I am turning forty this year and am having a mild and amusing mid life crisis.
Lots if little things, but the latest is that I've just tried to brush away a stubborn eye brow hair that was lodged just under my eye... It was a wrinkle.
I have also developed joint pain, in my thumb of all places.
Please tell me this is as bad as it gets :o

You know that old age is really on the horizon when you catch yourself groaning every time you bend over! I have been doing it for a very long time!

Shortandsweet96 · 10/03/2019 15:39

Also, I'm 22 for context, I sorted through my underwear draw last weekend and got rid of all my thongs, I've secretly always bloody hated thongs but felt the need to conform to society, but I have now bought some lovely cotton briefs that are the leggings of underwear. I still do own a few Brazilian for special occasions.

I own multiple pairs of spanks, I knit, my favourite shop is home sense, and I cant go more than 3 days without deep cleaning the oven.

I spend all of my spare time on mumsnet looking for sad people like myself.

I love to cook and have finally mastered roast potatoes to the point my family claim.they are better than my mums! Yippee!

I was 40 yesterday!!! It didn’t hurt but I did have the realisation that I am indeed a grown up and this is my circus and these are my monkeys.
Got a few aches and pains but that’s because I had a party last night and wore heels for hours.

I'm 37, I wear the granny pants, I love elasticated jeans, I own 4 day-to-day neck scarfs and I have 'best' crockery for when we have guests. Sigh.

StealthPolarBear · 10/03/2019 15:41

"StephsCaddy

Have you developed an interest in gardening?"
Ha, no. Nor anything crafty.

I’m 38 and grey as a badger.

You know that old wives’ tale that your boobs are saggy if you can hold a pencil under the crease? I can hold the Yellow Pages up under my titties.

Even the fact I’m still referring to the Yellow Pages bloody dates me.

BitOfFun · 10/03/2019 15:43

I'm 45, and I have big knickers, comfy shoes, and an allotment. Couldn't be happier Grin

Frangipane · 10/03/2019 15:44

Thanks @DramaAlpaca. I wondered if maybe my post was a bit too harsh. You and I are the same age. Dh and I were discussing my current woes with VA today and he asked how women in the past would have coped with it, almost as if he thought I was the only woman who had encountered this problem. I told him flatly, 'I suppose they suffered in silence'. It is an awful thought.

Shortandsweet96 · 10/03/2019 15:44

@piglet89 I'm with you on the yellow pages (the old big book not the new 5 pages of A4 folders over), but I'm 23 in June so I think your actually doing quite well!

Jellyonawonkyplate · 10/03/2019 15:45

Catherine which channel was the Queen Mother documentary on please? Blush mid thirties

Navratilover · 10/03/2019 15:46

50 this year. I haven't had a period in 6 months and all my anxiety has melted away. It's fucking ace.

Something for you to look forward to Grin.

Yabbers · 10/03/2019 15:46

I was 45 yesterday. Thinning hair, aching joints, failing eyesight. Grey hairs appearing every day.

Warmhandscoldheart · 10/03/2019 15:47

😂😂

Piglet89 · 10/03/2019 15:48

@shortandsweet96 😂 thanks for that clarification.

Also realised I’m actually not quite 38 yet, which makes me simultaneously happy that I am slightly younger than I thought and sad that I can’t remember what age I am.

CatherineofTarragon1 · 10/03/2019 15:48

@Jellyonawonkyplate Ch 5. It will be on avail on Catch up now .......2nd part next Sat at 9pm.... she was one hard core woman! Enjoy ! 😂

StealthPolarBear · 10/03/2019 15:50

But my periods don't really bother me and I don't have anxiety. The wrinkles on the other hand

I am in my 50s, I have to do a regular chin inspection for chin hair, had to buy a special mirror. Yesterday I plucked (after a fight, it put up much resistance) a hair that was at least an inch and a half. It seemed to grow overnight...at least I hope so, otherwise I have been walking around oblivious. The hair disappears from legs but it appears as rogue hair in brows and chin. You have that to look forward to.

Jellyonawonkyplate · 10/03/2019 15:54

CatherineofTarragon1 ah do hope it's on catch up. Thank you! Grin There's been some cracking docs on sat night channel 5 recently.

StealthPolarBear · 10/03/2019 15:54

Oh yes rogur chin hairs are getting more frequent. They are blonde though so hard to see. So satisfying to pluck

SimoneStrasser · 10/03/2019 15:56

Come on OP, 40 is not worthy of a mid life crisisGrin.

I’m 50; feel and look terrific ( well I think so anyway) , look after yourself and enjoy life, cheesey but true!

EstuaryBird · 10/03/2019 15:56

I’m 64......you don’t know the half of it yet!

Seriously, not that bad. Just keep thinking young and keep doing the things you enjoy for as long as you can. I still camp at festivals, go to gigs, go on cruises and run a Cub Pack.

Use it or lose it x

CatherineofTarragon1 · 10/03/2019 15:59

Jellyonawonkyplate last week 5Select had a whole week of documentaries devoted to the Tudors ( of which I am clearly one). 9pm without fail I was sat there with my knitting needles and a bar of Bournville dark chocolate. Who says being over 40 is a dead ting!

labazsisgoingmad · 10/03/2019 16:01

im 55 this year am fighting a losing battle with the hairs on my chin; i have to constantly dye my hair as the grey keeps coming through; i dont entertain any shoes unless the word comfort is included; elastic waists are very welcome indeed; my idea of a wild night is stopping up after 8 o clock i prefer early bed with a good library book; my pants are getting bigger the older i get and night cosy nighties are doing it for me

LadyOfTheCanyon · 10/03/2019 16:03

Ha! I'm almost 49 and wear contacts for shortsightedness. Now that's no longer enough and I have to put reading glasses on to see my phone.
