WTF is this thing on my back?

On Saturday night a really sore lump appeared right on that little bit of my back I can't reach. Felt like a really sore spot, but since then has got bigger and more painful. I can't lie on my back, and anything touching it is agony. It's red and sore all the time and is enormous (relatively speaking of course).

My DD has had a look at it and says there's no head on it so it can't be squeezed.

I'm tempted to go to the minor injuries unit at the local hospital but don't want to waste their time if it is just a spot.

I took a pic of it last night in the bathroom mirror and it's so bloody big that it's got its own shadow! Sad

Any advice?

Cheers stealthninjamum Smile

The pain has definitely settled down, but looked a bit funky when the dressing was removed last night. Hoping it's not going to give me any bother with infection etc. Last night's pic ▶️▶️▶️

That's looking rather good Smile glad the pain has eased.

Does anyone know why or how these things occur?

@Elfontheshelfiswatchingyoutoo I have Hidradenitis supprativa which is an incurable condition that causes abscesses

MegaClutterSlut · 07/12/2018 22:00

this Maybe a bit tmi but I've had abscess on the top of my arse crack before. I could only sleep on my front. One morning as I woke, I stuck my arse in the air in preparation of trying to get out of the bed and it ripped open pouring all over the back off legs Blush it was bloody vile smelling

FoxInForrest · 07/12/2018 22:07

@DoNotTouchTheTree that looks like art. Like a demure eye looking down with a (slightly puss like) tear drop sliding down the cheek.

Walkingthroughawall · 07/12/2018 22:44

To clarify re. local anaesthetics as there seems to be some confusion ... local works for excising small cysts that are not infected or inflamed. Inflamed/infected tissue has a lower pH than normal tissue and that means that the anaesthetic will remain in a form that will not work on the nerve fibres it needs to work on. Ethyl chloride spray may work but you need to use a lot of it.

penisbeakers · 07/12/2018 23:08

That surgeon is an idiot. It could have been numbed with the sac removed.

I would have loved to see the pusplosion. I'm sorry you're in and have been in so much pain though. That's the not fun part.

penisbeakers · 07/12/2018 23:16

@MegaClutterSlut sounds like you had a pilonidal cyst there. They're so painful. Did it go down or did you have to get it looked at?

Ollivander84 · 07/12/2018 23:28

@Walkingthroughawall that's what they said with mine that the infection was raging so they just knock me out now for them Grin
The 1.5hrs of local with plastics was not fun. I made a comment about redheads being bleeders. Surgeon "mmmm. Yes. Well, you are"

GinandGingerBeer · 07/12/2018 23:50

@DoNotTouchTheTree it does look like you're reacting to the plaster/dressing though, so keep an eye on that. You might need a different dressing.

halfwitpicker · 07/12/2018 23:54

My eyes! My eyes!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 07/12/2018 23:56

I had an abcess on my inner thigh (ruined my porn career). Very sore and inflamed. He injected the "surrounds" with local anaesthetic. FML the pain of those injections...

AlrightBabby · 08/12/2018 00:10

I had a large cyst implode on my back, so nothing came out it all went in. When I had surgery to drain it and get rid of the mess, the surgery absolutely stank, I was so embarrassed Blush

Then apparently it 'travelled' and set up somewhere else further down my back so I had to go through it again.

Ollivander84 · 08/12/2018 00:30

My armpit one was originally an abscess before. It's a long story but they said not ready to lance and I did it myself and boy, it was ready BlushEnvy
That left a hole, about 6 months later they stitched it and made a right mess of it because they stitched in a straight line and too tight
Then I developed the abscess in the photos and they left the hole for 8 months this time Hmm and I asked for plastics to look at it

DoNotTouchTheTree · 09/12/2018 00:48

ginandgingerbeer I think you're right, it's really itchy where the dressings have been.

Still improving, pic from tonight attached🤞🏼

Can we have more stories from people whose pus hit the ceiling please!!

Notonaschoolnight · 09/12/2018 08:22

Sorry haven’t read all thread but having never really having bother with my skin I started to develop cystic acne on my back as I approached 40 I presume due to hormonal changes I struggled for 18 month not knowing what to do useless lotions and potions stupidly prodding and poking not realising I was making it worse and causing scars. I’m not normally a supplement person but I read up and ended up taking fish oil and zinc everyday I swear I works
