How’s your Christmas morning going?

It’s just me, DW and DMIL this year chez nous. It’s 10:25, I’ve been up since 9:00, made DMIL her morning cuppa at 8:40 and not a movement upstairs yet. DW put her head round the door at about 9:30 to check that DMIL had had her morning cuppa and went back upstairs.

We’re having Christmas dinner this evening, so not much to do on that front just yet. I’m tempted to go out for an hour on my bike, given the complete absence of any Christmas atmosphere. Merry Christmas all!

DS18 woke me up in his usual fashion, by bouncing on my bed with his stocking, but at a reasonable hour (9am). DH sleeps in a chair downstairs these days so DS and I gossiped and shared a can of Bailey's latte from his stocking for a while, then went downstairs to open presents.

DH and DS went halves on a Dyson Airwrap for me, I'm so happy! I also got perfume from DH. DS said his stocking was the best one yet - I think partly because he got a small Crystal Head vodka, and a chocolate orange instead of a satsuma. Just getting ready now to go to my parents house for the day.

Merry Xmas everyone!

youarenotkiddingme · 25/12/2018 11:11

Trouble Thanks

Il at 7.30. Well I was up at 6.45 but ds wasn't up until 7.30!
Breakfast and presents and then ds watched his new dvd. He's now FaceTiming his best mate and they are chatting about what they got and probably will play something online. Off to my mums for lunch so will keep him out of my hair for a while 😂

Wish I had the courage some of you display in having goose for lunch. Somehow doesn’t appeal, although I bet it’s delish. We have never gone overboard with food at Christmas - just turkey, Xmas pud, mince pies and usual nibbles between meals, all the traditional fare. And then you guys post about goose and no doubt there’ll be a haunch of venison and a rib of beef along shortly. Makes our Christmas seem very modest, but then it’s all about what suits you and since our 4 flew the nest we don’t do it on a grand scale. DMIL always spends Christmas with us as she has nowhere else to go and if we didn’t persuade her to come, she’d happily spend it alone. She’s been widowed 30 years, DSIL has been NC for the last 20 and DBIL lives up north, can’t drive down and has to do what his DW says anyway so it’s all about her family.

DW has now showered and is in the process of getting dressed. She told me she has stressed to DMIL that there is absolutely no rush to get up and has taken her breakfast in bed. Worst thing she could have done! DMIL will be ages getting up now! I hope your days are progressing nicely. Come on here by all means if you need a whinge to get to the next stage.

Hexbug. Or something

RedToothBrush · 25/12/2018 11:14

Been up since 8.45.

On second glass of champagne.

DH has announced that instead of roast carrots and potatoes he wants sweet potato fries. Yes really. Sprouts, cauliflower cheese, beef and sweet potato fries it is...

DS is the world slowest child at opening presents. He opens one then wants to play / read it for the next 35 mins. Which is sweet and nice and shows he's appreciating his presents but it's not exactly entertaining for us!

Hence me and DH being on the Internet.

DH will be asleep by 3pm.

maddiemookins16mum · 25/12/2018 11:14

I have a full blown chest infection 😥😥 and have been awake since 0150am.
DD, DMIL and DP have gone to church, I am on the sofa with my two fabulous houseguests cooking a full dinner as I type (the best bit is one used to work in the kitchens of Windsor Castle).

I’ve been dozing for the last hour after a nice bath.
I’m feeling hungry which is good I hope.
Had lovely presents from everyone and DMIL (who I adore) won’t let me do a thing as she knows I feel like death and will mother me (in a very kind but not over the top way all day). She’s 88 tomorrow.

Screamqueenz · 25/12/2018 11:16

Just me and DH at the moment (along with 6 dogs), had a walk in the sun, opened our presents to each other and had breakfast and some fizz.
I've lit candles and I'm just going to get ready to go to my parents where we'll meet up with the adult stepkids and have a lovely family Christmas.
It's my favourite time of the year!

BridgeFarmKefir · 25/12/2018 11:17

@Snapsnapsnap SNAP. Baby's (very loose) routine has gone to shit so DH and I are eating in shifts. She was up at 3.30 and has just had a couple of cat naps. Desperately hoping I can get her to have a long nap in a bit but I'm not counting on it...

AlessandroVasectomi · 25/12/2018 11:20

Since we retired 4 years ago, I’ve been chief cook and bottle washer as DW had so many years of it while the family were growing up and was happy to hand over the oven gloves to me. I love it! However, on Christmas Day she cooks lunch so I get the day off but I will at least prep the veg to help out. And it’s only for three of us, so no great feat.

Chilled. DD's on her new 3DS, DS2's on DD's tablet, I'm eating champagne truffles. Xmas Grin

nickeltownofbethlehem · 25/12/2018 11:23

I believe goose was more traditional before turkey.
hence using goose fat for everything.

BadlyAgedMemes · 25/12/2018 11:25

Very mellow over here. Just DH and I at home. We had breakfast and opened our few presents while having coffee. Cat got some special ham and played with ribbons. We've talked with some friends on the phone. I've just had a long bath with new bath goodies (hair mask and body condition and the works). Sipping buck's fizz now, feeling meltingly relaxed.

Flowers to all whose day isn't going great. Merry Christmas to you all.

Snapsnapsnap · 25/12/2018 11:25

i am going back downstairs having failed to nap. I will ensure the Cremant de Bourgogne is refrigerated (new discovery! Like cheap champagne). And maybe rescue my mother.

