I was watching and old episode of Bruce’s price is right on this morning and saw an old work colleague...I texted her and she confirmed it, even though it was nearly 20 years ago...

Have you or anyone you know been on a TV show? And what game show would you love to be a contestant on?

My boyfriend has been on pointless with his dad and one of my old neighbours was on Trisha ( remember that talk show!!)

I would loooove to go on to the chase!

DS was on Something Special 10 or so years ago.

DH was on crimewatch!

JumpersForGoalposts · 02/02/2019 22:35

I was on University Challenge in the 90s. Great experience! Smile

Ooh,I forgot our street was in a Money Supermarket advert (the one with the cats running down the street - that was my street). The crew were lovely, gave me a hand getting my twin babies into the car (which was parked further down the road than usual as they'd asked us to leave our bit clear) and at the end gave us and our neighbours each a crate of beer to say sorry for the bother.

My daughter has appeared on good morning britain when they did a segment on the popularity of Frozen (I was in the background)

My old boss has appeared on Pointless (won the trophy but no money) and Eggheads (did not win)

Another friend has appeared on an old Simon Mayo Lottery programme and a work colleague on Who wants to be a millionaire

IWantToBeNynaeve · 02/02/2019 22:41

My friends brother is an Egghead.
My mum was on an Irish daytime talk show taking about a book she wrote.
My ds1 was on a quiz game programme for school kids here in Ireland (I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember the name!)

Pinkiii · 02/02/2019 22:45

I was once very good friends with someone who came 2nd on big brother.

He could have made a lot of money from his stint but he turned down many opportunties after as he wasnt interested in that and he remained level headed and decent still

NoIAmSpartacus · 02/02/2019 22:46

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon Time Team! My mum worked on that

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/02/2019 22:46

My DF won on that Anne Robinson show. £7k which was great as she's a single parent Smile

Accountant222 · 02/02/2019 23:00

My friend Chris was on Jim'll Fix It, her and her cousin met Paul Nicholas. She said Jim was a strange creep before he'd died and the truth came out.

I saw an old edition of Crystal Maze and thought I recognised my dentist but I' m not brave enough to ask in case its not him and then I'll feel a fool! My first name and my comments was mentioned on the Sat morning points of view on BBC news last year. I spotted some old neighbours on a n e programme and it made me laugh that they made out what a tight knit family they were (they really weren't!)

Linnet · 02/02/2019 23:18

My old neighbour was on Family Fortunes back in the 80’s, they won too 😁

SybillaB · 02/02/2019 23:19

I was on Countdown in 2008. I was up against a vicar who was on his third round and I came second! I scored 53 so wasn’t a complete disaster. Des O’Connor was in charge and Carol Vorderman was still doing the letters and numbers. Both were very friendly.

Walnutwhipster · 02/02/2019 23:33

I know a household name you can find him on at least once a day, most famously every bloody Saturday morning for years. I've also had friends on Come dine with me, Weakest Link, The Chase, Dickinson's RD (only a couple of weeks ago) and my favourite Supermarket Sweep, plus many more. Four people I know well (my BIL's two sisters and a couple I've known since childhood) were on episodes of Jeremy Kyle. I have absolutely no idea why anyone would ever want to go on there. The two sisters didn't even sit down before JK laid into them for getting hammered in the taxi on the way to the studio and the couple were there to be out and proud about being swingers and her having slept with 1,000 partners.

Ifangyow · 03/02/2019 03:33

Yes, my sister. We used to have a game show in Germany which was a bit like strip poker. This was prior to the internet etc. There would be a few couples. The man would answer the questions, but if he got an answer wrong, his wife would remove an item of her clothing till it was all off. The winner was the one with the most clothes remaining. I think she was around contestant three to lose her entire clothing.
It was a popular show.

poundoflard · 03/02/2019 08:19

I was at the filming of Jim'll fix it at a relatives house. He really was a strange fellow.

Also a friend was on One Born every minute. I saw more of her than I really needed to, iyswim !

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 03/02/2019 08:42

Ledehe yes Henry VIIItg...he done good, we were £8k richer for a while. Grin

TaMereAPoilDevantPrisu · 03/02/2019 09:03

My DH used to be on TV every day. There are loads of videos of him on Youtube with dodgy early 90s hair and clothes, we watch them every once in a while for a laugh.

6demandingchildren · 03/02/2019 09:06

I have been on our local and national news.
I was portrayed on 999
My cousin was in Grange hill and EastEnders and many other shows.
One of my oldest friends is in plenty of adverts very recently
A family friend was on come dine with me.
Husband's old girlfriend from school was on Trisha.
And probably loads I have forgotten.

morningconstitutional2017 · 03/02/2019 10:00

My younger brother was on '15 to 1' ages ago when William G Stewart hosted - he won and got onto the leader board but eventually dropped down the table. No money involved.

I recently auditioned for 'The Chase' and put on the long list and may get picked - it could be two years before I get on a show - or never.

The advice is to keep on applying - one day you may get lucky.

We love our quizzes.

Tutulafromage · 03/02/2019 10:04

Well guess who has just applied for The Chase AND Tipping point !?

Me in the audience at Ronnie Scott's on Arena arts programme, way back in 70s
DH on 15 to 1 twice including the daily final
DS an extra in Hinterland and on a Spanish news programme about schools.

HarrySnotter · 03/02/2019 10:18

My friend was on Come Dine With Me and won it.

PolaDeVeboise · 03/02/2019 10:27

I was on an E4 program called 'Fanorama' @ 20 years ago. It pitted fans of one thing against fans of another. We lost Grin. However, they gave us the prize anyway (merch of our idol).

MelanieCheeks · 03/02/2019 10:52

I've been on The Weakest Link. Back in its heyday when it was an evening show with a live audience! Got to the final 2.....but left with nothing.

Actually that's not quite true - the girl who won was really sweet, and gave me a cheque for £500 from her winnings.

emilybrontescorsett · 03/02/2019 11:08

I know someone who has been on lots of quiz shows including who wants to be a millionnaire, 15 to 1 and others.
I was at school with someone who was in the film Brassed Off.
My drama teacher left and became a famous play write. He has written plays which have been on tv and episodes of Grange Hill, Brookside. He was a fantastic teacher too.
Apparently someone at work was on How clean is your house? but nobody dare mention it to them!
