I am watching Clue for the first time. Tim curry is amazing in it. Its made me proper laugh out loud a couple of times.
What other old films have been forgotten that I might enjoy? I need some light watching :-)

Another Aussie film that I adored was The Dish. So good!

Oh and one that no one ever seems to have watched and I found mesmerising was The Prestige. Bonkers but amazing.

KissingInTheRain · 25/01/2019 22:19

Of Aussie films The Odd Angry Shot is a forgotten gem.

I'm adding some more as I think of them, various genres so some might float your boat while others won't but perhaps someone will enjoy them.

The Legend of 1900
Immortal Beloved
Dog Day Afternoon
Fright Night
Gridlock'd
The Laramie Project
Afterlife(2003)
This Beautiful Fantastic
Mrs Palfrey at The Claremont

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ve just ordered 12 of these films from Amazon and can’t wait to start watching them!

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 25/01/2019 22:32

Boyhood is another good one, with Ethan hawke and Patricia arquette filmed over 12 years. Very inspiring.
Pay it forward with Kevin spacey and Haley Joel osment..

Mad Hot Ballroom is a wonderful documentary about NYC school children learning ballroom dance.

Dark City - Epic Sci-fi film starring Keifer Sutherland and Richard O Brien. I love it so so much and I've never met anyone else who has watched it.

A town called panic - amazing stop motion film, I adore it so much.

Hercules -Disney animation that seems to have been mainly forgotten but it is brilliant (see also The Emporers New Groove)

The Slipper and the Rose - it's just everything.

Awrite · 25/01/2019 22:51

Children of Men. PD James's dystopian tale. Clive Owen is swoonsome in it. I've watched it many, many times.

Awrite · 25/01/2019 22:54

A good foreign language film is Raise the Red Lanterns. Set in 19th or early 20th century China. Young woman becomes rich man's 4th wife. Hauntingly beautiful.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 25/01/2019 23:03

Eurotrip! I know I know, you think it's going to be like those Road Trip spin offs, the crap American Pie spin offs.... but it's so good. The French robot dance battle, the Manchester United song, the song that follows them round Europe (Matt Damon cameo), "It's the new Pope!" Club Vandersexxx, good silly fun.

(Wanders off singing "Scotty doesn't know, that Fiona and me do it in my van every Sunday...")

VittysCardigan · 25/01/2019 23:07

Wind in the willows - the version with Steve Coogan. Cannot find this on dvd Angry the foxes & weasels absolutely crack me up

Angelicwings · 25/01/2019 23:10

Davethecat Dogs in Space is amazing! Good - no, great call!! I taped it off tv in something like 1990! I now have a copy on DVD! (although, haven't watched it yet, saving for a special occasion but there's been no such occasion worth opening it for).

VittysCardigan · 25/01/2019 23:11

Just found it on Ebay! Only £5.

DianaT1969 · 25/01/2019 23:12

Superbob - low budget film set in South London

DianaT1969 · 25/01/2019 23:14

Fried green tomatoes at the whistlestop cafe

Angelicwings · 25/01/2019 23:15

Dancin' Thru The Dark. Now this is one top film, set (and made) in 1989 Liverpool, written by Willy Russell. YES the outfits are terrible 80s ones as you would expect but oh my goodness, the romance! The chemistry between the two main characters! It is utterly swoonworthy. It went well under the radar, it should be an absolute classic but if you can ignore laughing at the outfits and just enjoy the film it's delightful. And the ending... I never (I mean never) get tired of seeing it. If you haven't seen it and gritty/romantic northern dramas are your thing (Educating Rita, Shirley Valentine etc) then it's a must-see.

DianaT1969 · 25/01/2019 23:16

The British version of Death at a Funeral

DianaT1969 · 25/01/2019 23:18

Turkish film - Eskiya

WonkyDonk87 · 25/01/2019 23:19

Four Lions. My second favourite film of all time, manages to make me howl with laughter and weep all in the space of one film.

findingmyfeet12 · 25/01/2019 23:19

I don't know if anyone's mentioned Exorcist 2 The Heretic. It's supposed to be the worst film ever made yet it's beautifully shot and quite thought provoking.

lightlypoached · 25/01/2019 23:19

Little miss sunshine. About an ordinary little girl and her 'interesting' family travelling across the USA for a kids beauty pageant.
Funny, sad, brilliant acting, bonkers plot and one of the most cringey funniest comedy scenes ever.

Loved it.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 25/01/2019 23:20

Everything is Illuminated

Both funny and poignant. Complete with a seeing eye dog, Sammy Davis Jr Jr
