Mine is things aren't always as they seem behind closed doors.
Basically I try never to be jealous of people because you can never tell what people's lives are really like. There is always a skeleton...

Look back with thanks, look forward with hope

Don't set yourself on fire to keep others warm

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 14/11/2018 12:07

Those that mind don't matter and those that matter don't mind.
This too shall pass.

Regret nothing

@JosephineDupont That's so great that your family promoted being average! Love they said about boring being cool ..too rightGrin...so refreshing compared to all the "go for it, you can do anything!" "Be the best!"...all very stressful and unrealistic.

@TimeWoundsAllHeals...I'd never heard this idea of the 'joy of being average' until a few years ago...from a CBT book!... I adopted the idea straight away! I also wish I'd known about this when younger.

Do the right thing is the one I say to myself daily

But there are two passed down to me that make me smile

  1. from a former boss about work “ Remember Grindah it’s all bollocks”
  2. from my late Dad “Remember Grindah all men are bastards”

Perfectionism is the enemy of productivity, aim for 'good enough'

Let not the sun go down on your wrath

You've just reminded me of mine; "Done is better than perfect" :)

I always remember my nan and great aunt took me to South port for the day when I was around 7 anyway we were sitting on a bench and child-like I guess I was Mithering and pestering "Can we go the fair now". Anyway my aunt said. " Oh Spider don't be say impatient. 'Its better to look forward and be excited about something that for it be over and done with' and as little as I was That struck a cord with me.

Happiness is a choice.

And, the entire “desiderata”

Treat others as you would like to be treated.

It doesn't hurt to smile and say hello.

So many elderly people love this - I try to smile and acknowledge people. Especially in mornings on way to work.
