron (unless a special occasion pops up) 😊

Dumbledorker · 15/03/2019 02:14

I always fold clothes while taking them out of the washing machine and then fold them after they have been on the radiators (dryer has died). Then if I make the dried pile big enough and dont put the clothes away for a week its heavy enough to press the clothes themselves from the pressure and compact piles that accumulates. And this is what I tell myself so I dont feel bad. Grin I do actually enjoy ironing though and I once ironed two baskets of clothes and put them away. I felt very organised but also very cross when the kids threw them all over their bedroom as per 😪

999caffeineplease · 15/03/2019 02:48

I iron two dresses for work on a Sunday that crease the minute I put them on and one pair of creasy trousers as and when. If DP’s work shirts are waiting while I’m doing Sunday ironing I’ll do those too.

Despite no dryer and a terrible washing machine, still manage to look fine after being folded well

HeathRobinson · 15/03/2019 03:14

No ironing here. I buy my clothes accordingly.

33goingon64 · 15/03/2019 03:16

The cleaner irons DH's work shirts and a few of my things. Other things just hang up to dry. When I moved in with DH his mum took me aside and said 'when you iron DH's hankies...', I stopped her right there. She irons pants and tea towels.

c75kp0r · 15/03/2019 03:31

I'm 50 I used to iron DH shirts. Then one week I just stopped about 2 years ago. I did tell him at the time but he has either forgotten or didn't listen. So we had this conversation about a month ago - literally

"didn't you iron this shirt?" "no"
"but it's creased" "hm, yes, you should really iron it".
"Why didn't you iron it?" "well, I haven't ironed anything of yours for about 2 years now"
"why?" "good question - why haven't done any ironing for the last 2 years ;)"

brizzlemint · 15/03/2019 03:36

Only m&s school trousers which come out of the wash creased as hell, why can't they make them non iron like th shirts?

BlameItOnBianca · 15/03/2019 05:17

I outsource my ironing. Once a week I come home to everything ironed, including bedsheets, linen etc, all of it hung up and put away.

DM adores ironing, I didn't inherit that gene Grin. I'm late 30s.

Spiderbanana · 15/03/2019 05:21

Late 30s and never iron.
DH likes to wear shirts sometimes. He is awful at ironing so I bought him a steamer so he can do it himself.

Nononononono33 · 15/03/2019 05:30

Late 30s. I iron most things (draw the line at bedsheets, duvet covers and underwear). I think it’s the law that you have to iron whilst catching up on good tv, followed by a glass of wine as a reward. I also have a fancy iron which does make it easier.

GreenDragon75 · 15/03/2019 05:33

I don’t do a big iron but do things as I need them (shirts etc). Most stuff doesn’t. School uniform gets hung up straight from the dryer and doesn’t need it. I don’t iron or put away dcs clothes as got fed up of putting a lovely pile of clean freshly ironed clothes in rooms to see them in a crumpled heap on the floor hours later.
My sister on the other hand loves it and is always going on about the pile of ironing she has done of needs to do.

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 15/03/2019 05:44

I haven’t used an iron since my youngest stopped wearing school uniform shirts. That’s about 12 years ago.

MutantDisco · 15/03/2019 05:53

No FUCK THAT for a game of soldiers.

Ironing was invented to give 1950s housewifes more shit to do.

I work and look after the DCs, I wouldn't iron even if I got paid per item.

blueskiesovertheforest · 15/03/2019 06:17

No. Mid 40s. Kids don't wear uniform, neither adult wears shirts to work - DH has an office based job but one where almost nobody in that type of role wears shirt and tie, and I said when he was changing job a while ago that if he goes for a short and tie role he would need to iron his own or take them to an ironing service.

I have no interest in the opinion of the sort of person who judges anyone else on whether jeans and t shirts are ironed - if you care about that I think less of you for it.

MrsJonesAndMe · 15/03/2019 06:22

Mid 30s. Didn't use to, but look so much better for ironing. No tumble drier here. DH has always ironed his work shits, Ts and jeans.

Snog · 15/03/2019 06:27

I'm 51. In our house everything gets ironed by me or DH. He has Work shirts. We iron all of our sheets, PJs, boxers etc
Probably takes 3 hours a week.

We don't iron our teenager's stuff, that's up to her and she chooses not to!

icelollycraving · 15/03/2019 06:28

Mid 40s. I iron everything except sheets, towels and underwear. It takes ages but my steam generator does make it easier and quicker. I love things being pressed.
