I love the name Winter but I feel it's a bit more "out there" than Summer or Autumn so I'm not brave enough to use it Blush Plus it would sound awful in the country I live in.

I also love Rocco but that was vetoed by DH!

What unusual baby names were you not quite brave enough to use?

I work in a team with three named people in this thread!

My new nephew is called Jack. Surname Frost. 😳

SPARKS17 · 10/01/2019 05:10

Octavia and Olympia were very close contenders but we vetoed them when DD was born as we didn’t love the nicknames coming from them, Limpy in particular sprang to mind!

The name we went with is on this thread. Interestingly a lot of the babies I’ve met have had more out there names, there seems to be a move away from popular top 10 names in recent years.

Antiquevintageandrusty · 10/01/2019 05:12

Thalia here, it wasn’t quite right.

I know a Holly, surname Winter, have always loved her name.

Holla Jack Frost Grin

babyboyHarrison · 10/01/2019 07:50

Malachi, I remember it from a book with a magic bumblebee from when I was a child and I've always liked it.

tryingtosortmylifeout · 10/01/2019 08:04

Pearl for a girl (that rhymes!) I love the name, but would worry that if she wanted to do a “serious” job, like a corporate lawyer or prime minister or something, then it would sound a bit inappropriate and could therefore be quite limiting.

whatswithtodaytoday · 10/01/2019 08:06

@challengeyourreality Grin Oh dear, poor kid. That's not quite what the name brings to mind!

tryingtosortmylifeout · 10/01/2019 08:08

Have 1 DS. DH vetoed Gabriel & also Dorothy & Ursula for a girl.

I love all those names @luckylavender! Grin

Mesmeri · 10/01/2019 08:11

I always said if I had twins they would be Setra and Scania, regardless of gender (I used to be a coach driver). Luckily, I didn't have twins.

Proseccoagain · 10/01/2019 09:20

And a distant relative has named her youngest Persephone.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/01/2019 09:22

@AgathaMisty I met a child called Winter. It would have been fine had he not had a surname that was also a common first name. It caused terrible confusion. I've also met a Holly Wood.

BlackInk · 10/01/2019 10:13

I loved Felix for a boy, and also Hani (means happy in Arabic). I also liked Faysal (again Arabic - I have no Arabic links).
For a girl I liked Suki, Shula and Loveness - I saw an African lady on the news who had a tiny sick baby called Loveness and have never forgotten it.

Birdsgottafly · 10/01/2019 10:47

I might have used Hector if I had a boy, it was my Fils and a Family name.

My DDs have less common names and it hasn't done them any harm. My DD is a Manager at work and has been remembered partly because of her name. So is my youngest. She's been the only one throughout school/college/work and it isn't too try hard or 'chavy' (hate that word).

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 10/01/2019 12:22

If I had been born a boy I would have been called Stratford, Strattie for short. I am sooooo thankful I was born a girl. So, so, so, so, so thankful.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 10/01/2019 13:46

Aneurin. We have no Welsh roots, so felt a bit like cultural appropriation.
Costadinos with Costas for short, but would have been ridiculous with our surname.

We did use a name that has appeared on this thread though. People have been positive about it, except for MIL who says it's very old fashioned.

hlc123 · 10/01/2019 14:39

Athena
Liberty

Cole
Elias

Mookatron · 10/01/2019 14:41

Hypatia. And Minerva.

Oldraver · 10/01/2019 14:41

Farley for a boy.

Though realised most people would associate it with rusks....than my favourite dj

Iblinkedandiamold · 10/01/2019 14:47

All boys names
Jesse James
Tyler
Dallas.

Not sure why I didn't pick Tyler. I suppose it was very American at the time.

My girls names were more boring but lovely names. Grin

juneau · 10/01/2019 14:54

Saul is cool (it's Slash's real name).

I had lots of funky name ideas, all of which my DH guffawed with laughter at, or just pulled a face, or sometimes said 'No son of mine is being called that'.

I always wanted a son called Elliott, like the boy in ET, but it wasn't to be. Our two DSs have very normal names, but they have cool nicknames that they're always known by. DS1 didn't even know it wasn't his real name until he was 3! Our girl name for DS1 was Carys, which my DM hated. I liked Felix too (but it IS a cat name), Benedict, Avery, Sebastian, Gabriel .. all pooh-poohed by DH.

Camomila · 10/01/2019 14:59

I only have a DS so far but for DDs

Astrid
Artemis

I could get away with Aurelia though as its Latin

scrivette · 10/01/2019 15:07

Astrid is a lovely name and I have heard of a couple lately.

Nala8 · 10/01/2019 15:07

Phoenix

BadBadBeans · 10/01/2019 15:08

Leofric. Pronounced Lay-oh-fritch. After watching that BBC Viking drama! DH and I both loved it but we just could not do it to DS.
