How’s your Christmas morning going?

It’s just me, DW and DMIL this year chez nous. It’s 10:25, I’ve been up since 9:00, made DMIL her morning cuppa at 8:40 and not a movement upstairs yet. DW put her head round the door at about 9:30 to check that DMIL had had her morning cuppa and went back upstairs.

We’re having Christmas dinner this evening, so not much to do on that front just yet. I’m tempted to go out for an hour on my bike, given the complete absence of any Christmas atmosphere. Merry Christmas all!

I'm biting my tongue so much I might bite it off. PIL round to ours for day, evening and night. Had enough.
Trying to do everything to make it a success and DH is doing nothing but showing off in front of his parents. Nothing to help.
I've got crippling anxiety and depression which I've just started psychotherapy for and feel like a coiled spring. Can't even drink as I'm a recovering alcoholic. Want to go to bed.

Whatamuddleduck · 25/12/2018 12:04

Not off to the best start. Changed room at the hotel 5 times in sesrch if a reasonable bed and clean bath. Room found, bill reduced. DP being a grumpy twat as he doesn’t feel Christmassy.

Baby is napping, off to my sisters later to eat with all my family. Lunch will be comically awful but I’m looking forward to spending time all together as my sister is very ill and I don’t see her and the kids enough. DP will be a twat all day and ask to leave every 5 minutes. But then that’s him everyday so what do I expect!

My memories of today will be of seeing family, cuddly naps with baby and her joy at her music set. All else will fade ( I hope).

Turkey is in the oven, soup is made and ready to warm through.

Just going to have a shower and set the table and wait for Dad & Gran to arrive.

Crying sporadically as first Christmas without Mum.

Sitting with hair in a towel after my shower
Only got up an hour ago
Stockings done
Plans are all up shit creak with people making last minute decisions to go elsewhere
Dd happy with stocking gifts 🙌🏻
Waiting for DM and neighbour to come over before we do other gifts

Actually feeling relaxed and I don’t care if no one else shows up!
Considering having a cider and dressing up the dog.

legoqueen · 25/12/2018 12:28

Relaxed start to day at 9am now that DS is 12 Grin. Presents opened within the hour, several comedy moments with DS helping technologically-challenged DH set up his i pad. Turkey is in the oven & all veg prepped, DS in on fortnite, DH is having a shower after a cheeky nap & I'm listening to carols & thinking about my family on the other side of the world who we sadly won't see this Christmas - very quiet with just the three of us. But am also counting my blessings as we are so lucky to have a lovely home & such kind & generous friends & family. Merry Christmas everyone & for those having rubbish days - this too shall pass...

BarooSaidTheBear · 25/12/2018 12:33

ugh ugh one child wouldn't sleep til 10.30 then I had insomnia til 3.30 then the other one woke me up at 5.30.

Luckily we did the big meal on Sunday and are just having picky bits today.

Now drunk on bucks fizz and watching netflix she-ra and laughing evilly at the specially commissioned portrait of their late cat that BIL got for SIL.

Taffeta · 25/12/2018 12:34

Just me DH 2 DC and DM
First year without my Dad but going well so far
Stockings at 7.30, did one for DM which she loved as my Dad used to do them for her

Eating smoked salmon blinis now and quaffing champagne
Others doing a puzzle
Eating about 2 then open presents

Nice and relaxed this year

purplelass · 25/12/2018 12:38

Awake at 8.30 for presents with teenage DD. She's got me some lovely bits & pieces. Opened some really thoughtful presents from my boyfriend whos away at his folks. ExH picked DD up at 11.30 and was reasonably civil for a change. Went for a lovely run with birdsong and squirrels it was like something out of Disney! Now soaking in a Lush bath before chucking Chinese nibbles in the oven for dinner & watching old films, then off to my lovely friend's this evening for bubbly & laughs. Pretty perfect really!
Happy Christmas everyone!

Frosty66611 · 25/12/2018 12:39

Just me and my mum this year as my dad is working and my DP is down south spending it with his dad.
It’s very subdued so far and we have had a handful of small gifts to open each. We’re making a trifle now for later and we’ll do a small roast and watch a couple of films by the log fire

AlwaysSomethingThere · 25/12/2018 12:40

I'm 32, no kids and I'm still in bed. I'll get in the shower in 20 minutes, blow dry my hair, trim the old bush 😁 and drive over to my folks for dinner. Me and Mum will watch the QS followed by a film, Dad will spend the whole afternoon moaning then piss off to bed saying it's all bollocks and I'll go round my mates and pound a bottle of wine.

Merry Christmas x

MyMagicStars · 25/12/2018 12:40

We got up about 8, and had a long breakfast with the DC trickling in. Baby DGD's first xmas, and we facetimed DIL who has to work. Presents opened and a lot of rootling about in my nice tidy drawers for batteries (forgot to get). DH is preparing lunch for about 3, while I get lovely baby cuddles. The DC have gone for a horse ride, and am expecting them back in about an hour and a half. Baby is enjoying the wrapping paper and I've got my new Wolf Hall DVD in the background and the woodburner on. Bliss!

SantaBabycharly · 25/12/2018 12:43

Shite !
Do not normally say bad words in post BUT husband is in foul mood YET AGAIN!
I got an email from hotel 2 days ago saying car park reduced because of a marquee.
Guess what , it is a party marquee! WTF!
Only reason we booked is the car parking.

