A few of you may have had a DH/DP since then. Wink

Not me, quite. But it struck me last night that my favourite fluffy Christy bath towel is now 20 yrs old.

So is a watch I wear every day that my parents bought me.

A couple of baking trays too.

They've stood the test of time.

Can you tell me what I need to add to my indestructible domestic list?

Many thanks.

We inherited a beige (may have once been cream) 1970's Magimix by Robot Coupe from my DH's grandparents - it still works perfectly. I also have some Jaegar cashmere jumper's of my mums from the early/mid 80's.

powkin · 06/11/2018 11:01

@BonnieF I know EXACTLY the smell you mean! That took me back!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 06/11/2018 11:20

Forgot my nice, neat little Elna Lotus sewing machine, bought late 70s. Still going strong.

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 06/11/2018 11:24

How funny. My Kenwood makes that smell too. I absolutely love it; it’s the smell of birthdays!

Kitchen knife set – used daily, 21 years old and immaculate

Pair of M&S PJ bottoms – the top that went with them is long gone, but the bottoms are still going strong 16 years later

Dorothy Perkins boat neck red jumper – still gets many compliments when I wear it, in perfect condition, 17 years old

Ikea folding dining table – showing its age a bit now, but given sterling service (most recently as a desk) for 19 years

Braun stick blender – I keep waiting for it to die so I can treat myself to a Bamix, but it just keeps on going. I think it’s about 18 years old

Ceramic nightlight – it was mine when I was a little girl and now it is my daughter’s. I’m cheating a bit with this one, as I replaced the lampholder on safety grounds, but it’s almost 40 now.

Mixing bowl inherited from a Great Aunt – I’m not sure how old it is, but I’d guess well over 60.

Meyer saucepan set – I can’t remember exactly when I bought them, but they’re used daily, still in immaculate condition and at least 15 years old.

We've got one of my DIL wedding presents (married in the seventies), a big heavy pan with a huge dome lid, perfect for stews/casseroles, and my mums old white dish with yellow and brown flowers on the side that has a glass lid and its stand to put on the table (not sure how old this is, I assume from late 70s early 80s

Zoflorabore · 06/11/2018 13:22

I have an Oilily jumper that was my pride and joy in 1992 when I was 14 so that is 26 years old!

I have a bra that is almost 20 years old, it's so pretty I can't bare to part with it Blush

madmum5811 · 06/11/2018 13:36

My carmen rollers forty years old still used occasionally. Cookery books from engagement 1976. Wedding china and cutlery from that date. No bedding or towels though. A dress 30 years old, wear it for fancy dress 80`s dos now.

madmum5811 · 06/11/2018 13:37

oh MIL hostess trolley from 70s still going strong

MaMisled · 06/11/2018 13:43

26 yr ild bath towels, electric knife and a food blender. Kitchen devil knife I've used most days for over 30 years.

listsandbudgets · 06/11/2018 13:52

A dress I got second hand for a tenner when I was 18. 25 years later and its still going strong. One of those useful ones that seem to fit regardless of shape :)

DP has various musical instruments that he's had for decades.

I've got a knife that I was using the other day and realised I bought my first week at university so nearly 25 years (think its a kitchen devil and I'd be sad if I lost it)

I think my mother takes the prize as she still has and uses HER mothers kenwood mixer which was bought when dm was 7!! (she's 70 this year!)

Losingthechubrub · 06/11/2018 14:23

Whirlpool fridge and freezer that my parents bought in the mid 80s
Clairol Big Shot hairdryer, received as a Christmas present in 1992

They don't make them like that any more!

Satsumaeater · 06/11/2018 14:36

Microwave (huge and so a nuisance, but refuses to die so I can't buy a smaller new one!)

Hand blender

Not quite 20 years but a Candy mini tumble dryer which is about 16 years old

scaryteacher · 06/11/2018 14:44

I also have my gran's pastry board that my gramps made for her, and mum can remember it from the 40s. I have clothes older than ds (who is now 23) and that are still wearable, and I can still get into!

puppymouse · 06/11/2018 14:49

I have a big Winnie the Pooh hoody I wear when cold or sad. It was purchased at Disneyland in 1998. Doesn't even have a hole in it.

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 06/11/2018 14:51

@elastamum my dad still has his I ran the world t shirt. It looks like a dish rag now though haha

OlderThanAverageforMN · 06/11/2018 15:07

Pretty much everything we were given for our wedding 28 years ago!

Boxes and boxes of cut glass (anyone else??)
Cutlery set
Casserole and flan dishes
Towels
An asparagus cooker Hmm never used Grin
Tea towels, trays, utensils etc etc etc

A beautiful long Russian style Laura Ashley coat bought in 1991 with a small inheritance from my Dad when he died Sad Has a few small holes now, but can't bear to get rid.

NKFell · 06/11/2018 16:22

I have loads but I really just wanted to add....my Sony Cube!

AnneWiddecombesHandbag · 06/11/2018 22:10

Sony have really invested in their radio alarm clock division!

JaneJeffer · 06/11/2018 22:31

A pair of tweezers that are 23 yrs old I had a pair I bought in the late 80's, made in West Germany. A couple of years ago they disappeared. I asked DH who denied all knowledge then one day I found one half in the garage. He'd obviously used them to fix something and broken them. I'm still annoyed typing this now!

Sewrainbow · 06/11/2018 22:47

My hairdryer is 24 years old.

My casiotone keyboard must be over 30 years old.

My dh's hifi.

Sewrainbow · 06/11/2018 22:50

I can't part with my veg peeler that I had at uni in 1994. I have tried other peeler as it looks old and stained but none of them are a patch on mine and a few caused me injuries!

namastayinbed · 06/11/2018 22:58

An iPod speaker from 2004 - it has outlasted many devices and only the headphone jack is the right size to still be used and plug into the laptop.

BikeRunSki · 06/11/2018 23:40

I have a 20+ old Sony radio alarm, but it’s not a Cube.

namastayinbed · 07/11/2018 06:38

I miss my cube! Ex boyfriend kept it but I bet it's still going strong!
