A few of you may have had a DH/DP since then. Wink

Not me, quite. But it struck me last night that my favourite fluffy Christy bath towel is now 20 yrs old.

So is a watch I wear every day that my parents bought me.

A couple of baking trays too.

They've stood the test of time.

Can you tell me what I need to add to my indestructible domestic list?

Many thanks.

A Babyliss hairdryer. It smells a bit of burning when I use it now though, so I don't think it'll last much longer...

clary · 04/11/2018 21:00

Oh and my le creuset casserole is used once or twice a week and I bought it before I met Dh (which was in 1990 so it's getting on for 30).

FrangipaniBlue · 04/11/2018 21:01

Our Zanussi condenser dryer and Dyson hoover were both bought when we moved into our house in 2000, so both almost 19yrs old!

FrangipaniBlue · 04/11/2018 21:02

Also my mums singer sewing machine which is older than me (I'm 37)

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 04/11/2018 21:03

My electric whisk thing that was on my parents wedding list 33 years ago. Still going strong!

FrancesFryer · 04/11/2018 21:03

Cuddly toy

This is like the generation gameGrinGrin

AnneElliott · 04/11/2018 21:04

I have a thing that holds towels that we got in 1998. Still useful.

Also have tea, coffee and sugar pots bought the same year. Both from Argos.

Bedside lamps - also 1998. Can you tell thats the year we moved in together

FissionChips · 04/11/2018 21:04

Indoor sparklers. I bought a pack of 10 with my pocket money from Hawkins catalogue , still have 3 left.

VenusClapTrap · 04/11/2018 21:06

My Mum’s electric hand mixer that was a wedding present in 1969. I still use it for all my baking, along with her recipe books. They are much simpler, more pragmatic, and solidly reliable than recipes in modern cookbooks.

SideOrderofChips · 04/11/2018 21:08

A bookcase and a cd radio alarm

MiddlingMum · 04/11/2018 21:08

Most things I own are more than 20 years old. I'm not one for changing things just to update them. Some of them include:
Virtually all our furniture, including sofa, armchairs, dining table etc.
Microwave
Oven
Fridge
Bed (but new mattress)
Sheets - my favourite ones are over 60 years old, but admittedly haven't been used continuously.
Food processor
Lawn mower plus lots of garden tools
Watch
Iron
Various saucepans, baking sheets, mixing bowls and utensils

Actually the oldest thing we use every day is a large stone to prop the back door open - it's about 6 million years old and shows no sign of wearing out Grin

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 04/11/2018 21:09

A full set of glasses that were given to my parents as wedding presents over 50 years ago. None broken yet....

Ditto steak knives and forks, various mixing bowls.

I have a couple of dresses that I have owned for over 30 years and weren’t new when I got them.

Not sure anything electric has survived though.

t00dle00 · 04/11/2018 21:14

I have an electric frying pan my mum gave me that was my grans. It's from the 60s and still going strong.

CartwheelCath · 04/11/2018 21:15

My Electrolux electric carving knife. It's been slicing our Sunday roasts since 1997.

Ducal furniture. Bought 1996. The 3 piece went to the tip last year but the dining furniture and bedroom furniture and coffee tables all remain in use.
A few bits gave been sanded down and re-upholstered and obviously the mattresses have been replaced.
MFI solid wood chest of drawers are still on use - painted now though.
Bread crock owned since 1994.
The first ever bed set i ever bought (2 lots of a tartan Debenhams duvet cover with pillow cases and matching flat sheet). O bought it in 1993.
Samsonite suitcase that was a gift in 1990.
Some enamel baking tins inherited from my grand mother. My dad (72) remembers them from his childhood.
Kid nursery tea towels still in use. My kids are late teens.

TooTrueToBeGood · 04/11/2018 21:23

Half my clothes are over 20 years old.
My mother has a Kenwood Chef and she uses it several times a month, every month. She got it in the early 60s.
Not quite as impressive as that because it has no moving parts but I still cook pancakes on a griddle that belonged to my gran - she got it as a wedding present so it dates back to the 1920s.

amusedbush · 04/11/2018 21:26

My gran’s ‘wireless’ has been playing in the same corner of her living room for as long as I can remember and I’m 28. To be honest it looks a lot older than that!

The threadbare old towel that I use to dry my hair was inherited (in the ‘gift’ sense... she’s still alive Grin) from her at least ten years ago, and god knows how long she had it for before I pilfered it!

Marmite27 · 04/11/2018 21:28

I have a craghoppers fleece, some bridgedale socks and some towels I bought off the market to take to uni so any naice ones wouldn’t get runined.

My mum commented the other day that the naice ones have long since gone in the bin, but my market towels still look new.

Marmite27 · 04/11/2018 21:29

Oh and a maglight pencil torch. Mines mostly camping equipment Grin

Longdistance · 04/11/2018 21:30

My Toyota sewing lacing is about 27 years old.

I have Ikea utensils. I got a set they was a small fish slice, serving spoon and fork in plastic. It cost me about 50p over 20 years ago. I still use them. I also still have my Ikea grater with box underneath which cost me pennies at the time. Come to think of it, my small chopping board is still alive and kicking.

DearPrudence · 04/11/2018 21:30

Magimix food processor (on its second bowl)
Dualit toaster - with several new heating elements
Smeg range cooker
Ironing board
Fridge freezer - on its last legs now
Metal mop bucket must be at least 30 years old
Carmen heated rollers

WobbleTime · 04/11/2018 21:31

A Dualit toaster (3 slice). Got it for a house warming present 19 yrs ago. It just keeps soldiering on!

nononsene · 04/11/2018 21:31

Our Sony alarm clock. It has a horrible alarm noise. We’ve been wishing it would die since the day we bought it. 21 years on and its still going!

Huntlybyelection · 04/11/2018 21:35

My dining table must be 30 years old. It used to be my parents' but I was given it when they bought a new table and chairs about 12 years ago. Chairs were replaced about 5 years ago as DH disliked them.

(Chairs were taken to charity shop and almost wrestled out our hands when they arrived.)

We also have a DVD player around 15 years old. Which doesn't seem that old to me.

deste · 04/11/2018 21:36

I’m still using my ironing board which was given as a wedding present from 1971. I also still have a full tea set that has never been out of the box, also a wedding present.

Powerless · 04/11/2018 21:37

Some cutlery of my Grandmother's from the 1800s which is used daily at my mum's house.
Lots and lots of glasses and recipe books from 1940s.
Hand whisk from 1960s.
I'm sure there's lots more but half asleep!
