Never thought about this but we never lock the door other than when we go to bed.
Talking to friends it seems that this is quite unusual , is it ?

Never lock mine either (apart from going to bed) I don’t lock it if I’m popping to the shop either.

Front door is always locked, it opens onto a short path and gate onto pavement. (Residential street). Back door is usually locked unless we’re in and out in the garden.

toastymarshmallowss · 24/11/2018 22:27

Yes, people walking into houses to snatch and grab during the day has become much more common.

Fairylea · 24/11/2018 22:28

Always locked here, I used to live in south London and we had 3 locks on the front door and a chain! Even though I don’t live in South London anymore I still lock it, I wouldn’t feel safe otherwise.

redsummershoes · 24/11/2018 22:28

not locked, but we have a yale lock, so it can't be opened from outside without key.
if we had a different lock/handle we would keep it locked.

NorthEndGal · 24/11/2018 22:29

Front door locked, back door unlocked unless its windy.
My friends just come on in with a holler, it's how I prefer it, so I don't have to run back and forth to the door. It also helps if I have my music on too loud to hear the door go, which often happens when I'm working.
Or I'll be using power tools and wouldn't hear them anyhow.

toffee1000 · 24/11/2018 22:29

Our front door is of the type where if it’s closed, it’s locked.

TowerRingInferno · 24/11/2018 22:31

Not locked but you can’t get in without a key.

Notso · 24/11/2018 22:32

Always locked for two reasons.
There's been lots of thefts in my area where they've just walked in and grabbed whatever's closest.
I like a bit of warning when visitors arrive, my parents and in laws would just walk in.

IncomingCannonFire · 24/11/2018 22:32

Yep. Once had a sneak thief grab a bag from the kitchen while I was in the room next door. Different house (city terraced), but lesson learnt.
Back door is open in summer, but 6ft gate is locked.
Parents house they never locked the back door.

Aquamarine1029 · 24/11/2018 22:33

My doors are always locked. You must live in a rose-coloured fantasy world not to. Your home is your protection.

IncomingCannonFire · 24/11/2018 22:33

Also don't want toddler to get out.

Frlrlrubert · 24/11/2018 22:33

Yale on the front (would lock it if not at night), we don't always lock the back but you'd have to go through neighbours gardens, over 6 foot fences and past the dogs to get to it.

Witchend · 24/11/2018 22:34

Front always locked.
Side always locked
Back unlocked if I'm sitting in the garden or it's hot and I'm in the living room.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 24/11/2018 22:35

The only time ours is locked is bedtime, when we're on holiday and when I very rarely need a daytime shower when I'm alone with the 4 year olds.

Unlocked all day typically, never ever locked when i go nursery run, swimming, shopping etc.

Cuzcothellama · 24/11/2018 22:39

We live in a cul de sac and I always lock the door. Mainly to keep DDs in!

GlassSuppers · 24/11/2018 22:39

Always locked here. When we first moved in out toddler opened the front door and the porch door and was half way down the drive before I caught her!

Locked to keep people out and also to keep her in!

sausagepastapot · 24/11/2018 22:40

Always locked. Lots of burglaries in my area of late.

OrcinusOrca · 24/11/2018 22:42

Front and back always locked. I have dogs which makes me more cautious.

CS12345 · 24/11/2018 22:43

God yes, I wouldn't dream of leaving my doors unlocked and I live in a nice area.

nancy75 · 24/11/2018 22:44

Front door locks in its own, back door locked unless I’m in the garden. Downstairs interior doors locked at night/ when I’m out. My parents had a particularly nasty burglary when they were in the house so I don’t take any chances

Angelinthenight · 24/11/2018 22:45

Mine are always locked better to be safe esp nowadays x

Believeitornot · 24/11/2018 22:45

Yes - well the fromt door locks automatically as it’s on a latch. So you need a key to get in.

My backdoor needs to be actively locked - so I will make sure it is unless I’m gardening or something.

SeaSandLandSky · 24/11/2018 22:45

Yes, always ,and good job too. Was sat in the room one morning last week when I heard the door handle being moved down, and thought it was my partner arriving home. Then handle was then shaken a couple more times, before it then went quiet.
So thinking DP had forgotten his key I opened the door....and no-one there. Potential burglar methinks!

Armchairanarchist · 24/11/2018 22:47

Never and rarely lock it when I'm going out.
