WTF is this thing on my back?

On Saturday night a really sore lump appeared right on that little bit of my back I can't reach. Felt like a really sore spot, but since then has got bigger and more painful. I can't lie on my back, and anything touching it is agony. It's red and sore all the time and is enormous (relatively speaking of course).

My DD has had a look at it and says there's no head on it so it can't be squeezed.

I'm tempted to go to the minor injuries unit at the local hospital but don't want to waste their time if it is just a spot.

I took a pic of it last night in the bathroom mirror and it's so bloody big that it's got its own shadow! Sad

Any advice?

Photos please!
Sounds as if something is brewing under there and you need to tempt it up. Have you tried a hot flannel on it? Sudocrem can help too.
You’ll need someone who isn’t squeamish to give it a good pop and clean.

If you upload the picture it might be helpful for us to guess?

Picture might be an abscess that needs draining

Unicornandbows · 04/12/2018 09:09

Yeah looks like it needs to be popped

ChaircatMiaow · 04/12/2018 09:10

Hmmm, it might be a cyst. You might need a dermatologist to clean it out.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 04/12/2018 09:10

Its bright red this morning, and so painful that I feel sick!

Looks juicy. Can you get to a GP?

SomethingAboutNothing · 04/12/2018 09:12

That is quite big! I don't think it would be unreasonable to get it seen by a medical professional at all.

CoraPirbright · 04/12/2018 09:13

I think minor injuries would be ok with that. It isnt ‘just a spot’ so I dont think you need to feel like you are wasting their time. Also I bet it hurts like hell if you roll on it in the night and my GP surgery will always try and squeeze you in if something is affecting your sleep.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 04/12/2018 09:15

Just contorted myself into a position to get a better pic. Enjoy 😖

Cora I can't sleep on my back because of it. Every time I moved in bed last night I woke up.

I had similar on my bum recently. I had a hot shower and massaged the area and then popped it. It was a little difficult and slightly painful but not has painful as if I was to leave it.

Although I'm not expert and if you're concerned you should see your GP.

DoingMyBest2010 · 04/12/2018 09:21

it's a boil, very painful. Best to get it seen to.

gamerchick · 04/12/2018 09:22

It looks like it needs bopped. You would probably feel better then. Go and get it seen too, you can't deal with that yourself.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 04/12/2018 09:23

Right, I'll go to the minor injuries unit later and report back. (Back! See what I did there? 😖)

Ohyesiam · 04/12/2018 09:24

It’s a boil. Get magnesium sulphate paste from chemist and apply. Then put a hot flannel on it, and pop it.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 04/12/2018 09:24

gamerchick it definitely does need bopped Smile

OP posts:
CallMeRachel · 04/12/2018 09:25

It looks like a cyst, don't try and pop it.

Get someone to put a warm compress on it to try and draw it and some Magnesium Sulphate paste.

Looks painful!

I wouldn't go to gp unless it gets infected, most pharmacies have a minor ailment walk in service, I'd go there.

gamerchick · 04/12/2018 09:26

And while you're on, get a packet of Epsom salts, bung half in your washing machine to get rid of the staphylococcus.

pumpastrotter · 04/12/2018 10:03

I'm one of those sickos who love watching these things get popped! Kind of want you to record it, OP Grin. Agree with the PPs about it being a boil/broken down cyst that needs draining, hope they get it sorted for you.

bananamonkey · 04/12/2018 11:20

Don't try and do it yourself. My mum had a similar looking huge cyst on her back that the GP tried to remove but it turned out to be much deeper than he'd anticipated and it was awful. She had to get back to get the wound re-packed every day, it was a total faff.

My back boob and I have been to the GP, she said it's an abscess that needs to be incised and drained. 😱🤢🤮 She's arranged for me to see a surgeon at 9am tomorrow morning, she's also given me ABs. I shall report back afterwards, with photos for all the sporners.

Glad it’s being dealt with so quickly OP.
And not At all excited about more pics. Nope. Not at all.
