How’s your Christmas morning going?

It’s just me, DW and DMIL this year chez nous. It’s 10:25, I’ve been up since 9:00, made DMIL her morning cuppa at 8:40 and not a movement upstairs yet. DW put her head round the door at about 9:30 to check that DMIL had had her morning cuppa and went back upstairs.

We’re having Christmas dinner this evening, so not much to do on that front just yet. I’m tempted to go out for an hour on my bike, given the complete absence of any Christmas atmosphere. Merry Christmas all!

It’s my DF 70th so we have had his presents and some Buck’s Fizz and breakfast, going for a long walk in the lakes (we are here for the week in a chalet) before coming back to cook the dinner and do the Xmas presents

ScreamingBadSanta · 25/12/2018 10:35

OK. I felt exhausted last night (was working yesterday) so didn't get my food prep done, but everything's in now - goose in oven (made the forcemeat stuffing first thing), bread sauce marinating with cloves, stock brewing - DH just starting on peeling the potatoes so I will be parboiling them for roasts in a while - relaxing now with cup of tea Xmas Smile.

Finfintytint · 25/12/2018 10:35

Merry Christmas.
All prep is done. DH is walking the dog and I’m about to go and visit my mum in hospital with my brother who will join us for dinner later. Adult son is working and we probably won’t see him until after the new year.

Only 2 arguments and screaming frenzies so good so far.
Hope next door were not hoping for a quiet morning. Poor buggers.
Had the obligatory chocolate for breakfast, can’t see the living room floor for plastic, cardboard, toys, clothes, boxes of chocolate and of course lynx body spray gift boxes....

Me, trying to avoid ... yes I’m shit parent. I’ve sorted laundry, put another load on, separated the cardboard and plastic for recycling and huffed under my breath at the amount of rapping paper that isn’t recyclable. I always buy the paper based stuff.
I’m secretly having palpitations about the mess... I bloody loath Christmas.

AGHHHH · 25/12/2018 10:40

Lame. I'm at my nans hiding upstairs because she's chain smoking in the living room with all the windows and doors closed, and all I've had to open is a bag of individually wrapped tinned items from Lidl from my sister because I said "something edible" when asked what I wanted for Christmas.

Not to sound ungrateful but I meant something... Gift worthy. Like a cheap box of chocolates. I can't get excited about spaghetti loops and tinned burgers.

I should have been more specific. Xmas Blush

Snapsnapsnap · 25/12/2018 10:44

Up since 5, baby struggling to nap in an unfamiliar, exciting place. Family keep trying to have special meals all together and sitting politely while it all goes cold as we wrestle said baby, who is now being marched up the road by DH. No-one seems to know what's going on with the meal later:

Kimtag · 25/12/2018 10:45

I woke an hour ago. Others had mine pies for breakfast.

I am still in bed. I cook Christmas dinner, so deserve to rest.

PristineCondition · 25/12/2018 10:45

I haven’t sleep
Kids up ant the arsecrack of dawn
Can’t regester the kids new kindle
Got shite for Christmas
Dp fucked off for a nap- he went to bed at 10pm

Have eaten a selection box
Teens being cheery
8 year old is unbelievably happy
Cats are playing in the piles of wrapping paper
and I’m going to crack out the Baileys

chuffnstuff · 25/12/2018 10:46

Stayed overnight in a hotel and at the parents today. Woken at half 6 by screaming kids running up and the down the corridor followed by a child in the room next to mine throwing a squeaky ball at the wall behind my head for 30 minutes, lovely.

Snapsnapsnap · 25/12/2018 10:47

I'm debating taking charge having washed my hands of the whole thing but DM is getting frazzled.

mycatplotsdeath · 25/12/2018 10:50

Up at 830. Me, Dp and Dd2 opened presents.
Had poached eggs and crispy bacon for breakfast.
Now getting ready to go to Dd1 for Xmas dinner

Snapsnapsnap · 25/12/2018 10:51

Anyone else cooking in someone else's kitchen, give me a little solidarity bump.

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 25/12/2018 10:53

Dd and gs are on their way to me via my parents house. Goose is in the oven, log burner lit. Did my crying yesterday at my son's grave to a dreamy man who didn't know what had hit him when he asked who I'd been visiting. Ah the shame! First decent bloke I've met in a while as well

Annandale · 25/12/2018 10:53

Love these. Up about 9.30, ds has opened his stocking, peeked potatoes, helped me with incomprehensible ancient recipes with streaming nose, gone back to bed. Not sure I'm very organised. Aiming to eat at 2 after dm arrives and presents. Having thought there would only be 2 presents for me, my friends have flooded me with presents, prob more than ds.

