Facially I think I look slightly younger although aware people say they aged suddenly
Have noticed an improvement with higher end skincare

If I hadn't smoked for 24 years I'd look younger 😞

YouBumder · 13/03/2019 22:36

What a beautiful elegant lady your mum looks lobster

Cherrysoup · 13/03/2019 22:38

Two people put me at 35 last week, one my age, one nearly 30. I’m 49, so I was chuffed.

BlueStockingUK · 13/03/2019 22:44

@Delatron I really don't think posters are being vain Hmm

it really isn't our own interpretation. I genuinely feel, most poster's have commented re others' opinions.
Why do you feel, it's "funny" that people feel they look younger??
I'm certainly not vain, not in the slightest.
But, It is factual that (others') claim I look much younger than my age.
I presume from your post, you look your age... Biscuit

myidentitymycrisis · 13/03/2019 22:57

Two people recently have told me I don't look old enough to have a 24 year old, which I find hard to believe. Seeing as I'm 52, that means I look around 40.

They were both women aged between 40 - 50.

my dc reckons I look 45.

I think I look like me.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 13/03/2019 23:09

Thank you for all the nice comments about my mother. She's never tried to look younger - has just never smoked, doesn't drink and is very fair skinned so has never sat in the sun. She eats a lot, not especially healthily and never exercises. She's very fond of saying she'll be 90 next year though!

MaryBoBary · 13/03/2019 23:25

😂 @Delatron you sound a bit bitter - OP didn’t put any age restrictions to her post so don’t see why you think you should.

Delatron · 14/03/2019 07:47

Ha Mary I am a bit. To be honest I was always told I looked a good 10 years younger. Then you hit 42/43 and for most people that’s when it all goes to shit. So when people who are 28 say they look younger it’s not that impressive.

Looking 10 years younger at 50 is impressive.

I do lots, laser facials, retinol, spf, eat well, micro current. So I have good skin I just look my age.

Happynow001 · 14/03/2019 07:50

Younger on the outside but, inside, my body knows the truth! 😀

Lardlizard · 14/03/2019 07:54

Delatron but if you didn’t do all that you perhaps would look ten years older than you do
I think I’ll be happy to look my age
But I don’t want to look older

Babygrey7 · 14/03/2019 07:55

I think I look my age, or older

Especially first thing in the morning

I always lie to people when they ask me how old they look, to flatter their ego, so if someone looks 55, I will say they look mid 40s

This is also why I never believe anyone who says I look younger than 48, as I assume they are just flattering me Grin

Hanumantelpiece · 14/03/2019 07:59

I think I look around my age. Particularly compared to long-standing friends of the same age. Many of DCs classmates parents think I am closer to their age (10 yrs younger), and a few think I am younger than that. I don't wear make up, so I have no idea where their disillusionment comes from.

Littlechocola · 14/03/2019 08:00

My age has caught up with my face and I think I now look my age. I look tired.

Delatron · 14/03/2019 08:00

Lardlizard good way to look at it!! I had sun damage and the lasers have sorted that so I’m reasonable happy. It’s just the shock going from looking years younger
to looking every inch your age. I need to make peace with it and it is the same for all my friends In their 40s.

Nobody can really escape the ageing process!

Lardlizard · 14/03/2019 09:00

I’ve just watched the changing faces on Netflix and in somenof the cases you think oh you looked better before

OP posts:
Delatron · 14/03/2019 13:20

@BlueStockingUk My point is that many, many people look younger than their age up to 40s. So all these claims of looking younger are a moot point really. I got told many a time that I looked late 20s until late 30s. You see that on this thread, 80% saying they look young for their age.

I thought that would continue and for most people it doesn’t. So if you look young for your age now don’t think you always will. There’s only so much moisturiser will do!

I’m happy with my skin and I do lots to maintain it. It’s actually better than it ever has been. I don’t fool myself that I don’t look 42 though. Most women in their 40s look it, no matter what work they have had done.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 14/03/2019 15:50

@Delatron my earlier comment pretty much reflects yours. The exception I know of is my mother, who genuinely doesn't look 89, has never had anything "done", doesn't use anything other than cheap moisturiser and had had a fairly rough (as in eventful) life.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 14/03/2019 15:52

That should be "has had" - not pluperfect as she is still very much alive 😀

Orangecookie · 14/03/2019 15:59

Yes I always used to look younger. Then hit mid forties...

Ouch! I’ve definately aged. Lots of stress. I look rougher than I used to.

However it really does change depending on what effort I put in and what I’m doing. I’ve found that:

Having great sex helps! (Not so much of that lately for me... Sad )
Wearing sports clothes! DSs mates think I’m young because their mums don’t wear labels and headphones!
Music and dancing
Eating well, sleeping well.
Teeth.
Hair - dyed of course and a good cut (still long)
Moving well, and having fresh curiosity for life. Not being stuck.

I don’t want to be constrained by just having to look young though. I can pull it off with huge effort now. But some days, I just want to be valued and respect for knowledge, wisdom, a life well lived. So I like doing projects that are about developing my experience and influencing the world still.

viccat · 14/03/2019 16:02

I think most of us "suffer" from it more in our 30s because it's less of a problem if someone isn't sure whether you're 40 or 50 but if you're 35 and people assume you're 21, you will get treated differently. Especially so in any professional context because young looks get read as being inexperienced. If you're a health care professional, a counsellor, a solicitor etc., clients may not want to work with you if they think you must be a newly out of university 21 year old when in fact you're well into your 30s and have been working for 10+ years in your field.

Delatron · 14/03/2019 16:16

I also think (I’ve clearly overthought this). Ageing kind of slows down in your 60/70s once you’re through the menopause. I think we in general take the biggest hit say 45-55. Collagen drops off a cliff basically.

My mum looks the same at 67 that she did at 60. I think this is also why lots of 80 years olds look fab.

woodhill · 14/03/2019 16:33

I was having my hair done the other week and the young hairdresser was surprised by my age but I think it depends how I look on the day.

I'm ill at the moment and think I look ghastly

goingtotown · 14/03/2019 16:35

Lobster your mum looks fantastic, any tips?

Lardlizard · 14/03/2019 16:48

Delatron o hear what your saying and I thjnk you are right, esp regarding the cliff

I guess it’s a bit like how fertility fall off a cliff post 35
(Even though lots of people have babies past this age) the fertility levels do drop off the edge of a cliff

@goingtotown she does absolutely nothing anti ageing wise and never has. It might sound weird but she never expresses emotion. I've often wondered if that somehow keeps her looking young! She's lost her sister (21), a son (5), her husband (93) and both parents. Always well groomed, practical whereas I cry at the drop of a hat!
