I'm going to treat you all to my unpopular Christmas opinion.

You CAN send Christmas cards AND donate money to charity. Anyone who says they're not sending cards so they can donate the money to charity is just a Scrooge.

I'm not doing either. Mwahahaha!

leghairdontcare · 16/12/2018 17:05

Humbug!

People who have two trees; a tasteful one for them and a “tacky” one for the kids, are completely missing the point of what Christmas is and who it’s for. Get to fuck, have one massive bloody tree covered in gaudy shit. That’s the spirit of Christmas.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 16/12/2018 17:07

There is no need to personally grow, harvest, peel and roast parsnips.

The frozen ones from Lidl are just fine.

BoebePhuffay · 16/12/2018 17:07

My unpopular Christmas opinion: MN becomes a pile of whingey wank over Xmas. Thread after thread of women whingeing about MILs, exes, husbands not lifting a finger, being ungrateful about presents, sulking because someone didn’t wrote a personalised thank you letter in their own blood for a boots 3for2 shower gel set blah blah blah.

Jaxhog · 16/12/2018 17:08

Anyone who says they're not sending cards so they can donate the money to charity is just a Scrooge.

It isn't so much the money, but the effort they are saving themselves. So a lazy Scrooge at that!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 16/12/2018 17:09

Well, payperview, maybe they are donating all the money they would have spent on cards AS WELL AS a further amount? Maybe you didn’t think of that......

FlibbertyGiblets · 16/12/2018 17:09

I've not done cards for nearly two decades because of laziness. Dress it up how you like but lazy works for me. Totally cba. It started when the children (many, close in age) were tiny and I found myself and DH scrawling at ridiculous o clock. I said to him along the lines of just why are we bothering? The children are in bed, the baby will be up at 4am, fuck this for a game of soldiers and that was that.

SoyDora · 16/12/2018 17:10

Ah this one again! 4th this week.

Chosenbyyou · 16/12/2018 17:10

Reggie - OMG I have done exactly what you have said lol!!!

payperview · 16/12/2018 17:10

Maybe they can donate some money, plus more, and write cards!!!!

Elfinablender · 16/12/2018 17:10

That we should move it to February when there is a better chance of snow.

payperview · 16/12/2018 17:11

Christmas pudding isn't all that.
There I said it.

Mine is... you CAN have too many lights, and outside lights that flash are just totally unnecessary 😣

Swipetounlock · 16/12/2018 17:12

Boebe so agree. It's like 'yeah I decided we need a really elaborate Christmas but hubby won't muck in to create the 'wonder' for the kids'. Maybe he just doesn't give a fuck about the whole commercialised bullshit of it, and would rather go to the pub?

Redglitter · 16/12/2018 17:12

Im not sending cards this year because the price of postage for them is ridiculous. Ive made a donation to charity instead. The donation is actually more than id be spending on cards so i can't see how that makes me Scrooge Hmm

FunnyBird · 16/12/2018 17:12

I wish we could have this "donate money to save effort" attitude towards the school Christmas fair. Such a lot of effort, so much waste, and if everyone have the cash equivalent of their time and effort a lot of stress would be avoided...

BoebePhuffay · 16/12/2018 17:13

and outside lights that flash are just totally unnecessary

Have you seen the lights people have now that project onto the front of their house from the front garden? Swirling green snowflakes. Grin

icannotremember · 16/12/2018 17:13

I'm not sending cards or donating to charity and I'm quite happy :)

CurlyhairedAssassin · 16/12/2018 17:13

“ effort they are saving themselves. So a lazy Scrooge at that!”

Really? I know of a couple of people who, rather than waste a couple of hours buying, writing, licking and posting cards, choose to do a couple of hours charity work instead.

Here’s mine:

Judgmental people who haven’t thought very deeply about other people’s motives don’t make for a very joyful Christmas!

AlrightBabby · 16/12/2018 17:13

Ah Dora, you're so cool with your cynicism!

Celebelly · 16/12/2018 17:13

I'm not sending cards this year because I can't be arsed. Same as every year.

Screamqueenz · 16/12/2018 17:14

It's not "festive" to open a bottle of wine in the morning.
If you need alcohol to get through the day that's fine, but own it.

Swipetounlock · 16/12/2018 17:14

And the phrase turkey 'and all the trimmings' makes me boak. I hate mince pies too - evil little indigestion bombs.
