Is there anybody here who voted 'leave' who now regrets it?

Just wondering.

I'm generally not a very political person but seeing the total mess which seems to have been created by the government following through on the vote to leave the EU.

I think that the sane thing is to say 'OK we made a mistake, please can we stay in the EU.

I guess they won't because it's following through on the vote.

I know a lot of people are saying there should be a second vote, but I think these are people who voted to remain in the first place.

I was wondering if there would be any backing for a second referendum (or simply a let's forget brexit) from anyone who originally voted to leave. Maybe it's not delivering as you expected? Do you think that the pro-brexit politicians misrepresented things to you and you'd vote differently if you had a second chance?

(PS name change if you're embarrassed !)

Brexit will not have much direct impact on me. My job is safe, as is my DPs job. Mortgage nearly paid off. I'm white, i have a job with good terms and conditions.

I will be impacted by Brexit when the economy tanks but I will get by.

I am outraged by Brexit because the poor and the dispossessed will be screwed. Racism will increase, this has already happened. The poor will become poorer. Those workers in need of protection will be stripped of their rights.

I am appalled by Brexit not on my own behalf but because it will be used as an excuse to impoverish swathes of the British public.

Is that selfish?

50 years of rampant European Integration and capitalism and still no jobs or money in the North West and North East. If you have no job or money IN the EU, there is at least the possibility that industriousness may make that possible in the future outside the EU. If the economy tanks, you've got way more to lose than the people you care so much about. So yes, I believe completely selfish for you and I, and everyone.

And on racism, I cannot answer. I don't see the link.

Moussemoose · 13/12/2018 21:20

Industriousness - with no rights. The TUC the only body in the U.K. that consistently fights for workers rights is campaigning against Brexit.

How come the EU is responsible for the decline in industry if it has not happened in other EU countries? If the EU was responsible then the French and the Germans would have no car manufacturers. If the EU was responsible then how come EU countries dominate global manufacturing rankings?

It's not the EU it's decisions made by U.K. governments. Started by Thatcher.

You don't see the link between Brexit and the rise in racist attacks? Then you are a fool or a liar.

The world economy is due to tank next year anyway but the remoaners will be happy to blame it on brexit Confused

Moussemoose · 13/12/2018 21:46

Well it depends if is the world economy or if the U.K. economy is impacted disproportionately.

What you do is look at the facts and make an assessment.

I would be thrilled if I am wrong. I am on these threads waiting for someone to give me a good reason and a well thought through argument what depresses me totally is absence of reasoned, logical arguments in favour of Brexit.

missesbiggens · 13/12/2018 21:51

There are plenty of logical, well thought out reasons for Brexit. You just aren't listening unless you like what you hear.

Moussemoose · 13/12/2018 22:16

I'm listening...

user1483972886 · 13/12/2018 22:28

I voted out not cos I'm a racist or stupid Confused or any of the other derogatory stereotypes. I voted out because I see it as a club that I believe is no longer in our best interest to be a member of. I am not anti European I am anti member of the EU. The EU is too big and through the euro some countries have benefited very nicely eg Germany. Other countries like Greece, Spain and Italy are in pretty dire economic straits. The EU is highly bureaucratic and corrupt. Southern Europe will soon go tits up like Greece and will be bailed out by the northern Europe who will call the shots and so it will go on until it comes to a crunching halt.
I rather get out whilst we can. Sure it will be a faff for a year or two. In the worst case we use wto rules like china. No big problem. Let's just Crack on and quit whining.

and at the far end of Slovakia, 50km from the Ukrainian border, they see the EU as a necessary buffer, the saviour that delivered them from communism.

They are the buffer! A nice physical buffer between Western Europe and Russia. As are Romania, Bulgaria and the Baltic states. Yes they may do very well as part of the EU but surely nobody thinks the EU gave such economic minnows membership solely out of the kindness of its heart?

Some may look at the economics and the fact that, as net receivers, they cost us. Others might think the cost of subbing them is worth it for the political advantage or the princple of helping other countries. Their economy is so tiny as to be irrelevant to us one way or the other.

Some good news on In Business: the Golden Opportunity. BBC Rado 4 programme earlier this evening. Talking about investment in the life sciences in Cambridge and elsewhere. Among others interviewed was the head of R&D of a Danish company that has invested in the UK since Brexit. He said something along the lines of Oxford University had been around for over 800 years and top class well before the EU existed and he reckoned they'd still be a great opportunity for world class research. Brexit uncertainty but not a gamechanger.

missesbiggens · 13/12/2018 23:23

Just heard ont he news that quantitive easing has ended in the Eurozone today. Hold on to your hats and thank brexiteers of the past everyday that we managed to swerve the euro.

ragged · 14/12/2018 04:16

PR-China has a lot of trade deals.

Including bilateral ones with UK. (someone explain to me how that is)

bellinisurge · 14/12/2018 07:07

Bilateral ones that are tied to us being members of the EU.

MissEliza · 14/12/2018 07:10

That wasn't down to Brexiteers of the past. That was down to Gordon Brown as chancellor who insisted on staying out. He's no Brexiteer.
