How old were you when you had your first?

I’m 34 and TTC. Having always thought I only wanted one, I’m now thinking that we might want a larger family (two or three) and am wondering if we’ve left it too late.

So can I ask; how old were you when you had your first child and how many do you have now?

Had dd at 21 ... really want another but worried about the age gap and the fact I'm single at 3! Ha

gg96cgp · 20/12/2018 12:47

I was 25 when I had ds and 33 when I had dd.

They're now 15 and 7 and I'm done.

You are not too old op, lots of luck Flowers

Athena51 · 20/12/2018 12:51

First (and only) at 26.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 20/12/2018 12:53

I was 25 and now I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Want one more in a couple of years.

wonkylegs · 20/12/2018 12:55

29 with my first 37 with my second
Due to my profession and the way it progresses most of my female friends have had first babies in their late 30s - I was very unusual in my peer group to have one so early.

TheGhostOfYou · 20/12/2018 12:56

Only just 19 (born a few days after my birthday).

Then I had my second just before I was 25.

Twirlo · 20/12/2018 12:56

First at 32, second at 34. Think we’re done!

Yellowcar2 · 20/12/2018 12:58

28 - DS, 31 - DD1, 33 - DD2
Definitely do not think 34 is leaving it too late. Good luck!Smile

DoingMyBest2010 · 20/12/2018 12:58

38 :-)

BitchQueen90 · 20/12/2018 13:06

22 with my first and only. I'm 28 but don't want any more children.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 20/12/2018 13:13

I was 30 with my first and just shy of 34 with my second.
My mum was also 30 when she had her first and in 1975 she was considered to be an "elderly primagravida".
They don't use that term any more.

explodingkitten · 20/12/2018 13:15

My SIL had her first at 34, second at 38 and a little surprise at 42. So you aren't too late! She also got pregnant quite easily so age doesn't mean everything.

I started TTC younger but no luck on that front.

Gedge77 · 20/12/2018 13:32

32, 35 and 38.

There are a lot of school mums older than me at my youngest's school.

RiverTam · 20/12/2018 13:34

38

I have 1

my age is not at all unusual where I live but I have certainly felt like an older mum in other parts of the country.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 20/12/2018 13:36

21 (pregnant at 20), dh 27 (then dp, was 26 when baby was conceived). We were 28 & 34 when dc5 (last baby) was born.

I started VERY early for my family. My parents were 29 & 32 when they had me. Dc4 & 5 are of a similar age of 5 of my second cousins dc, who's parent were all early 40's when they were expecting them.

Crunchymum · 20/12/2018 13:36

32, 34 and 37 with my three.

icannotremember · 20/12/2018 13:40

I was 24. I have 3 dc now, the others were born when I was 27 and when I was 33.

I didn't feel particularly young when I had my first, but looking back now, I was. Physically it was much, much easier to be pregnant, to give birth and to care for a baby in my 20s: emotionally and mentally it was much, much easier to do it in my 30s (although that could just be the benefit of having done it already and having some confidence in myself)...

I have friends who first gave birth at 14 and friends who first gave birth at 42; it really isn't the most important thing at all (although I'd still never say that 14 was the ideal age to start a family).

LBOCS2 · 20/12/2018 13:46

27 and 30. I'm 33 now and would probably have one more in me but DH is done, as he had DSS at 22 and has been raising small children for 10 years now.

My DM was 37 and 41 with me and DSis - you still have time :)

seanceinterrupted · 20/12/2018 13:48

First at 36. 3rd at almost 43.

Kenworthington · 20/12/2018 13:55
