I am very much no longer young

I am turning forty this year and am having a mild and amusing mid life crisis.
Lots if little things, but the latest is that I've just tried to brush away a stubborn eye brow hair that was lodged just under my eye... It was a wrinkle.
I have also developed joint pain, in my thumb of all places.
Please tell me this is as bad as it gets :o

Don’t know what you lot are moaning about. I got my pension statement this morning ... (I’m 65, by the way ..... ). Smile

Shortandsweet96 · 12/03/2019 23:33

A friend asked me to go to Starbucks this evening. I said yes to keep in with society but I felt very sad that I couldn't jump into bed at 6pm and read a book before going to sleep. Now I'm caffeinated and irritable!

Zoflorabore · 12/03/2019 23:46

I was 40 last year and started the year with a diagnosis of OCD and fibro fucking myalgia. Feel about 103 most days and look about 90.

Bra is now for comfort, knickers are getting higher, shoes are getting lower, hair is getting greyer and skin is getting shitter.

But apart from that.... all is great Envy

41 is going to be my year.

The full face threading really hurts I had my mustachio done and spent the hellish 10 mins on a chair watched by all in the shopping mall tears streaming down face as manic thread weilder grinned manically with my thread in her teeth saying it hurts no?
Try the veet moustache wax much kinder and can’t use on face pull taut!

whyamievenamazeddotcom · 13/03/2019 07:00

Should’ve said Can !

Applesaregreenandred · 13/03/2019 08:54

@cms1972 that sounds awful. HRT is supposed to make your life better - sounds like it's making things worse. I would definitely revisit your GP as something's not right.

Shockers · 13/03/2019 10:59

The lady who dyes my eyelashes for me has suggested derma blading to ‘brighten skin and lose the down’ which covers my face. I have resisted thus far, but wondered whether anyone here has had this done.

cms1972 · 13/03/2019 11:25

I went to my GP yesterday & she said "It's carer burnout. You've got compassion fatigue". So maybe it's not the HRT ... & now I'm trying to find a job stacking shelves. Which I think I'd rather enjoy, on the basis that at least you don't have to explain to the shelf how long it has left to live.

cms1972 · 13/03/2019 11:34

TBH if it's just to brighten your skin and 'lose the down', then there are much cheaper ways than derma blading. I would remove the down using a facial hair remover then drink a litre of water and go to bed early for a week. Get out in the open air for half an hour every day and jog about (if you are fortunate enough to be mobile). Exercise is brilliant for brightening your skin & if it's raining, so much the better.
I have not had derma blading myself but I once spent two grand on a chemical peel & found out (the expensive way) that I would have been
better off doing the above.

Is there any way to deal with jowls short of a face lift?! I would never have surgery, but is anything else helpful?

I looked pretty decent until recently, when I suddenly spotted my mother (complete with jowls) staring back at me from the mirror. She spent her mature years wearing giant roll neck sweaters to cover up the gravity.

cms1972 · 13/03/2019 13:12

Well if you would 'never have surgery' then you already know what else is helpful - a giant roll neck sweater !!

But really - why wouldn't you have surgery? Is it the cost? Because it's not that expensive. I've done it - I just put it on a credit card (made sure it was interest free) & spent a few years paying it off... I managed the repayments all right, and it was definitely worth it!

SoundofSilence · 13/03/2019 15:07

Has nobody mentioned the white pubic hairs yet? Or is it just me?

When I found the first one, I was mortally offended in a way I have never been by greys on top. White pubes are just... wrong.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 13/03/2019 17:59

Has nobody mentioned the white pubic hairs yet? Or is it just me?

I have no idea what colour mine are because I can't see over my enormous tummy.

Grace212 · 13/03/2019 18:24

I'd never have surgery because I'd never have voluntary surgery!

whatashower · 13/03/2019 18:47

cms1972 sorry you are feeling so shitty but well done on being so proactive and I hope things pick up 💐
I know f* all about you, but I recognise some of what is happening to you as you have described so am daring to ask. Have they checked out your thyroid? I catapulted from 'coping' to 'not coping' and from sub-clinical to fully hypothyroid. Apologies if that is irrelevant for your situation.

cms1972 · 13/03/2019 18:58

Dear whatashower I haven't had my thyroid checked, no... and I know very little about it, despite being a nurse. Are there other symptoms? Such as coarse chin hair, bulging eyeballs etc. It is true I have catapulted from coping to not coping, but I thought I had just got to the end of my nurse rope. Or that it was my hormones. Thank you for the tip, I will look up hyperthyroidism..... even if it's not relevant to me, there's nothing wrong with a bit of clinical revision! And I'm sorry that you have also been having a difficult time.x

whatashower · 13/03/2019 19:45

I'm tickety boo now cms but check out hypo - as opposed to hyper. 👍

scissorsandpen · 13/03/2019 22:35

I mentioned those white monstrosity hairs back in the thread relieved it’s not just me who needs to research dye for down there

poppym12 · 13/03/2019 22:54

This laser hair removal.... Would it work on wiry white hairs? I'd love to get everything zapped off but was told ages ago that I wasn't a good candidate as my hair and skin are too similar in colour.

Hyrana · 14/03/2019 05:02

I'm 57 and the rogue chin hairs are dreadful, but what really gets me are the few snow white huge fuckers in my right eyebrow! They don't hold dye and if I pluck them I have to colour in my eyebrows. Also about 10 years ago I some how found a huge black hair halfway down both my upper arms at the back FFS. I now have to squelch my bingo wings round to see if I can find them and get DH to pluck them for me.
One good thing about growing old though is I don't actually give a shit about what people think of me Smile

Ibiza7 · 15/03/2019 08:26

Had to wear glasses from 43 (50 now), can't run like I used to and found a hair on my neck last week 2" long - whats that all about!?!?!

Blobby10 · 15/03/2019 09:10

I'm 50 this year and have noticed that the prospect of going out for a drink with friends doesn't fill me with excitement like it used to! I don't want to go out when it's dark!

Haven't had the stray hairs yet but yes, I found a white pube not long ago Shock, my eyesight is getting worse, I'm considering a chain to keep my reading glasses around my neck, I can't wear the heeled shoes I could spend all day in only 5 years ago, policemen, doctors and solicitors all look very young and, to top it all, I saw a group of young girls (about 18!) walking in town the other day and caught myself thinking " they should wrap up more, they will catch their death going out like that". Sad I'm there aren't I? I'm officially old!!!

HarrySnotter · 15/03/2019 09:17

I appear to have a bald patch in my pubic hair. Right in the middle. Looks hilarious, thank god I don't give a shit. 😁

Hopelesscase28 · 15/03/2019 10:01

I’m nearly 37 and old.
I have a chronic condition that typically takes 20 years off my lifespan so I’m unlikely to make it much past 60 and I’m glad. Only 23 years of this shit left!

brizzlemint · 15/03/2019 10:39

I found out that I've starting shrinking, dd was measured at school the other day and she's apparently an inch shorter than me even though she's two inches taller. To think that I thought the kitchen cupboards had grown when I could no longer reach the top shelf.
