I think I look exactly my age. Although a lady at the gym was absolutely astonished when I said I have a 14yo and said I looked fat too young (I'm 34). I'm taking that as a compliment and thinking she may be partially sighted 😂😂

Namechange8471 · 13/03/2019 08:17

Younger because I'm fat and short 😂

DuchessOfPhysics · 13/03/2019 08:17

Poshpenny get that fleece off yourself and go shopping :-p

TheQueef · 13/03/2019 08:19

I would have guessed 45-49 Penny smiling always looks younger, great pic.

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 13/03/2019 08:21

I looked very young for my age from childhood until I became a mother. I don't think my routine has changed that much, I get an OK amount of sleep, moisturise, still get my hair done and will wear make up if going out etc, but out of nowhere my age seems to have crept up on me with my skin. The getting ID'd and astonishment at my age have noticeably dropped off!

findingmyfeet12 · 13/03/2019 08:23

I used to look younger than my age. My hair is greying now and I've put on weight so I look my age.

I'm trying to loose the weight and will probably start dying my hair.

On the plus side I have no wrinkles at all which many of my friends of the same age have.

MojitoMojitoo · 13/03/2019 08:23

Im 28 this year but people think I'm early 20s Grin

BlueMerchant · 13/03/2019 08:26

PoshPenny- I'd have said early 50s (51-2). You look very fresh-faced with great skin. You also look like a vibrant fun person.
I am not yet 40. I don't look like a vibrant, fun person. I look stressed and worried with a permanent frownSad

olderthanyouthink · 13/03/2019 08:27

Like a PP mixed race and look young, 23 not had any recent guesses but probably around 18. Had a baby so I think people age me up because of that now.

My dads (55) been mistaken for my brother or boyfriend and my nan (71) for my aunt or Mum.

LaMarschallin · 13/03/2019 08:28

I think we're lucky to be living in an age (as far as looks are concerned; the present day can be scary as far as other things go) where we have access to better skin care and different attitudes. We know that a sun tan, no matter how good it makes you look in your 20s, damages the skin. There's no stigma at dying one's hair - my ex mil never died her hair as she didn't approve of "bottle blondes" and even my ex sil gets a bit embarrassed when someone asks her what colour dye she uses. We're not expected to cut and perm our hair when we reach 40.
Good genes, not smoking, not drinking to excess (most timesSmile) etc all help, of course, but there's a much less standardised "older person" look as well.
All of which may reflect the fact that the majority (as far as my speed reading goes) of posters on this thread (myself included) feel they look younger than they are.
One proviso though. Does anyone remember the programme "10 Years Younger"? The subject's age was guessed by various strangers. They then had a makeover (sometimes including surgery, teeth whitening etc - not just a haircut and new makeup) and their ages were again guessed by more strangers. The point being that when their ages were first estimated the people guessing were out of earshot of the subject. The second time, they were brought up and introduced to the madeover person and asked for their estimate. Despite all the makeovering (okay - not a real word) it seemed the producers weren't confident they'd get a dramatic enough difference in perceived age by comparing like with like. So it may make a difference as to whether people are talking to us or about us.
I also know I have a special "mirror" face if I'm looking at myself. The time I was fiddling with a new phone and took an unintentional selfie (makeup-free and frowning) was a nasty shock!

MiniTheMinx · 13/03/2019 08:29

Penny you look lovely, you have lovely healthy glowy skin.

Yesterday, minus 3 ! I'm 46. Excuse the silly hat and puzzled expression. My son plonked it on my head and took the photo.

I look younger without make up. With make up I look like a screwed up paper bag. I'm often assumed younger based on being small and having a good figure. But the face.....oh dear.

Oblomov19 · 13/03/2019 08:30

I assume I look my age. I scrub up ok. My skin has aged, but I don't have tonnes of wrinkles or any distinguishing marks, a bit nondescript I guess.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 13/03/2019 08:34

I think almost everyone looks their age when you really look at them, but some people look good for their age, or style themselves younger/older. I used to, but then I had DS, and less sleep, less exercise, less time to look after myself, and less energy to use the time I do have....it's definitely taken a toll.

Pinnacular · 13/03/2019 08:38

I got Id'd buying wine recently. I'm early forties. I think I realistically look about 38 on an average day.

Sexnotgender · 13/03/2019 08:39

Younger.

I’m nearly 37 and was frequently getting asked for ID until about a year ago.
I have great skin and zero wrinkles.

BrendaUrie · 13/03/2019 08:41

Younger.

Everyone's always shocked I have a lot of kids.

A lady guessed my age recently at 22. I'm 34

cricketmum84 · 13/03/2019 08:43

Well this is me at 34. I think my hair makes me look a bit younger. Also as I'm losing weight I think my face will show my age a little more. At the moment any wrinkles are plumped out by fat 😂😂

AnnabelleLecter · 13/03/2019 08:46

People often say younger, but it's more important to me to look my best. So I am happy to look my age,50, as long as I look good. My efforts go into looking great not looking young for the sake of it.

Sarcelle · 13/03/2019 08:48

I have always looked young for my age, people my age never used to think I was the same age as them. When I was 50 people regularly thought I was late 30s. However, now I am 53 I think I am now ageing rapidly. I look in my early 50s. I can't think why, I have minimal wrinkles, good skin, no grey hair, good teeth. It has been rapid and my menopausal symptoms have stepped up, so I can only assume that the decrease in key hormones ages people. It really has been a marked ageing in the last year. I have no idea why I look older, I just do.

I am in good shape, I dress stylishly, but my face is now letting the side down. But, what can you do? I am not bothered about attracting men, and I am not interested in doing any tweaks via Botox, fillers and the like, so I have to accept that we all age, and whilst I would like my former young visage back, I value my health more these days and just want to be as well and fit as I can.

SongforSal · 13/03/2019 08:58

Iv'e been mistaken for early 20's a couple of times lately and i'm 36. Both times were in front of my 18yr DD and she was mortified! Once in a bar and a young lad asked for my phone number, and the other time when I visited my dd at Uni. I brought Dd some clothes and she said 'Thanks Mum' at the till, and the lady serving questioned me being her Mother.

Other than that, I feel every bit 36. And then some!

Underthemo0n · 13/03/2019 09:11

In my experience people nearly always think they look younger than they are and keep in mind the times they have been id'd or had people "seem" shocked at their age.

My workmate is 42 and if I am honest she looks older but she is convinced she looks about 28. She claims to only have about 5% grey hair but she must be over 50% grey when her roots show. She is completely delusional but who cares, as long as she is happy.

Even people with no wrinkles, no greys etc still manage to look pretty much their age. I always find that people tend to focus on different things so a woman withnice skin will focus on her unlined face and overlook her weight, hair or dress looking frumpy. A woman with a trim figure and trendy wardrobe thinks she looks youthful while ignoring her aged face and so on.

What I am saying is that most people look their age one way or another. All the photos on this thread look their age and their is nothing wrong with that.

Underthemo0n · 13/03/2019 09:15

Also people older than you typically guess you to be younger. This is simply because they know you look younger but imagine that they still look 32 at 42 so you who are 32 or whatever must be much younger because they can see you look younger than them.

Megan2018 · 13/03/2019 09:16

Younger. People are genuinely surprised to hear I am 40, they assume early 30's.

I rarely wear any makeup and don't do much skincare wise - it is just genes. My grandmother is 92, still living independently and looks much younger than that. My mother is almost 70 and passes for 60.

Am pg so expect to age dramatically post birth!
