How old were you when you had your first?

I’m 34 and TTC. Having always thought I only wanted one, I’m now thinking that we might want a larger family (two or three) and am wondering if we’ve left it too late.

So can I ask; how old were you when you had your first child and how many do you have now?

I only have one. Had her at 26.
But what I wanted to say was my mum had me at 31 with "help" (as she puts it) but then had my brother which was a total surprise at 39.

So as long as you don't mind small gaps between them I don't see it being a problem having another.

riotlady · 20/12/2018 11:04

I was 25 but I’m the youngest in my postnatal group by miles- there’s one other girl who’s 28 I think, and the others are all late 30s.

gemdrop84 · 20/12/2018 11:06

I was 24, we have two dc now with four years in between them.

30 having my son. Pregnant with my second and I'll be 32 when it's born. Definitely the last one!

SylviaAndSydney · 20/12/2018 11:07

24 when I had my first, 35 when I had my last.

TheDisillusionedAnarchist · 20/12/2018 11:08

I had my first at 34 in 2015
Second at 35 in 2016
Currently 36 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and now 37
This one is definitely the last though!

Eatmycheese · 20/12/2018 11:08

39, 41, 42

UhYeahISureHopeItDoes · 20/12/2018 11:09

18 for my first. I personally don't want any more kids when I turn 30 although it is so different with it being your first. I want to be able to enjoy myself and do what I want without having to do a school run at 40 Blush in my 20's I don't mind at all but as soon as I'm 30 I'm done, no more babies and they will be able to dress, eat and sort themselves out so I can do whatever I want without a screaming child sat next to me Grin

FestiveNut · 20/12/2018 11:11

26 when she was born. No desire for any more.

n0ne · 20/12/2018 11:14

34 with first, 38 with second

Juanbablo · 20/12/2018 11:15

I was 19. I have 3 children. I'm 30 now. They are 11, 8 and 4. 34 is a perfectly average age to start a family.

1hello2hello · 20/12/2018 11:15
  1. Love DS to bits but didn't try for a second.
Vagndidit · 20/12/2018 11:15

I was a few weeks shy of 31 when DS was born. I wasn't expecting any children--PCOS diagnosis and told I probably would need fertility treatment if I wanted a family, and I didn't think I wanted to go that route. Needless to say, his entrance into our lives was a shock.

We have to give him a sibling since he was about 4 (he's nearly 11) with no luck whatsoever, so quite content to have our little trio.

surreygirl · 20/12/2018 11:15

39 almost 40 for DC1 and 42 for DC2. Wanted to have kids earlier but wasted my 20s and early 30s on an ex who left me for OW when I was 32 and then I didn't meet current DH until I was 35!

Elfinablender · 20/12/2018 11:16

28 but it took us well over a year to conceive, then 30 and 34.

practicallyperfectmummy · 20/12/2018 11:17

I'm 38, had my first at 32 currently pregnant with number 4. I feel it's probably more tiring as your older and your body doesn't bounce back as well but so glad we have made our large family. Been hectic and close age gaps but I'm so happy.

Tinkhasflown · 20/12/2018 11:18

I had my first at 34. I now have 3. I snuck my last one in 3 weeks before my 40th birthday.

My friend had her first at 40 and her second at 41.

Dimsumlosesum · 20/12/2018 11:18

27, but he died in the womb from toxo at 22 weeks. Then 29, 30, 32.

SparkleBanana · 20/12/2018 11:19

I was 29 (just) when I had my first, 31 (nearly 32) when I had my second. I would have liked them a bit closer but family circumstances meant it wasn’t really possible but 3 years is a good gap.

I said I was stopping at 1 because the pregnancy was dreadful but I seemed to forget that till it all started again second time round.

OrdinaryGirl · 20/12/2018 11:34

I got DS1 at 36, (got pregnant 3rd month of trying). Had my twins at 39, got pregnant with them the first month of trying. 😳 Smooth, uneventful pregnancies, good birth weights.

I was convinced it would take like a year of TTC, given all the Daily Fail-type apocalyptic trumpetings about fertility PLUMMETING after 35.

But women having babies in their 40s has more than trebled in the last 20 years. And older women who conceive easily are not really newsworthy.

AliBingo · 20/12/2018 11:43

Had mine at 37, 39 and 40.
