I think it's nice enough, it's not what I was expecting and didn't make me cry like a JL Christmas Ad should do

OP posts:
Jasharps · 15/11/2018 06:50

I loved it and it made me cry

Yutes · 15/11/2018 06:51

It’s a lovely sentiment but I feel like it’s all about Elton John. It doesn’t make me want to have a whimsical look through catalogs or anything

BestIsWest · 15/11/2018 06:52

That made me properly sob!

greyspottedgoose · 15/11/2018 06:55

It's a lovely advert but it doesn't give me that warm Christmassy fuzzy feeling inside. I really like Sainsbury's ad this year

AgathaRaisinDetra · 15/11/2018 06:55

I didn't know John Lewis sold pianos.

HoraceWimple · 15/11/2018 06:56

It’s just an advert. I can’t get excited about a company trying to get me to spend money with them.

itsnowthewaitinggame · 15/11/2018 06:58

It's lovely.

vandrew4 · 15/11/2018 07:01

can't be arsed looking. i take it they've done their usual thing of sentimental shite to get you to cry? How that translates into making me buy stuff from their shops I'm not sure

Redglitter · 15/11/2018 07:01

Over rated and over hyped as usual. Great tribute to Elton but as a Christmas ad totally misses the mark

EleanorLavish · 15/11/2018 07:02

Oh, that’s proper teary.
But just not christmassy enough for me.
Shall we ever climb the heady heights of what the boy bought his mum again??Grin

oh4forkssake · 15/11/2018 07:02

I really like it. But we’ve just bought a piano (not in JL)

ShotsFired · 15/11/2018 07:03

What a peculiar advert! I mean, it's not offensive or anything, and quite interesting to see EJ's history like that, but it just seems a bit...pointless?

Why the EJ love-in particularly? It reminds me of those amazing (BBC?) idents where they showcased dozens of artists all singing a line of a song.

(And who for the love of god did his make up and left his neck and entirely different colour?!)

Fairylea · 15/11/2018 07:05

Hmm I am a bit fed up with Elton being all over everything all of a sudden. He’s got a film about him coming out and there’s tons of stuff about him all over the media at the mo- do we really need an ad with him in it as well?

I think the ads are always better when they stick to the whole unknown actor kids / family thing. As that’s what Christmas is about to most people.

DoveSecret · 15/11/2018 07:08

Nice idea but a tribute to EJ and it was boring.

Does he have an album to sell?

mummagirl · 15/11/2018 07:10

As a mummy whose children have just left their teens, this made me cry .....memories of Christmas when they were little

namechangedyetagain · 15/11/2018 07:14

That did make me sob. But only because I lost my younger brother a couple of months ago and he loved EJ.This Christmas is going to be bloody hard - first in his 42 years we're not together.

Not a terribly festive ad though.

Notso · 15/11/2018 07:20

That song makes me cry because it reminds me of my late Grandma.
As a Christmas advert it's not very Christmassy, but hopefully the fact it's mostly Elton John and a piano will mean there isn't a whole load of merchandise off the back of it.

Lightsdown · 15/11/2018 07:21

I.liked it but it did seem a bit like an advert for the new Elton John movie - every time I've been to the cinema recently I've seen the trailer- as many people will- and all the stage shots and edits are quite similar

DollyWilde · 15/11/2018 07:25

Sorry, I don’t like it Sad and I’m usually a huge JL Xmas Ad fan...

I don’t like Elton John, it doesn’t feel Christmassy, Your Song already got an outing for the JL ad (Ellie Goulding’s cover) and it didn’t make me cry, which is the most important thing. And I cried at the Bohemian Rhapsody JL ad earlier this year!

The best JL ad is Monty the Penguin

Scrumptiousbears · 15/11/2018 07:28

It made me cry and I love it. Didn't have high hopes at the beginning though. The last two weren't very good IMO.

SoyDora · 15/11/2018 07:35

My 5 year old has just started piano lessons and I’m heavily pregnant so it tugged on my heartstrings a bit...
