Just started rewatching DS9 on netflix.

Did start to watch discovery but couldn't get into it

HashTagLil · 06/12/2018 20:00

STTNG for me, although have watched DS9, Voyager and the original series.

MulderitsmeX · 06/12/2018 20:01

Voyager! I love Janeway, she's so cool and strong, I actually did a rewatch on Netflix recently.

2nd choice DS9 it was quite good with character development which voyager wasn't so much and I really liked Dax.

strawberrypenguin · 06/12/2018 20:06

Probably DS9 but I have a soft spot for TNG as well.
Voyager is OK and grows on me as I watch it.
Enterprise was awful.
Enjoyed the first season of Discovery be interesting to see what happens with the second.
Not really a fan of the originals but like some of the films especially Voyage Home.

I've just started watching it with DH and the DC. I'd never seen any of it before. I liked most of next generation except the films but we started series 4 of Voyager today and it's surprisingly good.

mummyhaschangedhername · 06/12/2018 20:08

TNG or voyager. I had a massive crush on Tom Paris when I was a child 😂

ByeGermsByeWorries · 06/12/2018 20:09

DS9 and voyager for me :)

chrisrobin · 06/12/2018 20:17

TNG closely followed by Voyager. DH loves DS9 but, while I do watch them with him, I'm not as keen.

Figmentofimagination · 06/12/2018 20:25

TNG, voyager and Enterprise. Had a massive crush on Trip Tucker. Couldn't get into DS9, didn't watch a lot of the original series (but seen all the movies), and not watched discovery yet.

In regards to the movies, my favourite is Generations.

Sethis · 06/12/2018 20:33

I'm honestly surprised by the Voyager love, it was the most-trashed series by fans apart from Enterprise. Rule No.1 of Star Trek Fandom is we don't talk about Enterprise...

Janeway could be good sometimes, in kickass mode especially "Get the hell off my ship" et al, but seemed to spend most of her time doing this breathy sympathy voice nonsense when she should have been kicking that person up the arse. They did, however, write an exceptional relationship between her and Seven with the Mother/Daughter trope which had previously been completely unexplored and was one of the main reasons I put up with Seven and her skintight catsuit.

KismetHardie · 06/12/2018 20:58

Who was that sodding elfmaiden who knocked about with Neelix. Awful. Agree that Wesley was a bit nauseating but otherwise there were no bad characters in TNG and they had Data. Re-watched a bit recently and was quite struck by all the blacking up-yes it's Klingon but it's pretty uncomfortable!

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 06/12/2018 21:40

Kes was the Ocampa with Neelix.

I named my eldest from a name in TNG that I'd never heard before. He's 19.

It suddenly became really popular and can be found on every Mumsnet thread about worst names and "chav" names. Hmm

After a few times of trying I finally managed to get my kids into Star Trek. Yay!

I wish I'd called one of them Zefram. That's the coolest name ever. My favourite film is First Contact!

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/12/2018 21:52

Eh, I'm not saying there aren't legitimate flaws to be found with Voyager, but as a whole, it's not a coincidence that the most criticised series is the one with the female captain. There is a definite undertone to it sometimes.

BadLad · 06/12/2018 22:06

Voyager was good in parts - The Year Of Hell is a great two-parter.

Kate Mulgrew was excellent, but it could have been so much worse. Have a look at the actress originally intended to be Janeway.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/12/2018 22:18

The thing that pulled the show down the most for me at the time of first watching was the writing for Chakotay. Awfull. His defining feature was "Native American". They were going for "in the future, all human cultures are preserved and valued", but it tipped over into racist stereotyping.

Wolfcub · 06/12/2018 22:20

Deep Space Nine. Enterprise second

HoundOfTheBasketballs · 06/12/2018 22:36

Until recently I would have said Voyager, but I've recently rewatched all of DS9 (indoctrinating DS) and it was so much better than I remembered it. Some really good characters.
We have now moved on and are watching Voyager, which isn't as good as I remember. Although I do still love Janeway.

Once DS and I are through with all the Star Treks I'm going to introduce him to Stargate SG1 and Battlestar Galactica. I'm so glad he likes his sci-fi!

ginghamstarfish · 06/12/2018 22:38

The original of course!

BadLad · 07/12/2018 00:32

The original is good as long as you approach it with the view that you're watching theatre rather than TV.

My wife likes the original series - she thought it was old hat until McCoy (I think) came up to Kirk brandishing an alien creature, which he'd found on the planet. The alien promptly barked, and licked its nose.

Sethis · 07/12/2018 01:11

@HoundOfTheBasketballs

How old is DS? Battlestar is a fantastic series but the reboot was extremely dark in places - specifically the episode with attempted rape, but also a few others. I found it extremely unsettling to watch even as a guy in his mid 20s at the time.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2018 01:38

Why choose when you can have box sets of them all?Grin I grew up with the original ... you can't really compare it with the others.

the whole thing takes a massive downturn when Kiera gets together with a total drip.
I do hope that wasn't a description of Odo!ShockGrin

The 'mirror universe' episodes in DS9 annoyed me - mostly unnecessary padding, a distraction. More interesting in Discovery... looking forward to series 2.

RamblinRosie · 07/12/2018 01:50

Enterprise is rubbish, mainly because it wasn’t true to the ethos of the others. No Roddenberry in charge.

I loved all the others, they were all of time, but they had a moral story to tell.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 07/12/2018 08:28

I love whichever I'm watching at the time! Then I'm bereft it finished, then get into the next one sharpish.

thegreylady · 07/12/2018 08:32

For me TNG was unbeatable mainly because of Patrick Stewart though all the characters are so well rounded even Data the Android.

Hemlock2013 · 07/12/2018 08:40

Ds9 is the more watchable for me. I love the war and how the whole series builds up to it. The characters are brilliant. So shady, all of them.

Tng is great but a bit wholesome next to ds9.

Really love the new Netflix one...

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2018 08:56

We worked through all available series and films while DD was a teen... I think we missed out precisely one TNG episode because the blurb said it was a Q one and we'd frankly had enough of him at that point.
