I am turning forty this year and am having a mild and amusing mid life crisis.
Lots if little things, but the latest is that I've just tried to brush away a stubborn eye brow hair that was lodged just under my eye... It was a wrinkle.
I have also developed joint pain, in my thumb of all places.
Please tell me this is as bad as it gets :o

I'm pushing 65 & can honestly say that my sixties are better than either my forties or fifties.

Menopause - over.

DC - settled & happy.

Work - retired.

My looks, white hair, chin hair, wrinkles - don't give a fuck.

Your life experience will give you a better perspective so that these things won't matter as much as you thought they would.

OTOH your memory will go.

BitOfFun · 10/03/2019 16:11

It's the kindness of age, isn't it? You get hairy and wrinkly, but too bleary-eyed to see it.

I'm 43 and have big knickers, comfortable shoes and I don't bother with make up every day any more.
You know what though, I've never felt so good. Bollocks to pleasing other people.

Oohhh lovely lovely thread!

Turned 40 three months ago. I have very young DC so was told that would make me feel younger. Does it heck? Every morning I roll up my saggy boobs from around my waist into my bra and apply root retouch to my greys religiously before heading for work. My knees creak when I bend and DD tells me they need oiling Grin.

I hear you on the yellow pages.. I'd probably can squeeze in another couple of paperbacks in there as well.

On the bright side since getting older I have very very limited number of f* to give. I'm more than happy with my lumpy body than I was with my size 8 pre DC version.

I bought a bikini for the first time in my life to squeeze my large bum into and looking forward to wearing it. Sshh.. it's very high waisted though to hold all my guts in.

Spiderbanana · 10/03/2019 16:12

I turn 40 this year too. My older DSis told me that she worried about it but life is great after 40 because you stop giving a fuck. Confused

I am trying to his 40 in peak condition but my attempts at yoga and using a PT just result in a litany of embarrassing incidents from wardrobe malfunctions to having to cough loudly to disguise the wind.

Plus I think I feel my face droop when I lie on my back Blush

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 10/03/2019 16:13

I have ten years on you OP

My younger friends can't get over the size of txt on my phone Blush

I was gutted when Jan-Michael Vincent died last week. (and even more devastated to learn he was 74).

ideasofmarch · 10/03/2019 16:14

You'll be scrubbing the front step, wiping your skirting boards every week, and clearing out the gutters before you know it Grin

And thinking about holidays in Madeira.

scaryteacher · 10/03/2019 16:15

I'm 53, but refuse to wear granny pants or have varifocals, because my Mum keeps telling me I should wear both. I refuse to turn into my Mum just yet!! I am however grey, as I got tired of spending €140 each time I had to have the grey hidden, so had it dyed grey, and it has morphed into my natural grey y as it has grown out.

I do have some elasticated waists, but not on my jeans, and would live in my fleece trousers all the time if I could.

I wear flat ankle boots in winter, and Gabor toe post slides in summer, or deck shoes. I do have a pair of wedges if I need a heel or am in a skirt.

re eyesight

one of my friends was telling me that she wanted to change make up after she looked in one of those mega magnifying mirrors

there's nothing wrong with my eyesight, but when I look in her mega magnifying mirror, I am horrified....but what's the point really, I mean, no one has sight like that?!!!

those mirrors should be banned Grin

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 10/03/2019 16:23

When you are 50, you will realise how bloody young you are right now you whippersnapper. Enjoy it!!!!

ShaggyRug · 10/03/2019 16:24

A single rogue hair keeps growing out of my chin.

I’m clearly extremely old or becoming a witch in my mid forties.

I too wear the granny pants.

Bunnyfuller · 10/03/2019 16:25

Here we all are! Sagging, nagging and no longer gagging (for it). In the blissful throes of spiteful peri-menopause. Don’t even glance at any but big knickers, hair dye a last nod at vanity, sex drive of a potato, eyesight deteriorating speedily (am now on glaucoma watch) and a fine old case of osteoarthritis in my hands. My only comfort is watching my (younger) DH start sliding down the same slope!

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 10/03/2019 16:26

Wait till you hit 50 . All kinds of issues (for me, anyway).

Enjoy being 40 OP , its not that bad ,, (wistfully wishes she was still coming up to 40)

fussychica · 10/03/2019 16:28

62 here. Think I look pretty good considering. The body is still good but jowls aren't a great look.Sad but I'd never have surgery. I like summer because a tan and a large pair of sunglasses can cover a multitude of sins!

I have improved my knee pain considerably which probably started in my late 40s by increasing my stretching and exercising routine. I cant wear proper high heels since I broke my foot years ago so it's always been comfort over style for me on that one rather than age related.

I was getting into a underwear rut so went out and bought lots of nice but comfortable sets and I like that now they always match. It make me feel better.

I've just decided to enjoy whatever I have left and not make hard work of it.

Shadow1234 · 10/03/2019 16:30

Worst thing for me is having disturbed sleep every night because I have to get up and go for a pee. (at least once, maybe twice). Can't remember the last time I slept right through the night.

I also feel like Simon Cowell with my high waisted jeans, rather than the ones that used to sit on my hips.

Octopus37 · 10/03/2019 16:30

I turned 44 in January, my glasses prescription has changed twice since I was 40, need my reading glasses more and more. Also have back ache, think I am getting some white hair or put it this way the hair that is coming through when my pink dye wears off looks more white than blonde. Seem to be more moody and emotional than ever, although it could be due to things going on or my personality. Really hate the fact that as you are get older there are more and more bad things happening to those around you, parents getting ill and dying is now the norm, which it wasn't when it happened to me with my Mum when I was 27. TBH starting to think that even when the kids are grown, they are 9 and 11 that I'm not going to get my mojo. I am fighting though, I still dye my hair, wear nice make up, wear trendy clothes and get out when I can, just seems to be a severe lack of energy.

LadyGAgain · 10/03/2019 16:31

I just did a jigsaw. On purpose. For pleasure. ConfusedGrin

Octopus37 · 10/03/2019 16:32

O yes, lines under my eyes and chin hairs as well, as well as spots. Not sure you're supposed to get spots in your 40s lol

x2boys · 10/03/2019 16:34

I'm 45 I have very grey hair which I dye , I got my first pair of reading glasses a few months ago the optician said my eyesight was generally ok but 're reason I as trouble reading was an age thing😢 it takes me about 3 d as I recover from a night out ,gone are the days when I can get him at 3am and be up bright and breezy for an early shift Hmm

SauvignonBlanche · 10/03/2019 16:39

This thread has really pissed me off! Angry
I’m just about to turn 50, I’d love to be 40 again, I didn’t feel old at all then.
Now I’m struggling to keep on top of my grey roots, I’m in the full throes of the menopause, my tits are sagging, my kids are still at home, I’ve another 10 years until I retire and I’ve just been told I need to use reading glasses on top of my varifocal contact lenses. Sad

I’d love to be forty Envy

ssd · 10/03/2019 16:42

I'm 52 and enjoy Escape To The Country

So far the menopause has been fine, got vagifem for dodgy bladder but that's it

Am stiffer then before but no bloody wonder carrying extra fat around

gamerwidow · 10/03/2019 16:42

The good thing about a lifetime of being really really short sighted is my eyesight is actually getting better as the long sightedness you get with age is balancing it out.

SauvignonBlanche · 10/03/2019 16:43

Many happy returns in advance OP, hope you have a lovely birthday Smile

ssd · 10/03/2019 16:43

I dread a night out
