It's all such a mess. I'm not a fan of Teresa May particularly, but I do think anyone would have struggled to make a success of Brexit after the referendum, so not entirely sure what replacing May will achieve. And also who on earth would replace her if the challenge is successful?

OP posts:

I've just said it's not about Brexit. Don't make it about that.

SusannahL · 12/12/2018 09:31

The really chilling aspect of this mess is that it could lead to a
general election and possibly allow in the most hard left Labour government in recent history.

Whatever anyone's opinions are of Boris Johnson, JRM etc, trust me, they are all preferable to that outcome.

Bowchicawowow · 12/12/2018 09:31

We only had a referendum so that David Cameron could shut up some of his backbenchers once and for all.

Well said Goldenwonderwall
I have a feeling us 70 million will not accept this. However the carnage to come will affect EVERYONE.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/12/2018 09:34

Democratic vote?

We had cambridge analytica illegally harvesting profiles from FB.

We had Aaron Banks funding the Leave campaign with money from don't know where yet/meeting with Russians.

The Leave campaign over spent illegally.

The Leave campaign lied: they said they'd be deals with the US from day one, they said it would be the easiest thing ever, they said Turkey was about to join the EU, and they had the bloody bus.

If that's your version of democracy, blimey.

Helmetbymidnight · 12/12/2018 09:36

Theresa May has so fucked this though.

She should have just stated:

Brexit screws GFA. Brexit screws the economy. Is this what you wanted? Take it back to the people. And see if that's what we really, really want.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/12/2018 09:37

Civil unrest will be a good thing. War focuses the mind.

Bloody hell, what’s wrong with you?

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 09:47

Nothing’s wrong with me. The extreme violence of the ruling class caused Brexit and we need those who have been systematically exploited and disenfranchised to frighten the ruling class into treating citizens as human beings rather than disposable employees.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 09:50

Obviously civil unrest is a terrible thing but No Deal Brexit would bring civil unrest when people can't get food.
So the Civil Unrest vs No Deal is basically A Pig vs Another Pig.

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2018 09:50

‘The people’ didn’t desire a bloody referendum, we would have gone on without thought completely fine
All Cameron’s doing

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/12/2018 09:52

You want to fight legislation that you see as extreme violence with actual riots that you see as constructive?

OK. Hmm

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 12/12/2018 09:54

Yeah im with chardonnay on this one user

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 09:55

It’s not legislation that is extreme violence. It’s the whole neoliberal paradigm that is extreme violence.

EmmaStone · 12/12/2018 09:56

I've written to my MP this morning (very prominent Brexiteer MP, despite his consitutency voting overwhelmingly to remain), imploring him to consider giving his support to his PM to avoid even more of a shitstorm. I don't expect much however, other than a stagnant economy, more austerity measures, and a weak pound.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 09:57

Oh @user1499173618 . Really not helping.

Russiawithlove · 12/12/2018 09:58

Rioting is going to happen it's so obvious. But it will be awful and just used as a reason to destroy.
The poorest will target the homes or businesses of anyone they deem to be richer.
And we have limited police. If it was like last time and co ordinated to happen in each major city at the same time it will be terrifying.

Like I said it's already trending on Twitter. Some people do not need much excuse.

AdamNichol · 12/12/2018 09:58

There is a view that substantial civil unrest, across many western nations, is on the horizon. Things like Brexit are a step towards this, but will not cause it by themselves.

We live in a time where 1% of people have more wealth than the bottom 80%. To put that another way, if 100 people made a 100 slice pizza, the first person takes 80 slices (because they own the oven it was baked in).

For those of us in the middle (developed nation, but not the ruling elite), the trend is to slide further towards commonality with developing nation citizens than towards sharing in the wealth.

One day the backlash will properly hit. But not today.

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 10:00

Think about it. The violence perpetrated on the planet, on humans, on animals is what caused Brexit, Trump, gilets jaunes.

user1499173618 · 12/12/2018 10:02

The sooner civil unrest occurs, the greater the chances of reversing what causes it.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 10:04

Speaking as a prepper, I would say that posts longing for civil unrest are childish fantasies.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/12/2018 10:05

Yes, a bit like the PPF during the Brown government then, user?

We’re they extremely violent too?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/12/2018 10:05

were

I didn’t mean to be grammatically violent here.

Justanotherlurker · 12/12/2018 10:06

The sooner civil unrest occurs, the greater the chances of reversing what causes it.

It is usually the people who talk like this about neoliberalism being the cause of all the world problems are the ones who support one of the biggest neoliberal projects going in which is the EU.

The whole world politics at the minute is a shit show, problem is that many people just see their "team" as good and the other as "evil"

Russiawithlove · 12/12/2018 10:07

It's not a fantasy if it's already happened. I do not in anyway long for it.
But the poorest of the poor..starving and homeless have nothing to lose do they.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2018 10:07

@Justanotherlurker - more silliness.
