I am watching Clue for the first time. Tim curry is amazing in it. Its made me proper laugh out loud a couple of times.
What other old films have been forgotten that I might enjoy? I need some light watching :-)

OP posts:

Scent Of A Woman and Danny Collins. Both Al Pacino at his best.
Dear Frankie. A beautiful film starring Gérard Butler before he was famous and Emily Blunt. (tissues needed!)

Unescorted · 25/01/2019 21:14

YY to Malcom. I can never look at a pedal waste bin the same.
Goodbye Lenin - awesome
The Castle is so funny.

Also - Once Were Warriors. Difficult viewing but a great film.

Elderflower14 · 25/01/2019 21:17

OMG Bridge to Terabitha is heartbreaking... Really upset ds2 and I when we watched it. Another film with Anna Sophia Robb is Because Of Winn Dixie.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/01/2019 21:23

Jack and Sarah . Never on tv , ever . As soon as I find it it’s going on my sky box and never coming off .

BringMeTea · 25/01/2019 21:31

Heavenly Creatures. Kate Winslet's break out film.
HaroldsBluetits I loved Un Coeur en Hiver. I had such a crush on Isabelle Adjani.

BartonHollow · 25/01/2019 21:34

I'm going to keep adding underrated films when I think of them

Just thought of

Kings Of Summer

Teen boys coming of age, beautiful film

Raspberry88 · 25/01/2019 21:36

Also- Les choristes. French film. One of my absolute favourites.

Omg...I'd completely forgotten about that film, absolutely beautiful.

adaisy1394 · 25/01/2019 21:38

Just seen the upside in the cinema, the IMDB review is sub 50% and the cinema was empty but it was great!!!

BartonHollow · 25/01/2019 21:38

Oh God, can't believe I forgot this one!

CAPTAIN FANTASTIC

Viggo Mortensen got an Oscar Nom for it that year and Jimmy Kimmel joked that no one had heard of it/seen it

Will make you cry. Will probably make you cry even more if you are a parent.

Amazing film.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 25/01/2019 21:41

The Castle, a fantastically odd Aussie film. It's the vibe.

I was introduced to "Crackerjack" at the same time: 44 two fat whores.

Mine are Pushing Tin - John Cusack (swoon) again. A dark comedy about air traffic controllers. Obviously.

But the most underrated film ever (drum roll) ... Grease 2.

VittysCardigan · 25/01/2019 21:42

Plomino Baby in a jiffy bag with a sock for a hat Grin
I bought it on dvd a couple of years back when i knew i was going to be laid up for a few days.

XingMing · 25/01/2019 21:43

Fascinating thread, but it's becoming obvious I belong to an older generation. I was about to suggest Trouble in Mind, and then read Genevieve Bujold's listing and realised she is 76, which is older than me! Good movie, regardless.

And no mention of independent movies from the 1970s, which arguably was the high point of English language indie film making.

MawkishTwaddle · 25/01/2019 21:44

Once
Begin Again
Rudderless

All on Netflix, all amazing.

DappledThings · 25/01/2019 21:46

@DontCallMeCharlotte

I love Grease 2! 22 years ago when I was in the Sixth Form my friends and I were all obsessed with it. One of them got the soundtrack from HMV and it had to be ordered from America.

The best rhyming lines in any musical - "Who's that guy? The one on the cycle.
What would they say if they knew it was Michael?"

DoubleNegativePanda · 25/01/2019 21:50

American Dreamer. It's a great 1980s story of mystery, amnesia and romance.

captainpantbeard · 25/01/2019 21:51

I loved the castle. 'Tell him he's dreaming' is one of my sayings but no one ever gets it

Me too! Except I have one friend who gets it Smile

Ivegotnothing · 25/01/2019 21:55

I love Strictly Ballroom!
Little Miss Sunshine....such a feel good, funny film.
The Lives of Others...subtitled, but such a good film.
Enemy at the Gates...early Jude Law and one of his best.

PrivateParkin · 25/01/2019 21:55

Grouchy (hi) I was just coming on here to say The Castle! Love that film. I had an Aussie housemate who loved it and bought a copy for me back in the day.

I also think In Her Shoes is really underrated. Such a great cast (Toni Collette, Cameron Diaz, Shirley McLaine) and a warm, funny storyline that doesn't veer into (too) cheesy - love it.

KissingInTheRain · 25/01/2019 21:55

I always think There’s Something About Mary is under-appreciated.

And Love Potion No. 9.

Bluestitch · 25/01/2019 22:00

God's Own Country- I'd never heard of it until I came across it on Netflix, it's a gorgeous masterpiece.

The Duff- another one I stumbled across on Netflix, really funny and reminds me of fab high school films from the 90s like She's All That, 10 Things I Hate About You.

libertywoo · 25/01/2019 22:00

Withnail and I (just love Richard E Grant)
The Man without a Face (surprisingly good for Mel Gibson)
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion ( love, love, love the dance at the end)

FrenchyQ · 25/01/2019 22:03

Another one for Strictly Ballroom
The way way back
Movie 43

BringMeTea · 25/01/2019 22:05

Oh yes! Romy and Michele's High School Reunion is fabulous.
