Share your baby names that you weren't quite brave enough to use!

I love the name Winter but I feel it's a bit more "out there" than Summer or Autumn so I'm not brave enough to use it Blush Plus it would sound awful in the country I live in.

I also love Rocco but that was vetoed by DH!

What unusual baby names were you not quite brave enough to use?

I was going to name DC Aspen if it was a girl but ended up with a DS instead. However, I'm American and nobody would've batted an eye at that name now that I'm back in North America. If I'd stayed in the UK I would've expected a lot of Hmm faces though.

comebacksoonsusan · 09/01/2019 16:02

I thought about Cosmo, perhaps a bit too much for me.

I lightly considered Persephone and Ophelia.

TheLovelyOtherDinosaur · 09/01/2019 16:03

Xanthe is pronounced Zanthee generally

Faris, Isambard and Cornelius for DS
I didn't really have any out there ideas for DD though.

happytobemrsg · 09/01/2019 16:04

Xanthe is mine too!

Sproutsandall · 09/01/2019 16:05

Thalia.

I like my pronunciation of it: Tha-lee-a
But I know other people pronounce it Thay-lia and I don’t like that as much. I don’t want her to have to spend her whole life having to correct people’s pronunciation.

abcdema · 09/01/2019 16:05

Persephone
Seraphena
Athena
Isadora
Xanthe
Alexandria
Kitson

Crunchymum · 09/01/2019 16:05

Love Indiana and Ignacio.

Didn't use anything remotely like these names Grin

afrikat · 09/01/2019 16:05

I loved Xavier for my first and Aurelia for my second

Kester for a boy. I have two boys but just couldn't do it for either of them!

mistermagpie · 09/01/2019 16:08

I love love love Merlin but DH wouldn't have allowed it!

BabloHoney · 09/01/2019 16:11

December for a girl - my crazy pregnant brain was hilarious Grin

In reality I NEVER would have done it, my kids have very ordinary names!

Thurlow · 09/01/2019 16:16

Hera for a girl. Am now saving it for a cat Grin

Desperately wanted Saul for a boy and even DP was on board with it but I has a lisp so everyone thought I was saying Thor...

cjt110 · 09/01/2019 16:16

Shenequa....

Just kidding.

I wanted a boy to be Linden. DH veto'd.
I suggested Sebastian. DH veto'd.
I suggested George. DH Veto'd but suggested Georgina for a girl which I veto'd. It then became Georgia for a girl.
Can't recall who came up with our son's name but we immediately agreed. Albeit we changed the spelling to a lesser used, but not yoonique spelling.

My father apparently wanted to call me Laurie-Beth. My Mum veto'd it and I was going to be Kara until I was born. Then my Mum said it didn't suit me and named me my name. If I were a boy I was going to be Matthew.

Poor DH was going to be Rupert. DH is a 70's babe and whilst Rupert is back in vogue now, he would have had a life of ridicule back then.

cjt110 · 09/01/2019 16:17

@mistermagpie My godmother's son is called Merlin.

hennybeans · 09/01/2019 16:17

Christopher/ Kit for a boy, not too different but was vetoed by DH

Sadly they were our boys names and we had all girls Grin

Sorry, you made me LOL!

Persephone always seems to be mentioned a lot on these threads. Maybe it should be used more because everyone seems to like it so it might go down better than you think!

Montagu

NameChange30 · 09/01/2019 16:37

@Thurlow
DS is Saul or should I say Thor Grin

I liked Ezra but we decided it was too "out there". It seems popular on these boards but I've never met one in real life!

Thurlow · 09/01/2019 16:38

@NameChange, well done, it's such an awesome name!

NameChange30 · 09/01/2019 16:40

Thank you! People are always confused by it. I know it's unusual but I thought it was better known than it is! Clearly DH and I have watched more American TV than the general UK population Grin

Kracken · 09/01/2019 16:41

Not really the point of the thread but I have a Persephone. No-one calls her by that name, we use a shortened version but not a very obvious one. It is just too grand a name for her and a bit of a mouthful too! I am hoping she might grow into her full name or choose to use it when she is older. So, a cautionary tale against unusual names I guess!
