Thoughts? I personally wouldn't have even noticed what she was wearing, she looks nice and it's not like she's parading round in a thong and nipple tassels!

I wouldn't have noticed it either. But I have (perhaps wrongly?) always assumed that bralettes are underwear - like bras - so I wouldn't personally have thought to wear one as a top.

HappyDinosaur · 13/03/2019 19:46

I thought they handled it very badly and she looked nicely dressed, it definitely wasn't an 'inappropriate' outfit. However, given the teency tiny miniscule seat space on most flights now I would urge as little bare skin as possible as I really don't want to be skin to skin with the people sitting next to me!

slipperywhensparticus · 13/03/2019 19:47

I think bralettes are considered underwear and that's the whole point isn't it? Underwear should be wore underneath something and she stood up and challenged the passengers? Demanding to know if anyone had an issue with her clothing that's the point it crossed the line

Finfintytint · 13/03/2019 19:47

I couldn’t see the problem. Man in vest top went unchallenged. Just a case of men telling women what to wear. What was their concern? Do air accident investigators look at pilot error versus woman in short top as a cause for disaster?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/03/2019 19:48

I don't really see the problem...assuming the top isn't gaping anywhere or made of extremely thin fabric which blatantly shows nipple it really isn't a big deal. Actually even that isn't necessarily a biggie either as many young man wear v tight t shirts showing nip with tight trousers hanging down their arse.

Yup once again a females outfit is policed Confused

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/03/2019 19:49

I would have offered her a cardi but that's because I'm always bloody freezing on planes and just looking at her makes me feel cold.

Aragog · 13/03/2019 19:50

It does look like a bralette, not a proper top tbh. There appears to be little back to it. I wouldn't have seen it as being proper outwear bar being by the beach, in a club/bar etc. Likewise I wouldn't see a vest on a man as being proper outwear for a plane journey either.

Couldn't she have just through a little wrap or cardi type thing over it - surely more comfortable when sitting on a scratchy material, or plastic 'leather' plane seat anyway.

Maybe Im just old though Grin

Rubusfruticosus · 13/03/2019 19:50

She is only wearing a bra. I don't think it is too much to ask her to wear a top as well.

NorthernBullet · 13/03/2019 19:51

And apparently some bloke shouting "sit down you stupid woman" went completely ignored Hmm

She looks fine. Much better than those with their arses hanging out.

Finfintytint · 13/03/2019 19:53

Is it just a bra though? To me it’s just a crop top. You see less at a swimming pool and if you are in the holiday mood you just wear what is comfortable though a bit chilly on a runway in Birmingham tbh.

Aragog · 13/03/2019 19:53

Yes, the man shouting out should have been challenged.
As should the other man if wearing a small vest top and not a proper top.

Though I think the people who originally questioned her about her attire were female air crew, when I read earlier.

StarlightLady · 13/03/2019 19:54

Later news reports had amended Bralette to a “crpped top”. Maybe a make journalist first time around.

2 points here. I think the attitude of the airline was dreadful. Women who wear a sari have their tummies showing. It is really no big deal.

But why would anyone fly out of the UK on a cold March day in a crpped top?

museumum · 13/03/2019 19:55

She’s a bit underdressed. Surely she had a cardi with her??
Not sure why she was so shaken though.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 13/03/2019 19:55

She looks fine!

If one layer is fine for men then it’s fine for women. What is the difference between this top and a woman wearing a black t-shirt with no bra underneath? Zero.

Aragog · 13/03/2019 19:56

You see less at a swimming pool

But it isn't a swimming pool or the beach. It's a plane. Most airlines do have dress code rules.

Lockheart · 13/03/2019 19:56

It's underwear though isn't it? It might be appropriate for the beach or the pool but not for public transport.

I'd presume a man in a bra wouldn't be allowed on the flight either.

EggysMom · 13/03/2019 19:57

So where do you draw the line between wearing a bralet, and wearing a bikini top or just a bra?

Sorry, I'm old-fashioned. She was wearing underwear, and I'd have wanted her to cover up too.

Rubusfruticosus · 13/03/2019 19:57

Why would anyone walk though an airport in their bra? Or did she take off clothing before boarding?

NorthernBullet · 13/03/2019 19:57

I don't see an issue, but agree it's a bit cold for Brum! Love how the dress policy is available in the "in-flight" magazine, available on board Grin

pusspuss9 · 13/03/2019 20:01

The airline were totally correct. Most airlines have dress codes. Her attire was inappropriate.

Tomtontom · 13/03/2019 20:01

Looks more like swimwear or underwear to me. And a badly fitting one at that.

It's definitely not a vest top.

Finfintytint · 13/03/2019 20:03

Aragog, some people see the travel as an extension of their holiday. I don’t see how a woman wearing what she wants to wear as a problem wherever. I don’t see a crop top as indecent. Nobody died and if men objected then it’s down to their attitude. She didn’t go fanjo ablazing - she just wore a shorter top than one would ordinarily wear in Birmingham mid March. I am very old and would wear a comfy cardigan for a flight but it doesn’t mean I’m judgemental about those who want to wear want they want.

SwimmingKaren · 13/03/2019 20:03

I wear this kind of top all the time in summer although admittedly with a bra underneath. Could she have gone without a bra perhaps and it was a bit more sheer than it looks in the photo and just appeared she was in a bra / bikini top type thing? It’s just a crop top surely, nothing hanging out that shouldn’t be? Poor girl, sounds like she was really shamed over it. I’d have been notified at that age.