Rainbowoman · 25/12/2018 11:25

Doing ok. Didn’t feel well this morning as yummy big is rife in our house at the moment. Card and presents run was done yesterday as was food prep. Just me n kids n hubby, turkey is cooking in the oven and the smell is filling the house....we r playing games, chilling out helping ourselves to snacks.....merry Christmas to you all. 😍🎉🎄🎄🍷

PinkHeart5914 · 25/12/2018 11:27

Morning here in the pink household

DC got up about 8am (they are only small so understand Xmas but don’t really) so presents were unwrapped

15 family members are here

DH is doing all the cooking (we sit down at 3pm) so his in the kitchen sorting all that

I am here drinking champagne with the other adults and all the dc are playing with new toys

Merry Christmas 🥂🎄🎄🎄🎄🥂🥂

Snapsnapsnap · 25/12/2018 11:27

The baby is being walked across the moors I gather. This will make him sleep and has the added benefit of getting DH a leg stretch.

Lovemusic33 · 25/12/2018 11:28

Really chilled out in my house, everything went to plan, dd has ASD and for the first time in 13 years she actually slept, woke early but stuck to the schedule I had made her (she likes to know what’s happening and at what time). Dd2 is now building Lego, dd1 playing in the switch, dinner in the oven and house doesn’t look like a bombs hit it. So far it’s all great.

MistressDeeCee · 25/12/2018 11:30

Just me here, DP is working today and the DCs are grown, have gone to their Grandparents with their respective partners today. We all did our presents opening etc at midnight.

It's lovely..I've only just had breakfast and put mini-roast in oven. I'm MNetting from under blanket on sofa where I plan to stay for next few hours having a Netflix binge with nice chocolates and wine to hand. Whatsapped with good friends and family in between.

I've lost several friends this year which really was a shock. So I'm raising a glass to them, and just grateful to be here really.

Peace and bliss.

Chocolateheaven123 · 25/12/2018 11:30

Been awake since 5am, unable to get back to sleep. (DS is not quite 2 so doesn't get Xmas yet and slept in til 8am)
Had Special K for breakfast. Special fucking K!
No presents opened yet.
No chocolate eaten.
DP was out with his dad on the farm for 2 hours leaving me with DS and talking to his mum about cancer/dying of people I don't know and complaining about people going on long haul holidays. Hmm
They also have the oven and radiators on, and have no put the fire on so it's hotter than the sun!! Envy

We stayed at in laws yday so I'm trying to convince DP (nicely, obvs!) To pack the car soon so we can leave straight after lunch as we have a 2 hour journey home and want to get home before it's dark.

It feels so far removed from Christmas and I just want to go home.

At least I can look forward to tomorrow. We are opening all of our presents tomorrow morning at home, and having croissants with Nutella for breakfast.

I love my ILs and they are lovely people but I'm used to a more lively Xmas, I guess.

Fadingmemory · 25/12/2018 11:31

Large breakfast - poached eggs, ham, toast & Hollandaise (hurrah, it worked!!). Lovely presents including a return flight from DD. Best to you all, especially those of you having a difficult day. Tomorrow will come

glenthebattleostrich · 25/12/2018 11:31

Slept in the spare room with arsehole puppy (she's gorgeous and we adore her but ...) So she wouldn't attack DD's presents. DD woke us at 2 and 2:40 but luckily went back to sleep until 6:30.

We did stocking then had a lovely breakfast of fresh pastries with Christmas songs in the background then presents. I got a gorgeous necklace and a Mr Frosty Xmas Grin

A gorgeous relaxed morning building Lego and making slime with dd while my beef rib cooks. Had a nice walk with ddog, fed my friends cats and gave them some chicken as a treat.

We'll probably open a bottle of red soon then enjoy the beef with a cheeseboard (noone is bothered by 'the trimmings') and some picky bits.

And as I type this DH has gone to fetch some baklava to nibble while we wait for the meat to cook.

Best Christmas ever!

HettySunshine · 25/12/2018 11:35

What a lovely thread.

Up at 6.45am which is amazing considering how excited dd1(5) was last night. Both my twins are now napping after the present opening carnage and I think dd1 is explaining some toy or another to dm.

All the lunch prep is done so I may open the fizz!

Merry Christmas everyone. Thank you for another year of advice and support!

wherearemychickens · 25/12/2018 11:38

I have given the game away this morning - didn't realise that there was an order form/receipt in one of the stocking presents. Cue my DD in tears and 'I liked believing in Father Christmas'. Bit gutted - she's 8 and it was going to happen sooner or later somehow, but I wanted it to be later.

Whattheduck · 25/12/2018 11:50

Up at 8.45 opened some gifts (we always save some and open them on boxing day ) had breakfast whilst watching Miracle On 34th Street
Dh has gone for a bath
Dd is in her room trying out her new make up
I have poured myself a glass of Bailey's and tucking into a sparkling prosecco mince pie and watching The Vicar Of Dibley (the christmas lunch episode)
First time in 13 years we haven't hosted christmas lunch off to my mums about 13.00 for lunch then on to mil's for tea
Hope everyone has a lovely peaceful christmas

Amazonian27 · 25/12/2018 11:57

Ok kids young teenagers much less excited or interested in us and Christmas than in years gone by. Had cooked breakfast, opened presents, turkey in just about to take the dog out with DH.
Ow mil phoned and thanked us for her presents said she really liked them. My mum didn’t say anything then said hers was ok but she preferred a version of the same thing I bought her 5 years ago (which nowhere stocks anymore). I had put a lot of thought and effort into her present got her an item she asked for, went over budget and was sure my choice would go down well with her and be appreciated.
