I love the name Winter but I feel it's a bit more "out there" than Summer or Autumn so I'm not brave enough to use it Blush Plus it would sound awful in the country I live in.

I also love Rocco but that was vetoed by DH!

What unusual baby names were you not quite brave enough to use?

We toyed with Ornette for our last ones middle name, but the registrar said there was no room left on the form. (There were already three names) When we told her she was less than amused. (Anyone who doesn't know Ornete Coleman was a male jazz musician)

Geekster1963 · 09/01/2019 22:25

I liked Violet for a girl. DH hated it.

Briefly considered ornette, and if DD2 was a boy I would have used Sylvan.

But I live somewhere where every other child has a name from this thread, no one would have batted an eyelid

MotherOfDragonite · 09/01/2019 22:34

Seraphine

Isis (possibly a lucky escape! This was a long time ago, predating the Islamic State stuff!)

January

Cosmo

So I just looked up the baby name statistics for the year of DS's birth. There were only 47 Sauls that year! His name was ranked 730th in equal place with:
Abu (monkey in Aladdin)
Alvin (Chipmunks)
Braxton (Toni)
Danyal
Eren
Haaris (is this a forrin spelling?)
Hadi
Haroon
Ismael (I know this is popular but there are different spellings)
Klay
Olaf (Frozen!)
Sultan (also Aladdin...)

My son is in good company. A monkey and a snowman Grin

Potcallingkettle · 09/01/2019 22:48

Antigone nn Tiggy. Would never quite dare though!

TrashPanda · 09/01/2019 22:53

Alice is the one name I would have loved but 3 boys and not wishing to channel aging rock stars meant we didn't go for it Grin

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 09/01/2019 22:55

I really liked Alexa. Still do. Stupid Amazon Angry

Proseccoagain · 09/01/2019 22:58

My greatnieces have three of the names mentioned.

Sidge · 09/01/2019 23:00

I wanted to call DD3 Octavia or Jessamy.

DH said no, which is a shame because she would have suited Octavia.

Mummymummums · 09/01/2019 23:04

Tiger. DH said no.

bigKiteFlying · 09/01/2019 23:14

Odin - was non starter with DH.

Nearly had an Edison but pfb was a girl and we thought better of it by DS birth.

scrivette · 09/01/2019 23:22

Persephone
Seraphina

Inigo
Riven

However DD has a very 'out there' name and always gets comments. She was one of 3 born in the year she was born.

SleepingBooty · 09/01/2019 23:23

India
Eloise
Savannah
Saffron
Nicolette

HelloDoris · 09/01/2019 23:54

DH was desperate to call DD1 Fenchurch, he was adamant. Till she arrived and we both knew it wouldn't be right.

He had a thing for literary/comic book/graphic novel names if we'd have boys I've no doubt they would have been named after an avenger.

As it was DD1 did get a name used in a graphic novel although it's hugely popular, we've given her the alternative spelling. She was also born in the same month and we lived in the same place as the character at the time she was born.

Poor old DD2 just got a boring name, no back story, just the only name we could agree on, and my dad was the one who suggested it

Carno13 · 10/01/2019 00:28

Margot. Quinn! Too much for my husband!

PippaPug · 10/01/2019 00:34

How do you pronounce Persephone? I think I’m pronouncing It wrong in my head!

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 10/01/2019 00:46

I love Thaddeus and Tristan, but dp strongly disagrees.

ParadiseLaundry · 10/01/2019 02:18

With our first I became obsessed by the name Everett but DH vetoed Sad

I'm due with no 2 in August and love the name August for a boy but DH is having none of it.

I also love Tristan! I know it's officially a posh boy name but it also sounds like a 90's boy band name to me! I imagine a handsome young man with beautiful, delicate features and bouncy curtained hair Grin

RangerLady · 10/01/2019 02:44

Love the name Hester, DH hated it!
