British IS girl has had her baby

BrizzleMint · 17/02/2019 17:55

She's had her baby - a son.

Cabinet minister Jeremy Wright told BBC's Andrew Marr programme that the baby's nationality was "not straightforward".

The culture secretary, who was previously attorney general, said the first priority was establishing the health of her and her baby.

I’d like the word grooming to be reserved for the process seen in sexual exploitation. It feels highly inappropriate, offensive even, to conflate it with persuading people drawn to an ideology, in this case a very violent one, to take the next step and actively support it.

SomethingOnce · 20/02/2019 17:02

Who groomed Thompson and Venables to kill Bulger?

If you misuse language it ceases to be useful.

SinkGirl · 20/02/2019 17:03

I am a victim of childhood sexual abuse and grooming myself. Grooming has never been exclusively defined as that. Grooming is frequently used in relation to the behaviour of terrorist organisations by experts and the state.

SinkGirl · 20/02/2019 17:03

How am I misusing it? You are misusing it.

Asta19 · 20/02/2019 17:05

How many kids were killed in Manchester? And what did she say about it? Oh yes, it was justified in her eyes. She may not have killed them by her own hand but she supports the people that did. The same people who buried Yazidi women and children alive. But again, according to her that was ok. She may not have wielded any weapons but she has blood on her hands the same as any other member of ISIS.

SinkGirl · 20/02/2019 17:07

What would you say to the international press if you were 19, heavily pregnant, having buried two children and still in danger? Would you be condemning them in that situation?

SinkGirl · 20/02/2019 17:08

If she has committed crimes then we have a legal system designed to assess and convict on the basis of those crimes. What is the point of our criminal justice system otherwise?

Asta19 · 20/02/2019 17:14

Well we seemingly do not have a legal system able to deal with crimes committed far away in a Caliphate! That's the issue.

Oh and if I was in her situation (and I was under threat) I just wouldn't have given the interviews in the first place.

TrixieFranklin · 20/02/2019 17:38

Oh god the video of her finding out about having her citizenship revoked today is even worse - she just doesn't care she said her parents had to get over it, and the reporter who has met with them said that they aren't over it and she ruined their lives and she just shrugged it off. She doesn't care. She said she will probably have to go to Holland where her husband is from and he will go 'back' to prison there and she will wait for him Hmm
She gives 0 fucks.

TrixieFranklin · 20/02/2019 17:39

Oh and the Home Secretary should have more sympathy from her!

Mississippilessly · 20/02/2019 18:02

I'm really struggling to believe that baby is hers. He cried and she didnt even flinch, allegedly less than 24 hrs after she gave birth...

SomethingOnce · 20/02/2019 18:03

How am I misusing it? You are misusing it.

Thompson and Venables had life experiences that undoubtedly contributed, but I’ve never heard anyone suggest they were groomed into committing their crimes. Have you? Why are you using groomed in relation to them?

SomethingOnce · 20/02/2019 18:04

She appears to think an audience with Mr Javid was in order.

Newbuild · 20/02/2019 18:09

Did the baby have his face covered in the video? I’m curious if this is all about the baby not being raised in a camp, why she hasn’t asked for her family to take him.

Thymeout · 20/02/2019 18:09

SinkGirl She was only underage by a few weeks. She was 15 when she left in December and 19 now. The 2 girls with her were 16. Were they really so different? All Yr 11s. Yes, her age is important as a legal cut-off but not really relevant when it comes to judging her actions. The Yr 11s I taught would have been insulted if I'd referred to them as children.

Re - whether it's really her baby. I think her body language is really odd. Why isn't she holding him? Why doesn't she ever look at him? Even when the reporter specifically asked her about him, she didn't even glance in his direction. She may not have bonded properly, which is understandable in the circumstances, or it may be a personality disorder of some kind. She obviously doesn't give a damn about her mother/uncle.

TrixieFranklin · 20/02/2019 18:13

The baby was covered up with clothing completely covering is face in the new interview but she did remove it for a second when the baby moved and looked at him. The press have screenshotted that moment and put his picture up which I think is probably irresponsible as the child could be at risk.

Mississippilessly · 20/02/2019 18:13

She doesn't even look at him.
Maybe it is that she is that damaged.
Or maybe it's all bullshit. Because 24 hrs after she emerged saying she was 'heavily pregnant' - without any photos or evidence - suddenly there is a baby.

TrixieFranklin · 20/02/2019 18:19

The interview on YouTube

ineedaknittedhat · 20/02/2019 18:28

She's named the baby after an islamic war lord apparently.

BrizzleMint · 20/02/2019 18:31

I think it's probably impossible for her not to be traumatised by what she has put herself through. I'm torn between thinking she is cold and evil and thinking that she is damaged and needs support.

I can't see the Netherlands wanting to take her in and I can't see how she'd cope in Bangladesh when she has never even been there.

She's really screwed up her life and I can't see much future for her, especially she stays where she is as IS are presumably not that pleased with her right now.

Names really don't mean much, do they. It's the media pitting two religions against each other

peridito · 20/02/2019 19:44

To me her whole demeanour is that of a very depressed person ,she acts like someone divorced from reality and without hope .

She doesn't show emotion ,her tone is flat ,she doesn't look at her baby ,she seems to not know how to answer questions put to her .She's certainly not answering them in a way designed to help her get out of her situation . Maybe she's aware that her answers will be scrutinised by the fellow ISIS supporters that surround her .

She does seem totally infected by the propoganda that has been her life for the last 4 years .

CameliaCamelia · 20/02/2019 20:04

Ohhh madcat are you calling Jihadism a religion??

CameliaCamelia · 20/02/2019 20:05

In that interview she indicated she has a future with her husband.....yeah love, you'll be wanting to bring him over to the UK too Eh?

Jog on!

MadCatEnthusiast · 20/02/2019 22:16

Camelia Hardly. She'll just always be seen as Muslim despite the rest of 1.5 billion being reasonable people. And as you know, Muslims are pitted against Jews anyways and vice versa anyway

Besides, border security would never let him into the UK because of his 6 year terrorism charge. What's the worry? As far as NL are concerned, they won't help him out of that detention camp.
