Self-care every day 2019

Hi everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR Thanks

I've not made a resolution as such but I am going to do more for myself in the form of self-care. It doesn't have to be too much or for too long but I want to do something daily. I'd love for you all to try and join me.

Here's a list of some of the things I've got on my list:

Read a chapter of what ever book I'm reading.
Bubble bath.
Meditation.
Walk.
Lunch by myself.
Cup of tea in peace.
Movie and candles.
Music hour.

That's just a few of mine. My aim is daily BUT I'm not going to over push myself where I get annoyed if I don't do it. I will try at least 5/10 days even if it's just a 5 minute meditation or a cup or tea in peace.

Who wants to join me? And what're your favourite ways of self-care?x

Hi @OneStepMoreFun good for you taking the afternoon, sounds like you definitely deserve it. I have a 6 year old (nearly 7) and a teenager so big age gap, one likes toys and attention the other likes space and quiet.. polar opposites lol. I know my CBT will help eventually it just feels like a long time away atm. I've just had a knock at the door with a delivery of my fine liners and an email to tell me my notebook for a bullet journal is on its way so I can start that over the next few days. Something to give me focus hopefully x

Sarah - Thanks for that lovely comment. #blush! Grin

DidSome - I haven't tried Aesop but have tried their handwash and liked it. £££ though! Also, I'm trying to only buy glass bottles, although I think their plastic is recyclable - would need to check.

Today has been a busy working day, but really lovely. One of those days that reminds me why I'm still teaching! Self care has involved saying nice things to people thus making me smile too, and using an essential oil roll-on thing at lunchtime whilst mainlining grapes. :)

mumof2sarah · 10/01/2019 19:06

I got under a throw before and watched an episode of Hawaii 5-0 and I actually had such a chilled hour. I always forget how much I enjoy that show til I watch one x

mumof2, I have this age gap with my eldest two and there is a baby in the mix also, it does come with its own trials and tribulations but like everything I find there are definite pros to having this kind of gap. I have also used CBT in the past and if money was no object, I would have counselling sessions now; it is so lovely to be listened to, dh tries bless him with the listening thing and doesn't do too badly but I once found a counsellor to whom visiting was so beneficial to my mental health.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 10/01/2019 22:22

remus - yes it’s certainly on the pricey side , I use it sparingly but it’s worth it!

mumof - I hardly get time to watch anything on tv but when I do I Savoie it. Very jealous

My self care was a day of exercise. I had childcare today so I used it to exercise; yoga, spin and then a run. Day 4 of the diet and it’s going really well so I’m pleased. DD is wide awake and I’m shattered so I’m hoping she will drop off soon, I need some sleep

VanillaSugarCookies · 11/01/2019 07:00

Been up since 5am and have tried and tried to get back to sleep but it isn't happening. I've been on instagram wasting time and catching up on YouTube so I think i had better get up and start my day properly. I'm going to make myself a cuppa and do some yoga.

Today's self care will be the next couple of house I have free before DC wake up.

mumof2sarah · 11/01/2019 07:20

Hi @Lavenderdays some really good bonus' to the age gap. My eldest will often sit and play with sister whilst I have a bath, she also likes to cook when I'm not feeling well, have a lovely day xx

@Didsomeonesaybunny I'm not a big tv watcher tbh, I have done recently as I know I'm actually going to relax then but go through stages where when I'm in the house on my own I don't even have it on. Sounds like you're doing a wonderful job at self-care. Keep it up lovely we're all here :) xx

@VanillaSugarCookies I love being up before everyone, hate waking early but when I do it's my favourite time of the day. I tend to sit and do some breathing and have a hot water or a brew and just enjoy the quiet until I'm joined by little people and their noise lol. Hope you have a lovely day xx

Today I'm going to take the children to school and then do a bit of tidying and sorting I think. I have a few errands to run but I'm really struggling atm to have the energy so I'll probably save them for over weekend xx

Happy Friday everyone! What are your plans?

