I was watching and old episode of Bruce’s price is right on this morning and saw an old work colleague...I texted her and she confirmed it, even though it was nearly 20 years ago...

Have you or anyone you know been on a TV show? And what game show would you love to be a contestant on?

My boyfriend has been on pointless with his dad and one of my old neighbours was on Trisha ( remember that talk show!!)

I would loooove to go on to the chase!

I was a contestant on Finders Keepers as a kid (yes, I am old).

MitziK · 02/02/2019 18:17

Various people I know have been on things like CDWM, Four in a Bed and the Crystal Maze - all of them are lovely people. Some that have been involved in campaigns of varying kinds - all lovely, even when I don't necessarily agree with their viewpoint.

One is more of a 'reality TV' sort of person (in the This is The Weirdo For You To Laugh At vein). Can't stand them, they are a manipulative, whining, aggressive ratbag. They've hefted up on a BGT audition round, one of the tattoo programmes (should have been Fixers, as their tattoos are shit and they have non existent personal hygiene standards, but no) and lots of things about sexuality/gender identity. Every version of themselves that they've presented has been complete fucking lies. Especially the sexuality/gender identity - they just say whatever is wanted to get them onto telly again - and the jokes about what a parent said on one segment were a bit much when the parent concerned had been dead for 20 years at that point, so would have found it pretty bloody hard to say anything.

And I worked with one who had been a soap opera kid. Who was a complete twat with 'hayfever' that only manifested itself shortly after a phone call followed by a trip off premises whilst on duty and was characterised by becoming extremely belligerent in between sniffs. They could do no wrong in the eyes of the boss and 2nd in command, though, because they had been on telly, so were wonderful.

My neighbour was on Britain’s Benefit Tenants - rock and roll.....

Another Pointless player here, with DD1 who organised the whole thing. Knocked out in head to head in 1st one (very lucky with early questions - no sport! - & got a pointless answer Smile) & in round 2 in 2nd one.

Jackpot was £8-9000 so we were disappointed not to have a crack at it.

Otterses · 02/02/2019 18:21

MIL was on Cash Trapped. She was absolutely vulgar Grin glad she didn't win. She didn't deserve it.

MoggEatMoggWorld · 02/02/2019 18:22

AgeBeforeBeauty the application process was ok actually - filled in a form and emailed it off, then I think a couple of phone interviews (both about myself, hobbies, personality etc and also testing knowledge with practice questions).

Then I got given an option of cities to go to for an in-person audition which included team-building type activities, talking about yourself in a group and a practice at questions with buzzers.

Think we found out at the end of that day if we were in or not. And then they contact you about getting your date and then getting trains sorted, telling you to bring different outfits etc.

I had to get a train to Elstree and then was picked up in a car and we picked up the others from a hotel (they weren't close enough to travel on the day). I think we got to the studio about 10am, had an hourish of pep talks, practice and tips from the producer type people and then got sent to our "dressing rooms" to change into the clothes which they have freshly ironed for you! Also a chance to have your hair/makeup freshened up and then chill out until we were called onto the stage.

I think the filming took a few hours start to finish - it was hot in the studio but couldn't drink too much as going to the loo wasn't an option! We got introduced to Bradley, had all rules explained etc etc. But once we got going it did fly by. Was incredibly elated when we won, actually couldn't believe it.

I was in a three-person final and we had £20k to share. It was a bloody great day.

Sorry that was so long Blush

Otterses · 02/02/2019 18:22

And my teenage boyfriend was on Worlds Strictest Parents.

AlbusPercival · 02/02/2019 18:25

DH was on the first series of debatable. He was puppy to Patrick Kielty and super mean to Nigel Havers.

Biggins helped him win 1k which was handy as I was pg with DS

MoggEatMoggWorld · 02/02/2019 18:33

@beachbodyunready High five! I’ll raise a glass to us supreme beings WineWink

CowesTwo · 02/02/2019 18:33

Way back in the 80s, I was a contestant on a game show called Bob's Full House.

zebakrheum · 02/02/2019 18:36

A friend of a friend used to be a traffic cop, and he was on several episodes of one of those police, camera, action-type programmes where they chase stolen cars in high-speed pursuits.

