WTF is this thing on my back?

On Saturday night a really sore lump appeared right on that little bit of my back I can't reach. Felt like a really sore spot, but since then has got bigger and more painful. I can't lie on my back, and anything touching it is agony. It's red and sore all the time and is enormous (relatively speaking of course).

My DD has had a look at it and says there's no head on it so it can't be squeezed.

I'm tempted to go to the minor injuries unit at the local hospital but don't want to waste their time if it is just a spot.

I took a pic of it last night in the bathroom mirror and it's so bloody big that it's got its own shadow! Sad

Any advice?

Ask if there are stitches they can use that don’t itch. I had a large clogged pore a doc opened and put in a few stitches. I was sorry I bothered cause the stitches drove me crazy! and they stayed in a week.

My dh had one like that on his back. He bent down to spit toothpaste in the sink and it popped and hit the ceiling. He didn’t even notice. I noticed all this bloody sludge spattered on the ceiling hours laterShock

No ohyes, kinda disappointed about that, but he said he "got a few ml from it". 🤮😷

Omg!! I squeezed a spot in DD's ear last week and I'm still reliving it. Imagine having an actual paid job where you get to do that as a living!

Hope it is feeling better op

EduCated · 05/12/2018 22:30

Oh my word, that is a beauty. I bow down to your back boob growing and not passing out skills.

Aceinthehole · 05/12/2018 22:34

Blaaaady Hell!!! 😍😍😍

madcatladyforever · 05/12/2018 22:34

Looks like a big infected spider bite to me.

BibiThree · 05/12/2018 22:35

If you have to go back, insist on them trying LA. I had a pus-filled, infected cyst removed from the back of my neck with LA put into the surrounding areas, they also stitched a drain in so it wouldn't fill back up. Apart from the initial injections I didn't feel a thing.
Picture for your delectation. Excuse the greasy hair but I'd also had two non infection cysts removed from my scalp and hadn't been able to wash my hair.

Hofuckingho · 05/12/2018 22:35

He lied to you. Local anaesthetic does work for cysts. I used to work in a minor procedures clinic and we did lumps, bumps and cysts all with local. I would complain before he butchers anyone else.

bumblenbean · 05/12/2018 22:36

IamMummy that really made me chuckle, sorry! Grin

Hope you’re not in too much pain OP!

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 05/12/2018 22:37

Yup , my dh has had many sebaceous cysts removed under local.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 05/12/2018 22:39

That's interesting thanks hofuckingho. I wouldn't say he butchered me though. I don't imagine he'd have done anything different with the cyst with LA or without. I guess the outcome would be the same.

I can't believe they did that to you without a local anaesthetic. It absolutely does work although not quite as well when there is infection involved.

You are brave OP!

DoNotTouchTheTree · 05/12/2018 22:47

I think what he said was that injecting LA into an already tender and tight area of skin could make it more painful and wouldn't necessarily numb the cyst. It's done now and so much less painful than before.

ReanimatedSGB · 05/12/2018 22:51

Ick. That's a big boil, and you need proper medical attention for it. Don't muck about with home remedies, or you could give yourself a potentially dangerous infection.

Petalflowers · 05/12/2018 22:51

Back boob ! Made me chuckle.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 05/12/2018 22:52

If it was a cyst wouldn't he have had to remove it in the sac? If he just drained it then the cyst must still be in there?

If it was just pus then you could have lanced it at home with a sterilised needle then got a glass bottle and fillies it with very hot water then tipped out and the open neck of the hot bottle placed over it making good contact with the surrounding skin. As the bottle cools a vacuum is created and the pus is sucked into the bottle.