I'm currently running a bath whilst DH makes tea for the DC (they always have tea a bit later on a Friday) and they're watching some random rubbish on netflix. Then when I get out I'll sort them out for bed whilst DH has a shower and then it'll be me on the couch with either a good book or a movie and an early night. So glad it's Friday, I can't wait to not have to rush getting up and ready tomorrow and probably slob on the couch til lunch time x

Hi all! Had a busy week, but it’s the weekend!!!
I’m running a bath, lit some candles and slowly unwinding. DD is with her dad this weekend, so I’ve got it all to myself.
I plan to see a photo exhibition, have my eyebrows done, eat rubbish, swim, run and nap. Lots of naps.

mumof2sarah · 11/01/2019 21:23

Hi @8FencingWire sounds wonderful, enjoy every moment of it, sounds like it's thoroughly deserved xx

Evening! Just quickly my self care for today was going to spin class. Had an extraordinarily shit day having argued with my boyfriend aaargh so I buggered off out for a drink with friends and I had childcare this evening. Not a great day but hoping tomorrow will be better

mumof2sarah · 12/01/2019 07:28

@Didsomeonesaybunny sorry you had a tough day my lovely. I hope you and your boyfriend are ok. Sending you lots of love for a better day today xx

Hi everyone.

I've had a god couple of days. Went out for dinner last night. Saw the film about Laurel and Hardy today, which I'd recommend.

Tonight will involve Southern Comfort, a bath and a book.

mumof2sarah · 12/01/2019 17:02

Hi @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie sounds lovely :) enjoy xx

Didsomeonesaybunny · 12/01/2019 21:18

remus - really want to watch that film, think I’ll go next week, we’ve got a lovely little independent cinema near us which serves gin and tonics!

I went to our local food market today and picked up a lovely bottle of red and some cakes! Devouring currently!

Thanks mum - we are not on the best of terms and he goes away tomorrow in business. We’ve just got different view so in stuff sometimes, nothing we can’t overcome I’m sure. How was your day?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2019 22:56

We saw it in our independent, but I decided against a cocktail and had a hot chocolate instead!

It's been a filmy sort of day - just watched 'Pride' which is a stunning film that I'd highly recommend if anybody hasn't seen it yet.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 12/01/2019 23:29

Hi folks. Had a busy, but productive, week back at work. Tonight I'm reading a new book and enjoying it! I love reading, and have struggled to find time in the last few months. Determined to carve myself some time back.

8FencingWire · 13/01/2019 15:40

Hi all,
Finally down time :)
I went for a run this morning and for a swim this afternoon. And I got myself a fitbit, I’m very excited about it. It records the swims :) and that’s the best bit for me :)
I had an early night last night, slept for 8 1/2 hours.

Bless, what are you reading? I’m finishing Moranthology tonight, but I have 2 shelves of books ready for me :)
remus, thanks for the heads up, we’ll try and go and see it.

One thing I discovered is that if I put music on in the morning, I feel much better :). So I started my day with Mumford and sons at full volume. Try it, it works, it really energises you.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/01/2019 20:00

Agree re music in the morning. I've started to listen to my MP3 on the bus into work, instead of reading. It definitely puts me in a better mood!

mumof2sarah · 14/01/2019 09:21

Hi everyone and sorry I've been so so quiet, it's been a crazy old weekend. I had some stuff going on and had to take some time out. Everything's ok just needed some time. I hope you're all ok xx

OP posts:
Didsomeonesaybunny · 14/01/2019 22:27

Hi mum - hope you’re ok?

Self care for me today was going for a short run. It was lovely to just get out and stretch my legs.

Hope everyone has managed self care today.

mumof2sarah · 15/01/2019 07:03

@Didsomeonesaybunny yeah I'm ok now thank you. I had to take some medication which unfortunately didn't agree with me, I spent the whole two days feeling awful on the couch. Yesterday I had some me time watching TV with a brew and some biscuits. This evening I'm hoping to have a long soak in the bath with some candles and my book x

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/01/2019 18:43

Sorry you've been feeling unwell, Sarah. Enjoy your bath. I'll be having one too, later on.

mumof2sarah · 15/01/2019 19:05

Hi @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie it sounds sad but I've missed you all and the updates :) I've just stepped out of a lovely bath where I've read two chapters of my book in peace. DD1 is holed up in her room studying and DD2 came home from school in a very ratty mischievous mood (I blame the 50 million times she got up before she went to sleep last night) so she's already tucked up in bed. I'm going to dry my hair, pour myself a nice cold glass of orange cordial and get into bed for another chapter or two of my book lol.

Has anyone tried any other new self care things or got anything nice planned?x

OP posts:
mumof2sarah · 15/01/2019 22:44

So another chapter or two in bed turned into another good few chapters lol. It's done me the world of good though, being engrossed into a fictional world helps me to really wind down. I've set myself a challenge to read a book a month and I'm on task to finish this book before the end of the month xx
