WTF is this thing on my back?

On Saturday night a really sore lump appeared right on that little bit of my back I can't reach. Felt like a really sore spot, but since then has got bigger and more painful. I can't lie on my back, and anything touching it is agony. It's red and sore all the time and is enormous (relatively speaking of course).

My DD has had a look at it and says there's no head on it so it can't be squeezed.

I'm tempted to go to the minor injuries unit at the local hospital but don't want to waste their time if it is just a spot.

I took a pic of it last night in the bathroom mirror and it's so bloody big that it's got its own shadow! Sad

Any advice?

DH had the exact same thing. He wouldn't go to get it done tho. So I did it DIY at home. Mag sulph and how flannel for a couple of nights and then it happened. It popped and oodles of gunk came out. He was so relived. I had to squeeze it twice a day for a couple of day until it eventually dried up. It really was a thing of beauty

Troy I am absolutely going to try that next time I need to.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 06/12/2018 00:26

Surgeon said the sac couldn't be removed while it was so inflamed. If I want to, I can go back and get the sac removed once it settles down.

Nice to have something to look forward to!!

Glad it's less sore today.

InvisibleToEveryone · 06/12/2018 09:47

You need to have the sac removed, otherwise it's just refills and you're back to square one.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 06/12/2018 11:07

Oh my god, I don't think I could go through this again. I now haven't slept properly since Saturday and woke up again in agony this morning. I feel very sorry for myself today as it's still so painful (different kind of pain than before). 😥

If t was pus filled and smelly, that suggests the cyst had broken down, so if you're lucky the sac will have come out in pieces with the rest of the gunk. Fingers crossed.

I had an epic one in my armpit. I actually have photos of it before, after and then stitched up Grin

cjt110 · 06/12/2018 12:05

My friend had a similar wound on her back, around bra strap level which was left open but she had to have it packed daily with seaweed. I made her get the nurse to take photos for me GrinBlush

Ollivander84 · 06/12/2018 12:22

Hang on, I may be over my photos limit but will try

Ollivander84 · 06/12/2018 12:26

Ok so
First pic - where the abscess was, this was originally an indented scar, you can see the redness along my upper arm and down to my boob, that's how infected it was
Second pic - post GA, straight out of theatre
Third pic - 8 MONTHS later after I kicked off (I don't heal wounds) that I wasn't living with a hole under my arm any long and stitch the damn thing. This took 1.5hrs to make a skin flap under local

Some lovely pictures on this thread.

I hope the pain subsides soon, OP.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 06/12/2018 12:38

Oh Jesus Christ

Ollivander84 · 06/12/2018 13:13

I can't actually describe the pain from the armpit one apart from I couldn't put my arm down at all and they gave me morphine Grin

RunningFeisty · 06/12/2018 13:36

My brother had something like that on his back as well he had to have drained and was given antibiotics as well. He showed me a picture..post drainage... I did not need to see it Grin

eurochick · 06/12/2018 13:49

I had a sebaceous cyst removed with local anaesthetic. You are nails to just have had freeze spray!

glitterelf · 06/12/2018 15:58

@Ollivander84 Shockthat's shocking you had to wait that long. My husband had to have an emergency op of his cyst before his emergency back surgery and they left that open Confused

DoNotTouchTheTree · 06/12/2018 16:46

Those are shocking pics 🙈
Thankfully there was no delay in getting mine dealt with, I went to the GP on Tuesday at 5.00pm and was at the hospital at 9.00am next morning.

Ollivander84 · 06/12/2018 22:53

@EffYouSeeKaye it was SO tight and painful. They said "ooh no, not ready to drain, doesn't seem infected"
Me "GA. drain. It. Now"

StealthNinjaMum · 06/12/2018 23:02
