Just started rewatching DS9 on netflix.

Did start to watch discovery but couldn't get into it

OP posts:

Yes DS9! Think it's generally regarded as a bit boring-basically it's someone trying to run a shopping centre-cum-airport; the Ferengis are anti Semitic caricatures and the whole thing takes a massive downturn when Kiera gets together with a total drip. Still has a place on my heart! Do love a bit of TNG as well, but it's a good bit older.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/12/2018 16:13

DS9. I see the problem with the Ferengi, but I argue that they're less of an offensive one-dimensional stereotype on DS9 than they are on TNG.

NewGrandad · 06/12/2018 16:15

The original series was the best.

But then again Jon Pertwee was the best Doctor.

It's an age thing.

While I love the original series the first one I watched was TNG and that holds a special place in my heart.
Voyager was good once it got going but I hated DS9 and much preferred Babylon 5 (controversial I know)

PoisonousSmurf · 06/12/2018 16:16

Was getting into Discovery, but it finished when it finally got interesting!
But out of all the series it was DS9.

Babdoc · 06/12/2018 16:17

For me, it will always be the original series - I saw it when it was first screened in the 1960’s, and I’ve had a massive crush on Mr Spock ever since! It was ground breaking in its day - NASA even suspected them of pinching details of things like remote telemetry diagnostic beds in McCoy’s sick bay, and we know they stimulated the invention of the mobile phone with their communicators!
I’m virtually word perfect on the scripts of my favourite episodes, have all three series of it on dvd and watch it daily. I’m autistic and it’s one of my major obsessions.
I’ve watched some of the spin offs (like next gen and voyager) with DD, but found them not a patch on the original.
I think Discovery suffers from being big budget- they feel obliged to go for special effects, sometimes to the detriment of plot. And it annoys me when they get things wrong, like Harry Mudd being older than his own younger self who appears “later” in TOS.
Which was your favourite, OP?

hazeyjane · 06/12/2018 16:20

The original. Definitely.

But I do love Picard too.

hazeyjane · 06/12/2018 16:21

I like the new films too...

EffOrf · 06/12/2018 16:21

The original which I watched in the 1960s

beenandgoneandbackagain · 06/12/2018 16:26

Voyager - Janeway was the best Captain ever.

NineNine · 06/12/2018 16:28

I only ever watched TNG. I don’t know if I’ll watch the new one with Picard.

NineNine · 06/12/2018 16:30

Oh that’s not true, I’ve been watching the new ones as well. Discovery.

Gatekeeper · 06/12/2018 16:32

Next Generation for me...bloody love Worf

nipersvest · 06/12/2018 16:39

love TNG Borg episodes, favorite is definitely Voyager, also quite liked the new movie reboot with Chris Pine as Kirk.

PawneeParksDept · 06/12/2018 16:41

I'm more of a casual Trekkie than a knowledgeable one but I did love the new series

Jason Isaacs as a baddie - what's not to love?!

51Pegasusb · 06/12/2018 16:41

TNG ( I cried buckets at the end) closely followed by DS9 which started slow but then turned rather epic I thought..

Loved B5, really enjoyed it and still do..

GrumpyOldMare · 06/12/2018 16:44

This ^^^

Not watched it for ages. Not keen on the spin offs.

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 06/12/2018 16:46

Next generation of course.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 06/12/2018 16:48

Voyager then TNG. I love them both but Voyager slightly more (nothing to do with the huge crush I had on Tom ParisBlush)

MephistophelesApprentice · 06/12/2018 16:54

Loved TNG, I don't think you can enjoy the others without appreciating it deeply, but DS9 is my favourite.

What? You've caused a political crisis and might start a war? Well, you're on a space station, so you can't just fly off into the sunset, you've got to deal with the goddamn consequences.

Benjamin Sisko, the officer who punched Q because he was irritating, gassed a planet to capture a terrorist and framed the Dominion for the murder of a neutral diplomat to fight a war. A whole series of moral nuance. A woman-to-woman snog I didn't even register as titillating because I was fully caught up in scene.

All the characters and their arcs were epic. Dr Bashir and Garrick. Odo and Quark. Worf and Jadzia (what an incredible character!). Kira and her faith. Kai Winn and Gul Dukat.

The episode set in the 50s scifi magazine made me so incredibly sad and angry.

What a series.

Lumisade · 06/12/2018 16:57

Voyager! I love Janeway so much.

Tried to get into DS9 but got angry when they'd find interesting scientific anomalies and then just destroy them. Not what Janeway would have done!

Love Star Trek Disco as well, and TNG obviously.

toolazytothinkofausername · 06/12/2018 17:00

Love TNG and Voyager. I've never watched DS9, should I give it a go?

Afternoonteaandicecream · 06/12/2018 17:15

Got to be the original series. Used to watch it on bbc2 in the 90s as a kid with my dad and loved it Smile

Sallygoroundthemoon · 06/12/2018 17:18

It will always be TNG even though I grew up on the original series. I have a major crush on Data and Patrick Stewart is exceptional as Picard.

bsc · 06/12/2018 17:23

TNG
I used to fancy Ryker... but re-watching I was horrified, and it's all about Picard for me now!
