I'm going to treat you all to my unpopular Christmas opinion.

You CAN send Christmas cards AND donate money to charity. Anyone who says they're not sending cards so they can donate the money to charity is just a Scrooge.

Massive thanks to those who have PMed me asking for Dad's details so they can send a card. I'm really touched, and you're all stars :) He's going to love opening each and every one of them - and those of you who aren't sending cards this year - maybe reconsider if you have an elderly relative, they really do appreciate them :) Thanks again!

Nonsense 70s, the best song is proper chrimbo by Bo Selecta 😉

I don't like pigs in blankets either, I love the two separately though.

Jumping on a plane to somewhere warm where I'm going to sit in the sun and read a few books then when the uk has reached maximum stress levels and calmed down again I come back and get back to work

You lucky sod!

The film elf is only average and too American to count as a classic Christmas film if you live in Britain

I think we must have been separated at birth . . . .

Jasonmendoza · 16/12/2018 19:03

Anybody who puts their Christmas tree up a day before me is ridiculous and too early. Anybody who puts theirs up later than me is disorganised and Scrooge.

MacarenaFerreiro · 16/12/2018 19:04

My unpopular opinion is that I hate the whole circus and would quite happily go to sleep tonight and wake up about 10th January.

Whatthefunk · 16/12/2018 19:04

I'm not sending cards, and I'm spending the money on gin

GodrestyemerrySchadenfreud · 16/12/2018 19:05

funk

You are wise beyond your years - however many they may be.

Xmas Grin Gin

My unpopular Christmas opinion is that it's too commercialised, all about consumerism, there's so much stress, waste produced, etc. I'd prefer a nice quiet time with a bit of quiet reflection and contemplation, with a bit of hibernation thrown in. Bah humbug Grin

Bluntness100 · 16/12/2018 19:11

Those eighties tacky ceiling garlands are not coming back into fashion and look equally as shite as swathes of tinsel stuck all over your tree, windowsills and pics.

I'll get my coat. 🤣

Shockers · 16/12/2018 19:12

I’m not sending cards again this year because I object to the waste.

I give to several charities monthly by DD, so I’m not stingy either.

My unpopular Christmas opinion is that it’s a time of great waste. Glitter is unnecessary and children don’t need a pile of presents the size of a small building.

And enforced jollity gets on my nerves.

I used to think I didn’t like Christmas, but now I realise it’s the sheer over indulgence and disregard for the environment that pisses me off. I love an atmospheric carol service, a wintery walk, or games with friends and family- none of that is wrapped in plastic.

Greensleeves · 16/12/2018 19:14

I'm not really into Christmas, have no Xmas decorations, no Xmas tree and have already told my 2 year old Santa isn't real

this is far and away the most miserable, joyless comment I have seen this year. Congratulations Grin

NerrSnerr · 16/12/2018 19:15

I like sending cards. I like receiving them, we've moved a lot so nice to hear from some folk.

If people don't send them it's fine- I don't understand why they need to announce they're giving to charity.

HarrietSchulenberg · 16/12/2018 19:16

I know someone who loudly proclaims her refusal to send Christmas cards for environmental and commercialism reasons, but who gets hideously offended if she doesn't receive birthday cards. I don't send her either type of card because I can't stand the preachy fucker.

Swipetounlock · 16/12/2018 19:17

The only decent Christmas themed film ever made for any age group is Muppet Christmas Carol.

Samcro · 16/12/2018 19:20

The oasis cover of merry Christmas every body is shite.
They have made into a joyless dirge

Swipetounlock · 16/12/2018 19:28

Christmas is God's gift to women who love to martyr themselves with unnecessary work, rushing about, and fussing, and then dine out off whining about it for weeks.

gunge · 16/12/2018 19:29

Bloody fucking Christmas Jumper day. I refuse to buy shite, gaudy jumpers made by slave children to be worn one sodding day of the year.

I actually like tinsel

GreenDinosaur · 16/12/2018 19:35

I fucking hate Bing Crosby.

And why is it mandatory festive behaviour to spend all Boxing Day with the evil MIL who everyone, even her own son, hates? Xmas Angry

GreenDinosaur · 16/12/2018 19:36

Actually, I suppose I should be grateful that DH doesn't allow her to come Christmas Day! Xmas Smile

SuperSuperSuper · 16/12/2018 19:40

I feel sad thinking of people who've been bereaved this year, and those who are splitting up in January and putting a brave Christmassy face on for the kids. I wish for their sakes that it weren't so commercialised and ubiquitous.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/12/2018 19:41

Boxing Day walks are fine when the air is crisp and a wintry sun is shining. Fucking horrible when it’s windy, damp, drizzly or any combination thereof. Leave me at home with the sherry and the TV remote.
