Share your baby names that you weren't quite brave enough to use!

I love the name Winter but I feel it's a bit more "out there" than Summer or Autumn so I'm not brave enough to use it Blush Plus it would sound awful in the country I live in.

I also love Rocco but that was vetoed by DH!

What unusual baby names were you not quite brave enough to use?

I loved Juno, Veda and Wednesday for dd2. She is non of those but I do still really love Wednesday. If she had been a boy she might have been a Sullivan.

WobbleTime · 09/01/2019 19:53

I also like Tuesday and Sunday. And Wednesday. Might get another dog and name it one of the above!

PlainJane007 · 09/01/2019 19:54

We weren't brave enough to use them as first names but dd has Fox as middle name and ds has Tiger. We also know a middle-named Bear... All our little cubs! (now teenagers)
Loving some of the names mentioned. Have started a list for our next dog...

DS - 31 - has two pals from Uni. Rameses and Ptolemy. They studied music not Egytpology. Bloody fantastic names though and lovely well grounded blokes.

We wanted to call DS Isambard as DH is an engineer but we were talked out of it by family and went for a then less unusual name which then became very popular a year later.

DS is quite relieved we were talked out of it though.

AgathaMisty · 09/01/2019 19:59

You've just reminded me I love Kitty! Unfortunately, it was vetoed by every single person I mentioned it to, or told to use Catherine instead, which is fine but not the name I want.

I'm another Bear fan.

I really, really wanted Wednesday. Firmly vetoed by DH.

I wanted to call my dd Honey but my dp said you can call her Honey if you let me give her the second name as bee and that was it I was put off.
I still love the name though but no more babies for me.

challengeyourreality · 09/01/2019 20:14

@whatswithtodaytoday my DDs classmate is called Balthazar. Couldn't have happened to a smaller, skinner, blonde boy

DS1 has a name that has been mentioned more than once one here. Lots of people have told us that they live it, but weren’t brave enough to use it. My aunt, meanwhile, called my mum and actually asked if we were winding her up, after we announced his birth! Fortunately, though, it really suits DS, and people are generally positive about it.

DH really wanted DS2 to be either Gulliver, Isambard or Horatio. I was a bit anxious about appearing to go for ‘out there’ names, so he has a more common name, similar to one of these. In hindsight, as much as I regret my decision, there will be about 3-4 boys with the same name at DS’s relatively smal school when he starts. And the same would ha e applied for almost all of our ‘safer’ options.

We were also very mainstream with our girl choice, although we have not actually met any little girls with the names.

KirstieandPhil · 09/01/2019 20:23

All of the names I had on my 'list' for dd1 and dd2 have been listed as well as their actual names.

For boys I loved Atlas and Douglas. My newborn Dd2 would have been Douglas if she was a boy but I probably would have wussed out of using Atlas although it may have been a middle name.

DP wanted to call dd2 Fox. I wouldn't use it as it's a bit hipster cliche to me, but I was trying to convince DP that Mulder would be cool as a given name (for the x files fans)

tillytoodles1 · 09/01/2019 20:25

My FIL is called Woolfe. I love that name but wasn't brave enough to use it.

challengeyourreality · 09/01/2019 20:28

What would be the female form of Caspian? I love this name thread!

shiveringtimber · 09/01/2019 20:28

I really wanted to call my DS Auberon (as in Auberon Waugh) but my whole family was vehemently against it. Good ole Shakespeare with his Oberon!

LordPickle · 09/01/2019 20:30

I desperately wanted to use the name Cullen but my DH said absolutely not.

ForumUsername · 09/01/2019 20:31