SagelyNodding · 25/12/2018 12:44

Dragged out of bed with slight hangover at 9.30am, let the kids open their stockings (biggest hits were slime and a slinky) then presents once I managed to make coffee and brioches for me and dp... Kids had chocolate coins and juice, not the beautiful spread I had planned!
Presents were all a hit, but spent a good hour sorting out tech (Alexa was being a pita, but has finally connected herself)
DH has gone to work and I'm considering a shower and a bracing walk to wake me up a bit! Happy Christmas everyone!

SantaBabycharly · 25/12/2018 12:45

He can not pack all the stuff that he wants in the case either.

TokyoSushi · 25/12/2018 12:47

Actually much better than expected here, I spent over an hour setting up the Xbox while DH did food prep but otherwise actually lovely!

The DC's are behaving really well (probably because one is engrossed in said Xbox) and I got a beautiful Coach handbag which was completely unexpected as we'd set a £50 limit but he got an (also unexpected) Christmas bonus, happy days!

drinkswineoutofamug · 25/12/2018 12:49

Just opened presents. Waiting for roast potatoes to do their thang then grub up! Watching nativity 2 while cooking , slugging on a large glass of wine!

Dothehappydance · 25/12/2018 12:57

Not too bad, had very little sleep as struggled to drop off. Dd2 and I have been to church. Just cooking lunch.

Ds (autism) is doing ok. He is just holed up on the PS4. Just DH, me, 3 dc and mil. He has had one stress about waiting to open presents but other than that he is just free to do what he wants. Not even eating with us.

PenguinPandas · 25/12/2018 13:01

12.30am one 11 year old on 13 year olds shoulders both singing last christmas and giggling then all eating home made Yule Log. DS then went to sleep. DD decided to try and stay up all night texting a friend on a cardboard box but at 4.30am gave up declaring I will be asleep all Christmas day if I do this.

DH is preparing Christmas lunch, cat is eating Christmas tuna, DD has just woken up, DS has opened his presents and was jumping up and down at a baby penguin for his giant penguin soft toy, he's HFA with penguin obsession. I watched Four Weddings and a Funeral and got to sleep at silly o'clock. DD got some cash and has already spent it online. Got lovely e-mail from my Italian friend saying how she's cooking Xmas dinner for 18 and I am feeling very lazy though we all just prefer a quieter Christmas where we can do what we like. First one in our thatched cottage.

FiveNightsAtMummys · 25/12/2018 13:02

Finally got to sleep at 3am as I'm full of cold / bad chest. Youngest dc had set an alarm for 7, turned it off and laid in bed for a hour. Youngest dc come in my room about 8ish to tell me it was Xmas. Want down stairs made myself a hot lemon and dh a brew and got dcs a drink. Went to room to see if Santa had been. Opened gifts which seem to have agas as youngest struggled with opening the paper. Set up my new tassimo machine and put my gifts away. Kids took some of their things upstairs. Put meat for dinner in oven. Had a bath whilst dh opened all boxes / put batteries in toys. Cleaned bottom of fridge, put potatoes in oven sat on sofa trying to get my breath back so I can make rest of dinner.. with about 10 puffs on my inhaler inbetween all the chaos lol. Aiming to eat about 2pm.

mrsclausisdrunk · 25/12/2018 13:04

Ds has just woken and is ill. Just lying there crying. It's possibly this condition he has which can cause stomach and head migraines when over excited.

Fucking heartbroken for him.

No interest in his stocking or Santa having been. Just lying there crying.

NightOwlHoney · 25/12/2018 13:07

DC being rude and entitled. DH being SO FUCKING ANNOYING. Shortly being joined by MIL, who is the most annoying person in the fucking universe. I'm ill and just want to go to bed, but no one gives a shit.

EdCowling · 25/12/2018 13:08

Memories of Christmas; Mum getting up at 5am to put the sprouts on to boil :-)

IdentifyasTired · 25/12/2018 13:08

All the kids (9, 7, 4 and baby) were up at 6am to open stockings in our bed. Then we ate chocolate, got dressed and went to church with extended family.
Then over to my parent's house to see everyone/exchange gifts. Now we're back at home the kids have just opened their presents under the tree and I've brought the baby upstairs for a nap.
DH is in charge of lunch and I'm debating when to give the dog her stocking (she's a bit overwhelmed with the noise and stuff).
Merry Christmas all!

mbb1 · 25/12/2018 13:09

Bored bored bored bored. Nothing to do until meat is cooked. Dd moaned about who was on which team so just gave up trying to fill in time with a game. Might as well open the wine

4strings · 25/12/2018 13:10

Kids up at 5.45.

Spoke to parents who were luke warm about the gifts I got them. They bought the dc one tiny, cheap gift each. I know it’s the thought that counts etc but they are very, very well off but staggeringly mean.

I saw them yesterday and dm was very rude about something, and the day before that she described dd1 as “rather large”. Dd is 11 and gave as good as she got but dm did the same to me as a child (still obsesses over my weight) and I’ve had counselling to deal with this sort of shit because it destroyed my self-esteem and I wanted to kill her. Still in a bad mood!