Crunchymum · 25/12/2018 10:56

Up at 7:45. Am very impressed as my kids are 4 and 6 and have been mega excited. We did a good job of wearing them out yesteday Grin. Baby [11m] slept through as well and we had to wake her

Presents opened within the hour and the house looks like a bomb has hit it.

DP is on you duty and i've escaped to do the washing up and peel the spuds.

Going to do bacon rolls and tea soon. Dinner about 4pm. I'm feeling relaxed and the wine will be opened when I start cooking Wine

Crunchymum · 25/12/2018 10:56
  • toy duty
PristineCondition · 25/12/2018 10:57

7:45 is midday!
Star to your kids Xmas Grin

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 10:58

Trudging through wrapping paper and chocolate wrappers, as you'd expect

Aaaahfuck · 25/12/2018 10:59

I'm feeling like a brat. DP has spent 100 pound on a necklace I hate. He's normally amazing with presents. I put in loads of effort with gifts and my family often buy fairly impersonal gifts. I know it's just stuff but when you put in loads of love and effort I can't help but feel it's because people aren't bothered. Had a nice breakfast of belinis and bucks fizz.

BalloonDinosaur · 25/12/2018 11:01

DS didn't wake up til 7:30, opened a few presents and got very excited with his Paw Patrol stuff Smile and is now refusing to nap.

Pain au chocolat for breakfast (DS made a huge mess with his and then demanded eggs on toast) off to IL's for dinner and my sister's for 2nd dinner later.

Got a message from 73yr old DM first thing announcing that she was just setting off to Kent (approx 7 hours away) to pick up my brother who's being discharged from hospital today and bring him back here Confused Everything crossed they make it back in one piece!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Tartpop · 25/12/2018 11:04

Tired!! 7year old DD up at 3.45am and then every 30 mins after. Finally gave up at 5.45 and went down stairs. All presents opened by about 6.30. Went back to bed between 7-8.

I had so many plans to have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs for breakfast but instead I'm really grumpy which had made everyone else grumpy.

DD also tired.

House of zombies.

DH grumpy with me for being grumpy.

Dowser · 25/12/2018 11:04

Lovely thank you.
Just a normal day in the Dowsers household.
Had a christmas cuddle. Opened my one present I’d chosen myself...he’s not good at gifts...chatted to my daughter in law..for nearly an hour, off to my dd for the Xmas knees up

All good

HotSauceCommittee · 25/12/2018 11:05

Having planned to go to DIL’s in Devon for a lovey, massive family Christmas, DS1 (15) came down with flu yesterday so it’s just me and him. I don’t even have a bottle of Baileys or a fucking Christmas pudding! Grin
It has been the crowing boil on an awful year. I was trying to console myself with “at least nobody died” thought, but they did: I’ve been to two funerals this year and my rock and roll hero died.
At least as I’m not in a Tsunami and I have in laws that I love so that I’m sad at not being with them rather than relieved that that I’m not.
Now do I open Champagne? X

wonkylegs · 25/12/2018 11:08

Not fab
Last night DH & got into an argument at midnight.
Then my morning started at 3.15am with a poorly DC2 who wouldn't sleep just wanted to cuddle, no spare beds and DH & I are in a tiny double/DC on blow up beds as we are at in laws so ended up watching tv in a chair with him to avoid waking everybody else up, finally dozed off with him on my lap at 6ish woken up at 6.30 by DC1 and found that DC2s nappy had leaked all over both of us so his and my pjs needed wash.
Stockings were a highlight & DC2 had proper wonder over daft little things
I then manage to sneak off for 1hrs more sleep
All kids (mine & cousins) then decided they wanted to go for a walk - trying to find adults willing to go has been a struggle but they have finally gone. DH is properly grumpy due to lack of sleep and yesterday's argument.
Feeling a bit guilty for not helping MIL more with food but I'm knackered physically and emotionally drained. About to finally get a shower and get up, make up and my Xmas jumper will hopefully help.
I'm hoping presents will keep kids occupied and copious amounts of food and booze will chill adults out and send them to sleep on the sofa.

nickeltownofbethlehem · 25/12/2018 11:09

Currently waiting for dd to get dressed and stop staring at the tv so we can play lego dimensions.

I've already eaten most of my chocolate and rescued a nanobot from underneath the organ pedals Grin
