Thoughts? I personally wouldn't have even noticed what she was wearing, she looks nice and it's not like she's parading round in a thong and nipple tassels!

This look is very popular amongst her age group in my area. I wouldn't have looked twice if she was somewhere hot. The fact it's raining cats and dogs these days would have made me think she was cold but like it or not it is the fashion of the day.

FloodedCuticles · 13/03/2019 20:26

She was told to cover up because her back was bare skin apart from a thin horizontal strap which isn't hygienic.

NunoGoncalves · 13/03/2019 20:27

So I'm only going by the report OP linked but all the drama others are referring to could be interpreted as a young girl standing up for herself

I just feel there are some things that we really need to stand up against, and others that we really do not. And this is the latter, for me.

Lockheart · 13/03/2019 20:30

She does indeed look lovely. I wish I could pull it off. But it's still not appropriate for public transport Confused

You wouldn't wear scruffs to a posh restaurant, you wouldn't go topless in the supermarket (I know some men do in the summer and I maintain the shops should ban it), you wouldn't wear a Speedo at the dentist and you shouldn't only be wearing a bra on public transport!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/03/2019 20:31

I agree Nuno and at my age I might choose my battles. I damn well wish I'd chosen a few more when I was her age though.

However I do also agree that at the point you're made aware your actions could delay a flight then yes the battle needs to pause for the time being.

adulthumanwolf · 13/03/2019 20:31

Fashionable clothes these days make me feel super old.

EstrellaDamn · 13/03/2019 20:32

Going to try not to blow my top at the line being drawn between a woman wearing perfectly normal clothing and a swastika tattoo Shock

Fantababy · 13/03/2019 20:36

It looks like attention seeking to me too. It looks like she kicked up a massive fuss, delaying everyone else for a total non issue. If I was another passenger I'd not care what she was wearing, but I'd be really pissed off if she was potentially holding up my holiday. People travel with kids that they're anxious not to have in a confined space for too long, or some people are very nervous fliers so want to get it over with.

MistressDeeCee · 13/03/2019 20:37

It's freezing March. She's an attention seeker, and she got attention. What's the problem...

whatamidoingwithmylife · 13/03/2019 20:39

They were right to make her cover up. I don't want to sit in a seat where someone's bare, sweaty back has been for the past few hours. Any body part that's touching the seat should be fully covered. I've seen people in the tiniest of hot pants on planes and feel grossed out knowing some poor soul has to sit where their bare arse cheeks have been.
Why would she want her skin touching those dirty seats anyway? As some have already said, she seems to be an attention seeker.

I always have a chuckle to myself when exiting a plane to find godawful weather and half the plane are dressed like they're at the beach. Happened in Iceland recently - folks dressed in inappropriate clothing and it was pissing it down and 50mph winds. Bloody hilarious when they couldn't fit in the little airport bus and had to wait for the next one in the rain with no coat GrinGrinGrin

e1y1 · 13/03/2019 20:40

She looks nice an it wouldn't be out of place on the beach or in a bar, but is totally inappropriate for a flight.

Dress code is just right clothes at the right time, just like you wouldn't wear a ball gown to do the food shop.

I think what she's wearing is a crap choice for travelling by plane. You're crammed in, & no one wants a stranger's bare shoulders rubbing against them for hours.

I'd feel the same about a sweaty bloke in a vest top. Just put a proper tshirt on ffs.

Perfectly ok beach/casual bar wear. Just not ideal for being in close quarters with strangers for hours in a narrow row of seats.

I think the airline over reacted, though. It's not offensive, just not ideal.

thenightsky · 13/03/2019 20:42

Last Thomas Cook flight I went on had horrible vinyl/plastic seats. Not something you'd want to press bare flesh against and have to peel yourself off a few hours later [shudder]

Dippypippy1980 · 13/03/2019 20:43

I’m torn about this one. I may be getting old, but her outfit seems too skimpy for a flight. Like others have said I don’t think I would feel very comfortable sitting beside her for a flight - too much bare flesh.

But, is that my issue or hers? I would feel equally uncomfortable about a man in a vest style t shirt. Would he have been challenged by the airline?

Handled badly regardless of the right side or wrongs of the policy.

Marcipex · 13/03/2019 20:46

It looked like a bra to me. I thought it was reasonable to ask her to cover up while on the plane.

Airlines normally have a dress code.

It's not a beach or a park, the point is people are squashed up together.

As for being 'shaken' , did she really say that? I suppose in that case she'll be pouting in the Daily Fail tomorrow.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 13/03/2019 20:51

Clue is in the name-bralet (a form of bra perhaps?) and therefore underwear. I think the should have had a shirt or jacket over the top. The comparison to a man in a vest top isnt quite right though because women wear vest tops/tank tops too and that’s okay.
I think the comparison would be topless man (shudder) or someone of either sex trying to get on in just their underpants with no skirt/trousers/shorts over the top.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 13/03/2019 20:57

I often see young men dressed like this on a flight and no one gets their knickers in a twist. What's the difference?

Looks like a bra to me.

Surely she had a cardigan with her, I find the air on on planes really chilly.

SnailorSwift · 13/03/2019 21:03

Fuck me misogyny is well and truly alive isn't it going by some of these responses 🙄

Livingoncake · 13/03/2019 21:04

This thread makes me think of the final episode of Friends, in which Rachel is wearing a miniskirt for a flight from New York to Paris. I realise the producers probably wanted to show off Jennifer Aniston’s fabulous body one last time but the impracticality of it has irked me every time I’ve watched it. Not to mention it’s kinda gross, as PPs have said.

Like others, I think there may be more to this. Wouldn’t most of us just roll our eyes and put on the bloody cardi? I suspect the four extra staff came to lend their support when the situation went beyond the simple exchange it should have been.

EstrellaDamn · 13/03/2019 21:13

The difference is they are men @tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz and the person kicked off the flight was a woman.

soulrider · 13/03/2019 21:14

I often see young men dressed like this on a flight

I've never seen a man in a bralette on a flight, must be flying to the wrong places!

maddiemookins16mum · 13/03/2019 21:15

I’d like to hear the other side of the story. Airlines don’t threaten to offload customers lightly, it can cause missed departure slots, delays, unloading all luggage to find hers etc.

StarlightLady · 13/03/2019 21:18

It’s intetesting talking about airline dress codes if I may digress. Before BA came into being in there present guise, there was BEA and BOAC who merged to become BA. We had a family member who was a cabin crew member (they called them air hostesses back then) for BOAC. Their staff dress code stated “Underwear, if worn, shall be white”. Grin It’s true.