They used to catch them sometimes. Does that count? Grin

Tyke2 · 02/02/2019 18:40

Auditioned for the "shane Richie Experience" th eon ewhee th ewinning couple each week got married. We were selected but turned it down as we started to get an inkling how tacky it was ging to be. The first whow a couple won who auditioned with us. But It was very tacky and only lasted one series.

AgeBeforeBeauty · 02/02/2019 18:40

Thanks Mogg, sounds like it was a tough process but well done on winning! Can't imagine I would cope under the time pressure ....

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 02/02/2019 18:44

Mog my hubby did the same process. He filmed in November 2017 and it was finally shown last week. He and another team member got £10k each in the cash builder and a third person got £5k.

They were up against Paul Sinha and they won.

After it was shown I did send a message of thanks to Paul for "a rare bad day at the office" as we'd had a fan holiday last year.

He messaged hubby and suggested he join a quiz league.

Angelil · 02/02/2019 18:45

Someone I went to school with was on Deal or No Deal and won a decent amount of money (and at quite a young age too). A lovely person who really deserved to win.

I was a big fan of the show and would have loved to be a contestant, but only ever got as far as being in the audience a few times. The crew make you do a few poses before the show starts (e.g. look happy, look like you are waiting in suspense, look disappointed etc) so they don't have to zoom in on the audience at crucial moments; the closeups you see were probably filmed before the show started.
Plus, of course, filming takes way longer than what is actually screened and a lot of good jokes are often cut out (usually the filthy ones :p ).

I'd love to be on Countdown, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, The 10k Drop, Tipping Point...I do love my game shows :p

Cheetahssitonfajitas · 02/02/2019 18:49

I chose Tipping Point because a) the questions are super easy. And b) I was drunk and broke at the time of applying. I almost backed out, thinking I'd best not make a dick out of myself on TV, but I'm bloody glad I didn't. I did look and sound like a prat (my friends were merciless Grin) but I'll take that for that money, thanks!
Side note- Ben Shepperd smells lovely.

ssd · 02/02/2019 18:52

@RevolvingBananaHaiku OMG your poor friend, what an awful thing to have happened but sounds like she was lucky it wasnt worse. I hope she makes a full recovery.

riotlady · 02/02/2019 18:54

My friend and her mum were on pointless, they didn’t win.

My cousin is an actress so she’s been in some minor dramas and an advert. She’s very good and she’s only 24 so I’d like to think I’ll see her in more stuff in the future.

SallyCinnamon86 · 02/02/2019 18:56

DD2 was on the greatest dancer a couple of weeks ago, DD1 has been on newsround again for dancing 😊

LadyCassandra · 02/02/2019 18:56

I was on an episode of Kill It Cook It Eat It. I had lots of profound things to say but I obviously don’t come across well on camera as it was all cut! 😂😂

Drogosnextwife · 02/02/2019 18:59

Yes my dp and g is family but I can't say what it is because a lot of people would be able to guess who they were and it's quite embarrassing 😂

BikeRunSki · 02/02/2019 19:00

I work with someone who used to be a geophysicist and was in The Time Team. My colleagues get interviews in local news quite often.

I hace a friend who Dies quite a bit of work as an extra, but it’s always s surprise to see her on TV.

toomuchtooold · 02/02/2019 19:01

I knew someone who was on Big Brother. It was funny - in real life he was the loudest and most self-obsessed person I know, but on the programme he was totally overshadowed and came across as just really laid back and quite quiet. Where the hell do they get those people?

CharlieBubbles88 · 02/02/2019 19:02

My Mum was on Kilroy when I was very young. I'm not 100% sure what it was about but she worked for Ann Summers at the time and I think they had just bought out a Karma Sutra style video.

My dad was on it's a knock out a few times. He was very proud of that so we played the theme tune as the entrance music at his funeral!

The best man at their wedding has been on countless game shows. He actually had to go to court as he went on 15 to 1 a second time in disguise.

"For his winning appearance, Mr Montague slicked back his hair, wore gold earrings and played under the name Steve Romara. "

Tutulafromage · 02/02/2019 19:03

@Madreb ah deal or no deal was the best! I always wondered how long the contestants were there waiting to be picked...some seemed like they were there for 20+ shows
